Hi there

so, upgrading my skills last night, and higher level faction member mentions he was talking to high level wizz who said you should really only choose one element path to use, as going with them all will cost way too much in SP.
I was like mmmk, yes, maxing everything is expensive SP wise ($$ ain't the issue), but i am pretty close to having everything i need maxed atm. Masteries are all at level 8 at the moment.
So I guess my question is, should I just have maxed 1 skill/mastery set first, before moving on and maxing the others later? I see this as gimping your power, what are your opinions on this?
Or was this guy just using secondhand information and making it sound like he knew what he was talking about?

Well you're right, it would gimp you if you only chose one path. You will need all three elements, and the coin/sp is WELL worth learning all your skills. So ya, whoever was telling you to go down one path is ****.

ya whoever told you that was wrong in my opinion. im a pretty low level and I havent maxed any of them yet, but ive been working on water and fire especially just because of all the gush and pyro i use. but maxing only 1 makes little sense to me, just because this game isnt really built for only using one element path like some are. to maximize dame (in my opinion of course) level the two elements you use most

Believe me, at lv 80+ sp will be the last of your worries and I'll tell u why: at lv 83 I had 9M sp simply because I had no money to upgrade skills, but then I started to get craploads of money by selling insignias, merchanting and from the Archosaur assaults to the point I had enough to max all masteries and many skills at lv 86, but I started to worry because sage was coming close and each skill costs 1M+ sp, but when you need such large ammounts of exp to level you also start to accumulate lots of sp; I was down to 1.5M sp when I hit lv 88, now I'm at 50% and I have 5M sp, at this rate I'll have 8M~ when I hit 89 and money will be my biggest concern again (1M+ coin per sage skill + books b:surrender)

VERY early on? I am less offended by the suggestion if its something you want to do. But generally speaking, its pretty dumb.

when i was 7x, I was one shotting barbs with sandstorm b:pleased

granted, when I was 7x it was pre-packs and having flawless shards in your gear made you a cash shopper

Paper beats Rock. Scissors beats Paper. Scissors also happens to beat Rock...until Rock gets 50k+ soulforce at which point Rock becomes an unstoppable killing machine that beats Paper... and would beat Scissors but it can't find Scissors, because Scissors are invisible.

Nobody refines their armor at that level, except for weapon. Unless they are a mega cash shopper.

when I level a mage I never have sp problems because I know what I need to level, I know what I should level later, and I know when to level certain things first.

    pyrogram - maxed to level
    gush - maxed to level
rock fall - got one level, leveled after I finished pyrogram/gush
stone barrier - maxed to level
crown of flame - got one level to kill mobs/players with 1/10 hp left
distance shrink - maxed to level
will of the phoenix - got one level, leveled after I finished other things
force of will - maxed to level
morning dew - got 5 levels because clerics in lost city use to be terrible and thought full-atk was pr0

passives - maxed fire to level, water came second so usually maxed the level after. after I maxed rock fall, I began leveling my earth passive.

got 5 levels of wellspring quaff for sutra

didn't level any of my 59 skills until 8x. started with blazing tempest, mountain seize, then black ice dragon. around the time i maxed mountain seize, i maxed my earth passive.

at 90 i maxed all skills available to 10, including a handful of 89 skills(3 basic attacks, hailstorm, pitfall and stone barrier)

at 101 i have all skills dark, all 3 79 skills, both 100, a level 101 genie and still over 30 million sp to waste experimenting on the skills. b:bye

Because I kept dumping exp in genies, I had ALL of my skills maxed at lvl75, with the exception of those who couldn't be maxed (lvl49+ skills), but they were on level. Maxed everything by lvl86.

in my opinion sandstorm is a nice nuke and deals good dmg on the lvl you can learn it so its way better than divine pyro or glacial snare if you ask me. If a player has lvl 10 stonerain as well the earth mastery can be the right choice. So instead of recommending to pump a mastery first i would say a wiz should max the mastery of that element first that is used the most. So if you frequently pyro and divine pyro wop --> fire mastery if you love stone rain and SS -->earth mastery. It would also be a wise decision to max the corresponding ulti to the lvled mastery as well if you are on a budget

I assume you're talking about grinding right? Because on any instances (TT, bh) you are going to use Gush->Pyro 90% of the time for DPS.

But even for grinding, you only use a heavy nuke at the start, then 2-3 gush and pyro... which one benefits your damage and killing potential most? I'd say water and fire, regardless of nuke, simply because of the Gush and Pyrogram that you spam 90% of the time.

Divine Pyro is by far the worst nuke, I agree (even though it's good on metal mobs), but Glacial Snare is good opener due to its slow... but sort of unreliable and short at those levels.

That said, there's maybe 30+ levels where maxed pyro for your level beats maxed sandstorm (20 levels before you get sandstorm, then 10+ levels to catch up) in damage, while also having a longer range, so depends on how much you feel it's worth having a stronger opener for those levels, vs saving a bit of spirit
