    WHat was your framerate?

Last time I got 'lag-locked', my ping was perfectly fine to the server, and my FPS was 35. Something lagged server-side, because everyone in my party was QQing about it too. I think the boss we were killing QQed as well, but he died shortly after so we coudln't question him about it further.

Same here.. I usually get mid 100 - high 200 ping but now I'm getting 500-1k. It can't be my connection since I checked my speed via speedtest and am on 15mb/s dl.

Sure, you can have an internet connection of 50mb, a framerate no lower than 60, and still experience lag.

    Why?

Because there are many nodes that your connection goes through between you and the PWI servers.
Even with a decent ping, a router along the way could be dropping packets.

How to be sure, really sure.
Run a tracert to the PWE server that you are connecting to. (not to pwi.perfectworld.com)

Here's a list of the server addresses you should ping. (NOTE: because of anti-DNS attacks the pings will timeout at the first router after the ISP to PWE so the last two or three stops will never complete.)

    Server (Type) Coast Port :Address
    Archosaur (PvE) West 29000:pwiwest4.perfectworld.com
    Harshlands (PvP) East 29000:pwieast1.perfectworld.com
    Dreamweaver (PvE) East 29000:pwieast2.perfectworld.com
    Lost City (PvP) West 29000:pwigc3.perfectworld.com
    Sanctuary (PvE) West 29000:pwigc2.perfectworld.com
    Heavens Tear (PvE) West 29000:pwigc4.perfectworld.com
    Raging Tide (PvE) East 29000:pwieast3.perfectworld.com

Also, it can be processes running on your system that are causing the hangup. In my many years of providing support, It is more likely an issue on the side of the processors available threads, or an interconnecting router than it is anything to do with the Company's servers, or your internet connection. (With the exception of Wireless connections. They are very prone to interference.)

At the time I was in West arch. Ping was 397 FPS was 12 with all graphics turned up. My Ping is typically around 74, so this was rather high for me. Notice that there is a break at stop 13. That is an inter-connecting router between me and PWI that is causing the lag.

There's no way to say that stop 13 is causing the lag because you aren't getting a ping time from it. And you're probably not getting a ping time from it because the echo reply is turned off. If I had to guess, I'd say that stop 13 probably is PWI, and the echo reply is turned off to minimize server load.

Did you do this traceroute at about the same time that you checked the ping time in game?

Personally, I'm not too sure how accurate the in-game ping time calculation is, because there've been a few times that I've seen some pretty outrageous, and obviously false, ping times from it when it was my computer that was lagging.

I agree, I think the ping calculator in-game is a load of bs, just to try to get people to stop QQ'ing about PWE's fail servers.

What I don't show is that I am also using VisualRoute and it gets a lot more detail than a simple traceroute. It's showing me that there is a lot of packet loss occuring at that particular jumper. There's a major hub in Colorado, and a secondary hub in Texas, (that it goes through when Colorado is down). There's 4 routers there that are interconnecting several regions worth of traffic. When I'm getting heavy lag and run a visual trace, 90% of the time it's one of these hubs being overloaded.

It should also be noted that even though the path looks fine with tracert, there could be an issue with the return path of data.

The main point that I'm trying to make though, is that 99% of the time that you lag, the issue is NOT with PWE and NOT with your internet connection.
Rather it is something going on with the internet between the two.

So blaming PWE is dumb, and touting your super high speed internet connection is equally worthless. There are many points of failure between your game client and the server.

Heh... I was just going through my screenshots and I found one I took of it claiming 183 seconds lag time. No, not 183 milliseconds, 183 seconds. It actually said 18318 ms ("Laggy" LOL) and 0 FPS, soooo... yeah, not that accurate.

hi, actually it was just a lucky screenie as i was logging in at west auction house.

On most of the issue i'm agreeing with Tiageos, as the ping calculator itself seems to be lagging.

There are many moments daily where gameplay is fine but the calculator reads high ping & low FPS, i have never seen it the other way around.

It's quite apparent by reading the complaints about lag that everyone apparently forgets about the thousands of miles of wires that run between them and the game servers.

He's also posted good information on finding out if it's at your local ISP or somewhere farther down the line.

Tiageos pretty much hit the nail on the head... It's usually something in BETWEEN that PWI can't do much ABOUT..... or your pc is too outdated lol. And I'm not getting into specifics this time...

god are there really this many stupid people in the world...... search the forums before you post... I don't know how many times i've posted in threads whining about PWI's servers.. (although i could probably count the times on 2 hands). Renza and everyone else.... USE YOUR HEAD! If it was PWI's servers, don't you think EVERYONE would be having connection problems? I don't and no one i know does either......... christ I don't even lag in west Arch. Of course we all have good pc's with more then 2 GB of Ram.... hell i built mine... lol

I still think its better reconfiguring your server list to show ever single connection point
Omitted to reduce huge post and repetition.

But you're still only going to get what point has the least load at the exact time you're doing the ping. In 30 seconds it could be a different one. I'm sure that they use load balancing across the ports, which makes your list moot. (Your jpg image shows that as well. Hardly more than 5 milliseconds difference on any group of ports on one server.)

I have tried it before. There was no noticeable difference. You connection will still travel across all the router hops that are in between you and the PWI servers. Changing the port you hit on the server isn't going to change that.

Also while interesting, changing the files is a violation of ToS.

Someone else already figured out how to rip people off like that.

Sure, you can have an internet connection of 50mb, a framerate no lower than 60, and still experience lag.

    Why?

Because there are many nodes that your connection goes through between you and the PWI servers.
Even with a decent ping, a router along the way could be dropping packets.

How to be sure, really sure.
Run a tracert to the PWE server that you are connecting to. (not to pwi.perfectworld.com)

Here's a list of the server addresses you should ping. (NOTE: because of anti-DNS attacks the pings will timeout at the first router after the ISP to PWE so the last two or three stops will never complete.)

    Server (Type) Coast Port :Address
    Archosaur (PvE) West 29000:pwiwest4.perfectworld.com
    Harshlands (PvP) East 29000:pwieast1.perfectworld.com
    Dreamweaver (PvE) East 29000:pwieast2.perfectworld.com
    Lost City (PvP) West 29000:pwigc3.perfectworld.com
    Sanctuary (PvE) West 29000:pwigc2.perfectworld.com
    Heavens Tear (PvE) West 29000:pwigc4.perfectworld.com
    Raging Tide (PvE) East 29000:pwieast3.perfectworld.com

Also, it can be processes running on your system that are causing the hangup. In my many years of providing support, It is more likely an issue on the side of the processors available threads, or an interconnecting router than it is anything to do with the Company's servers, or your internet connection. (With the exception of Wireless connections. They are very prone to interference.)

I just wanted to bump this up. That is all.

Same here.. I usually get mid 100 - high 200 ping but now I'm getting 500-1k. It can't be my connection since I checked my speed via speedtest and am on 15mb/s dl.

I could live with 1k ping but mine is shotting up to 15k... out of no where.. I cant even do anything and I got a New computer a few days ago so I know it's not my computer it's PWI ( I live in America and Most of my friends have horrible horrible horrible ping and It's making me pissed b:angryb:angryb:angry ( and BTW it's mostly in FB's and BH's)
