Alternative for banning some...

Ok, we have all seen players out there who are hell bent on being mischievous causing all kinds of havoc as they violate certain rules of the game. You know, those who lure World bosses into towns to cause mass slaughter, who scam, who cheat, who cause griefing, etc. (name your rule violation).

A lot of those people put a lot of time and effort into their toons and sometimes do such things either out of boredom, showing off, petty personal enrichment, or just personal entertainment. I think outright banning in many of these circumstances is just a tad extreme for being mischievous so I came up with an idea for an alternative to a ban:

Create a new instance called 'The Perfect World Jail.'

It can work like this. An offender busted for violating a rule is sentenced to serve a certain number of hours in this instance before being let back out into society. The instance I envison is similar to room 11 (Bored) of the cube but bigger and includes the colored balls of room 5 (count the apples) which has physical and elemental immunity.

When an offender is ported into the room the countdown timer doesn't start until s/he is off the spawn platform and into the main part of the room where those colored balls are slowly roaming about. If the player returns to the patform the countdown timer stops and for each second they are on the platform 2 seconds are added to their sentence. If the player gets within aggro range of the balls (like 4 meters or so) they get one shot and ports back to the spawning platform and has a penalty - 1 minute added to their sentence. The point of the balls is to prevent serving the sentence AFK by forcing the player to move about.

Make the room PK disabled to prevent griefing other inmates.

There could also be an NPC there that offers silly, very redundant quests like digging chests (takes 60 seconds to dig) and giving him a 'fractal stone' that reduces the sentence by 10 seconds or so. Make it boring yet give a benefit.

Other requirements could be that when a player is released from jail s/he must pay the elder of the nearest town a fine (amount based on the level of the character) within a certain amount of time or be forced to return to jail for half the time of their original sentence. Once they are released again they are free of any fines or jail until they get busted reoffending again.

The point of this is to grief the offender in an attempt to modify their bad behavior yet allowing them to keep their hard earned character.

For repeat offenders the sentences can be doubled or tripled. 4th offense can be a ban.

Only GMs can sentence offenders to jail. Complaints are made the same as they are now.. submitting a ticket with a screen shot of the offender committing the offense as evidence or a GM catching them in the act.

Some offenses I would still consider bannable such as hacking, trying to steal account info. etc. but those are beyond mischief though.

Just an idea..
I **** bigger than you...

Shut up and play the game.....Damn

    This sounds like that one room in the 51-60 set of Cube where you need to avoid the roaming balls. o.o;;

I like this idea :) Specially since its degrading and humiliating having to dig stupid chests for days b:chuckle.

Would be a hilarious punishment for people that keeps dragging bosses to Snowy Village for example. Instead of paying a fine in coins when you leave, you should also have to pay with hard earned exp.

Bans are never perma if you're moderate cashshopper+ anyway. Really only people that doesn't cash shop, really young, cant get through ticketing system since English sucks etc, that gets banned for ages. If you charged you zhen and know how to speak with a customer service in a polite and mature way, you often get account back pretty fast in my experience. But everyone should just go to jail, that's more fair and funny.

Ooooooor... They could just get banned for a month at a time, and we wouldn't have to put up with their ****.

Rules are rules. GM's will get tired of sending people to that room daily. I'd rather just see people banned. Permabans aren't very frequent, temp bans are the norm, from what I've seen.

Really a nice idea, this could work but we know that dews are too lazy to listen to any suggestion, not to mention complaints.

b:laugh Pretty cool idea. I didn't read well if your jail had many rooms. I would make special room in that jail where pk is enabled so you can go to pick a fight with other inmates, instead of doing quests to reduce your penalty.

b:sad Too bad GMs are useless when it comes to adding content to the game, and or passing suggestions.

That would defeat the purpose, that would be a fun jail time. >.>

I'm moving this to the Suggestion Box.

However, just remember that the ToS lists bannable offenses, and the player had to agree to those terms to begin to play. If they choose not to follow the rules, albeit out of boredom, there are consequences.

True. Rules are rules. I just don't feel that some rule violations are worth getting someone completely kicked out of the game when they are caught for the 1st time. I believe in giving them the opportunity to reform themselves in-game. I understand that some are just plain - well to be polite - incorrigible thus banning them after a few jail terms. But those who care about their character and the privilege of playing the game it serves as both a warning to modify their behavior and a punishment for engaging in nefarious behavior at the same time without getting booted from the game entirely.

Permabans are for those who can't control their bad behavior or those who try to commit fraud to steal and **** accounts.

What you don't seem to understand is that few people are perma-banned from PWI, and almost never on a first offense. I know people who have been temp-banned, send in an e-mail, and get their accounts working again within a couple days (non-cash shoppers, too). Perma-bans are pretty much exclusively reserved for repeat offenders and hackers, like you said.

Don't start assuming what happens in the background...it's almost never right.

Oh I understand that. And I'm not necessarily making assumptions on what goes on in the background either. The whole purpose of my idea was to introduce a graduated system of in game punishment for rule violators rather than just an outright ban even if the ban was temporary. Every idea has good points and bad points to them.

It was just a thought I had I wanted to share.

While I can say I agree with the idea of this being implemented. I know (through various tickets and live chats) that thing are never taken care of aptly. (ie certain players on lost city server making certain remarks which in real life would have you placed under suspicion of criminal intent) So I have a feeling that this great idea would simply be put to waste and it would be (just like alot of other things in this game anymore) corrupted.
