What character class should I make, I'm new.

Hey first of all I have always played balanced Jack-of-All-Trades type classes in every MMO I have ever played and am wondering what class I should pick in Perfect World. I prefer damage/versatility over endurance thus I slightly prefer shaman's over say... Warriors if you catch my drift, I have no preference on whether the class deals damage in melee or casting distance either by the way.
Anyways please help

I would recommend either blademasters (they have a variety of builds you may want to look into speccing, also great for a little crowd control in PVE instances), Archers (wonderful in PVE/PVP), Psychics or Assasins (also good DPS classes, Assasins being the best 1v1 in PVP play) from the "gist" I got from you there. b:chuckle
Hope this helps a bitI quit PW and all its games it had to cater to me. I'm off playing a better pay-to-play game where I experience no glitches, no spamming LF squads, lose stuff in PK mode, lose exp on death or anything for cheaper price than what I paid for here. However, I'll still be lurking around pwi forums from time to time. Quit Date: March 4, 2011 RIP my beloved characters. b:bye0 -
Due to a surfeit of these posts, I shall randomly designate you:
A WIZARD.

Jack-of-all-trade
Shaman > Warrior
Shaman - Human: Wizard (Pro: 3 elements and great for PvE (Arcane Armor) and PvP (Light Armor)
Side: This is currently out of date atm, may see more action when they implement aps nerf.
Warrior - Human: Blade Master (Pro: Wide arrangement of weapon, can tank more then Casters, one of easiest toons to level up when using the Axe Weapon Path)
Side: May obtain 5 aps making late game easier due to you may find squads in Nirvana. Will be reduced to 4aps in next expanstion.
aps = Attack per Second
Probably knew that thoFriends call me, "RaveR." My enemies call me, "..." b:bye

The true jack of all trades class in PW is the venomancer... able to cast and melee (though not the strongest caster or meleer), debuff and summon a battle pet (the last being the only unique feature of the class, at least until the new expansion comes out, and the mystic summon will operate differently than the venomancer pet.) Moreover, it's the only class that can make effective use of any of the three armor types.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I would definitely recommend a blademaster from what you said you was lookin for.
Ever since assassins and psychics came out no one really plays archers or wizards anymore. A assassin would probably suit you very well too.
A good way to tell is to go thru and play pretty much every class to like lvl 10 and see which one you like best. It sucks when you play for a few years and then wish you would've started a different class. Best to go ahead and take the time at first and see which one you like the best.
Good luck on your choice and welcome to Perfect World.0 -
I think that the venomancer class (which I should note is female only) has the greatest potential at jack-of-all-trades ability, though it won't excel at any area if you actually try it.
The venomancer can go either an arcane armor + magic route and do well, or a heavy armor + melee route and do OK, but trying to do both will likely come up mediocre unless you seriously pimp her out (with a high level tome and lots of gear bonuses). Venomancers have both magic skill trees and melee skill trees, and the venomancer "spark" skills are the only ones that boost both their own magic and melee skills. They're the only class well suited to two totally different styles of play, but again, I'd recommend focusing on only one path, rather than trying to do both.
Still, venomancers can also have a variety of pets, each with their own skills, so you could tame and train pets versus each of the five elemental weaknesses and give them various useful skills and debuffs for different party types. For example, I have a tank pet that has two magic skills and a magic defense debuff, that works great versus mobs/bosses weak to those two types of magic attacks and/or in squads with lots of magic users. I also have another pet that has a melee attack debuff and a channeling disrupting skill, which helps the tank take less damage and helps prevent some nasty boss AoE attacks. And I have yet another pet with a ranged attack and all sorts of physical attack skills, which often comes in handy versus bosses with strong melee attacks, but weak ranged attacks. The user/pet dynamic basically makes you a healer/tank all rolled into one as well.
So, that's why my vote goes to the venomancer for the most jack-of-all-trades class.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Is it sad that I forgot Venomancer? ._.
Yep can use any armor along with mostly any mob out there with the exception for boss type mobs.
You would be a traditional jack-of-all-trades but, a master of none. :P
Late PvP I would suggest getting a Nix.Venomancers/Clerics rock![SIGPIC]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs43/f/2009/110/1/5/Schrodinger_plz_by_McMonster_Ridgeback.gif[/SIGPIC]
