Greetings all!
I'll be perfectly honest, I never was very knowledgeable about this game when I played in the first place, but I came back the other day so please excuse my newbie'isms.
I read up and kept reading about how the Glacial Walkers are the preferred land tank pet (minus Herc of course. I'm sloooowly working on him, many thousands of SoF to go =.( ). So, I'm slowly leveling him (Glacial Walker) up (Tamed him last night, got him to 35, got a ways to go). So he has roar, but I'm reading around and finding that Bash is much better at keeping aggro? So I assume it would be recommended to teach him this?
I duo with an archer, my husband. I had to spam the 3 abilities on my pet while clearing out a huge stash of oracles with him. If he blew his spark, I couldn't keep aggro off of him with the pet. Since it was oracles, I could only help with the pet or I may out DPS him and he won't get the oracle completed (Vice versa type of deal). Would bash help in these situations?

The Glacial Walker has Icicle, which is essentially the water damage version of Bash. Functionally, they are the same. I would upgrade Icicle, and definitely keep Roar. It's great in situations where you need to steal back aggro fast.0 -
Roar steals and resets aggro. It is great for situations where you need to grab aggro off someone else quickly, but not something you want to use to build aggro, because each time you cast it, aggro is reset. Bash is good for building and holding aggro, though not guaranteed to steal it like Roar will. It does however, deal damage (whereas Roar does not) so I'm not sure how it would work in a situation where you're trying to limit your damage.
As mentioned by another poster, the Walker comes with Icicle, which is the water version of Bash. The only real difference between them is that Bash will do a bit of extra damage if you're keeping Ironwood up.0 -
Aah I forgot to mention that during the clear outs, I was using a Magmite, I'm so sorry I forgot to mention that. But since you mentioned Icicle is like Bash, that makes me happy. I'll try it out after I get the Walker caught up.0

Bash doesn't just do more damage than the elemental skills when alongside Ironwood, it tends to do more damage in general, because, for some reason, mobs tend to have higher resistances than physical defense. I have both and the even though icicle is level two and bash is level one, the only time I notice icicle doing more than bash is against fire affinity mobs.
On that note, I definitely recommend getting bash on your walker in addition to the icicle skill it comes with. I really have to try in order to steal aggro from my walker when I'm using both in tandem, and I haven't bothered to level up either skill.0 -

i have two different bashes on my skatefish, and i find i really have to try to keep them both firing... between healing the pet, doing some damage of my own, and keeping an eye out for any surprises, i don't always have the time and attention to spare for tracking the cooldown of the other bash skill and firing it when it's ready.
but, yes, two bashes on most any pet makes for serious aggro buildup if you keep them working. level them up, though; i've kept my walker's icicle up to level, and it alone is enough to keep me from stealing aggro unless i spark or get an unusually high crit.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
You use both Walker and Magmite? Wow. I wonder how you manage?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Keke Zolanski in da Haus!0

One thing to consider, since you're saving for a herc, it might not be worth it for you to skill your walker too much. Upgrading Icicle would be good, since it would help keep aggro and also make killing quicker (quicker grinding = more money in same period of time = quicker saving towards gold buddha ^_^). If you want to add a fourth skill on the walker, it might be worth keeping an eye on the auction house... elemental bashes are easy to get for a fairly cheap price, and now and then you can find good deals on other skills too (I found howl for my wanderer for 50k, and recall reading of another veno finding bash for 50k).0

Well you see, my Magmite is actually quite behind level-wise. When my husband and I were going through a bunch of oracles I found in my bank and there was the aggro issues (Yes I understand some of this is due to the fact that my pets level is about 10 levels below me). So I read around to see if I want to continue with my Magmite or pick up a better pet. That's when I read up about the Glacial Walkers and decided to tame one and level it up, so the Magmite is just until the Walker is up to my level range.
If this was a bad idea, feel free to say something. As I mentioned originally, I'm quite noobish about this game. I try to read up, but it seems I'm always behind on what I should know.0 -

I will consider this, thank you. =.)0
