I created a faction 3 days ago, how do I get people to join, right now i'm the only member. A few people did join but left a couple seconds after joining.

Get some friends to join with you. When people see 2/2, they're like wtf *leaves*.

they left because the faction was empty. you need to explain when you are inviting people that you are just starting out. best bet is to invite people you squad with (who arent in a faction) some will stay if you are active, most won't as they will want to move onto bigger more powerful factions.

don't take it personally unless it is. these people are more interested in finding higher levels to do their bosses etc than in building something.

    ^^^^ What he said.

But also note that the time for making new factions in my opinion is over. There is already 9001 factions, do we really need more of them, especially when the amount of new players is so low?

yeah you need to start with a base group of friends for one
the key to building a smaller non-cs faction up to being larger, well functioning, and attractive - is to grow slow. help your members out for one, and help other people out a lot. idk what class you are, but as a faction leader if i answer a WC and the group i end up in is entirely made up of another faction, the first thing I generally say is "where is all of [their factions name here]'s barbs". Some times you get a foot in the door to prospective members that are feeling less than helped in their current faction that way. If you get that kind of feeling from them, drop a few hints here and there. They may not want to join right away because of their friends being in their current faction. But, if you keep playing with them you may win them over especially if you bring them into runs with your own faction mates. Who knows, they make come over to you and bring some friends too. I personally prefer to recruit in that manner rather than WC. My experience with WC recruitment is that people just put their alts in the faction and only rarely play, or else use the faction to level up their alt then leave for another faction (not cool in my book). Also, you run the high chance to get some real loonies in faction through WC recruitment.

Find your niche and build your faction around that. Your faction might be based on end game goals (a good basis for a faction IMO) or it may be based on something non game related - a music genre, favorite band, real life age ranges (Dreamweaver has an Oldies faction) etc.

Don't randomly invite people without even talking to them first. Most decent players hate that (I auto-deny anyone that does that). It's best to squad with people first and get to know them before you ask.

Frankly, if you're starting a faction all on your own it will be near impossible to succeed unless you spend 24/7 just focusing on that. If you're low level yourself, don't even bother. Nobody wants to join an empty faction led by someone who doesn't know anything about the game themselves yet. Join a good faction and learn about the game. Level up. Build a group of friends. If you're still set on starting your own faction after that, you can all start one together.

Theres no better way to **** people off than to randomly invite them.

Try talking to people. That "Invite to faction" button is not to be touched unless they say yes in text, or you are liable to make them go "**** you" and deny it and not listen to a word.

    ---

I make a specific point to join, tell them how annoying said recruiter is and then leave, if I have time to **** around.

Ive had a couple of said recruiters lose their title as a result. b:victory

Some of the replies here are right on the money.

Every server is now, more or less, well established and filled with countless factions. While this may add to the challenge, it by no means makes it impossible to start one for yourself.

Fuzzy suggests the best bet is to begin with a core group of friends that are also willing to put in the elbow grease to make it grow. It takes an unbelievable amount of effort to get the ball rolling, but making use of every and any available resource is the only thing to do. Buy some tele's and world chat to let people know you are recruiting. Talk to others every time you find yourself in a squad. Find other players whom you are able to help and go do something for them. It makes for good PR work when you help others with no benefit to yourself.

There is also a full section of the forum here dedicated to offering people a place to advertise for their factions.

Most of all however, and trust Fuzzy on this one, it takes perseverance. It can take months of thankless effort to build a foundation from which a faction can grow.

Those who suggest not sending out random invites are pretty much correct. This is more apt to insult players than peak their curiosity. Also, as you grow, don't be afraid to remove people from your faction who do not match with what you are looking for. In the panda's experience, to build a faction that will stand the test of time, you cannot compromise your faction's ideals simply to placate one or two members.

Anyway, at this point Fuzzy is rambling.....

Simply use every tool available to get your new faction's name out there and work hard to show that the members you do have, be it 10 or 200, are looking out for more than just themselves.

    *looks at profile*

You're level 21. Building and maintaining a faction is difficult. Most people want an active faction. Most people won't join a faction with a leader lower level then they are.

You need to make lots of friends. Make them officers. Make sure the officers put a considerable amount of time and effort into recruiting. Then, maybe, if you're really lucky, after a few months of hard work you may have 40-50 loyal and active players willing to stick around.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.
