A quick weapons question please

Levels 1-30 swords actually have the best dps before any stat modifiers on weapons. There is no special reason they handout axes/polearms in the early levels as quest rewards.

The skill you're refering to is Myriad Sword Stance. It's a two spark skill. It has the highest single hit damage, although I think HF may out dd it with the fire DoT. Demon Glacial Spike also will out DD if it procs and crits (50% chance to proc, combined with about a 20% base chance to crit=60% chance it will crit overall.) But rarely are our 2 spark skills used for a single hit worth of damage. HF is used for its curse effect that doubles all damage dealt for 6 seconds (9 seconds if demon). GS is used for additional debuffing/amping, especially if there are two BMs in the squad and you can rotate debuffs. MSS is used defensively for when aggro changes, a tank is about to die, or to buy time for a rez when the cleric won't be able to heal the tank. DBB is used to add fire damage to your attacks for 15 seconds, and sometimes used in duels against HA players.
The reason swords "suck" is because fist out dps them, and most their skills are also in the pole path, which out damage swords on skills. They don't thrive in any one area and you'll rarely use their 2 spark skill. If you want aoes axes will benefit you most. Squads benefit more from a bm using any of the other 3 paths.

There are a pair of Legendary claws called Sting of Thorns that are nice, but be prepared to pay upward of a mil for them. Also, fists are no better than any other weapon until you take spark usage and -int into account. You get your first spark at lvl 30 and your first -int is either a 250+ million coin tome or level 60 BoBM bracers (54 with very rare crafted bracers), so there is nothing extra special about fists till then.

I think the idea was since Sins/Psychics started over a year behind everyone else, they wanted to encrouage and somewhat make the game a little easier for Sins and Psychics to level in. Plus, when you need an axe there are hundreds crafted and floating around. There weren't many dagger molds or made floating around for a while. Plus, our FBs give us rep, spirit, and exp. Theirs don't.
