Hi everyone- unfortunately we have noticed a small spike in account phishing on PWI this week. This is a reminder that if you receive an in-game whisper or mail from someone, even a friend, to visit a website that asks for your Perfect World account name and password in exchange for "free gifts", DO NOT submit your info on that site.

If you have done so and you notice that your account has been banned, it has probably been locked for your own protection, so please submit a support ticket and we'll get you all cleared up as soon as possible.

    Thanks, I guess, but I kinda think if someone is dumb enough to fall for a piece of mail asking for their account name and password, especially one that spells "transactions" wrong, they aptly deserve what's coming to them.

    actually it's PWI... based in California... so if they can't even freaking spell ya.... you're an idiot falling for this. sucks though...

    The company's name is PWE - Perfect World Entertainment, the game title is PWI - Perfect World International.

    They also misspelled Our in that mail note. b:chuckle

    That's er, only somewhat correct. PWI's publisher is in California. PWI's development is in China -- it's all PWE. I'm not sure which atm would send out those kind of mails (disregarding the whole asking for account information thing), if at all. I just know that even if it were a GM or developer asking me for my account information, presuming authenticity, I'd still not give it to them in game. I'd call a support number or live chat.

    Wow um..... ya i know the difference between the companies, do you? PWE IS the china version, and where the updates come from. however this is PWI (basically the US version although u can play it anywhere). We've leased this version (or bought it idk the case now) FROM them. Official game updates still come from PWE... translated for us... but that's it. Far as THIS thread's concerned, PWI deals with the zen and accounts and boutique and w/e.

    Thanks for the warning. I hope Kaiser didnt get banned as a result, poor guy has been through enough already.

    um last i read on here 500000 times... PWE is based in china. and isnt' that what i just fracking said (the part where u said they distribute the game out)? We LEASE the game from them so..... and um PWI isnt' just the game name, it's the US BASED company. lol

    PWI is the game, PWE is the company. PWE is based in California. PWE is responsible for this version of PW. The game itself is developed in China by a company that, I think, goes under a different name (Wanmei?)

    PWE is the US based company, PW Beijing is the company's name in China - both distribute two different versions of the same game. No need to get all confused and mixed up with the two.

    PWE is Perfect World Entertainment, specifically the USA subsidiary that we call home. The Chinese company is technically "Wanmei Shikong" which translates roughly to "Perfect World".

    PWI is Perfect World International. This is specifically our version of the game.

    And thus concludes our lesson for the day ;)

    Wanmei Shikong is the name for the company in China, Wanmei Shijie is Perfect World CN (the game name in China)

    Does it realy mater which company is based where as far as why this thread was made ? .

    The important thing here is that no company be that game , bank or otherwise will ever ask you for your account login information.

    This is why you have things like question and secret answer or email and date of birth. All they need is to be able to verify you are the owner of the account.

    The only one who ever needs to know your login name and password is you and that applies to any online account. This also aplies to mobiles also.

    Reguardless of how authentic it may look if there asking for your account login information then its a scam.

    Also never give it over the phone they dont need it reguardless of what the problem is. Remeber these are just employees they could just as easily missuse that information, just as you should never let your CC/Debit card out of your sight even if they (shop or aotherwise) say theres a problem with it make sure it remains in sight at all times.

    Side note on this to the playerbase.

    DO NOT use Core Connect.

    You have been warned, ***** and moan if you like that im just stiring a rumor, but so far its the common denominator in multiple hackings on harshlands and everyone i know with a knowledge of computer stuff says its a mess and not to use it, im far from any good at that stuff but i trust their words. We have warnings to our guild members on our own site but everyone should be aware if its not being shut down. Maybe its a coincidence, maybe not, either way im not risking my account to add some friends to a list, if i want to do that il use FB or MSN.

    I know its been ticketed by the people who have been ****, some got their stuff back some have not or only got parts of it back. I dont have the figures but it must be about 15+ hackings in my faction alone in the last couple months. Maybe we have been targeted, maybe coincidence, or maybe the same thing has been happening to other factions.

    Take it or leave it, but dont cry to me if you loose your stuff just so you can see your kill count or have lots of names on a list.

    ....Why are you telling us about phishing NOW, when it's become a problem all of a sudden?
    You SHOULD have been telling people who lack the common sense gene this when they signed up for the game.

    A certain terribly graphic'd Free-to-Play Jagex MMORPG (*cough*) has a quest I think, which actually tells you how to prevent account theft. You know, for those ten year olds who haven't grown common sense yet? Pretty basic stuff? Get a neat little noob prize for it? Am I turning some gears in your pudding-filled developer brains?
