Clarification

Hello pwi community,

Just wanted to clarify if such things are true while merchanting in pwi.

1. You shall not put your shop near another selling same thingy.
2. You shall not set lower price than neighbour's shop.
3. You shall incur harsh language if you break rule 1.
4. You shall get yourself covered with neighbour's alt's mount, if you break above rules.
5. You shall get reminded of rules from neighbour's faction mate.
6. You shall be made to follow the rules or be subjected to rule 4.
7. You shall be regularly visited by neighbour's friends and alt to check if you are following rules.

The subject here is somewhat similar to my first post in forums. The form of bullying is the same. In this case, they had their main do it.

I'd like to ask, what a completely random person is saying to me in this pic -
-removed-
Another random person kindly explaining to me my faults -
-remove-

I don't want to send another ticket since it'll make my first one go to the back of the line. I'll link this thread to previous one.

ps sorry shelly b:surrender b:sad

    This is complete rubbish.

Competition is part of merchanting, if you can't keep up with the competition you shouldn't be merchanting.

I don't believe those are the "rules" You can put your shop anywhere you like and set prices for whatever price you want. Kmart can't tell Walmart how much to sell socks for. If Walmart wants to sell out, then they set their prices lower.

Even if a mount is sitting on your shop, I believe that if you hold shift while you click it would still open the shop. If someone keeps harassing you take screen shots and send a ticket.

Good luck and have fun :)

The shift key is for NPC's. For players it would be either Ctrl or Alt. Idr which it said xD

Hehehe... Ah yes... I know those "rules" all too well. b:chuckle

I've faced the exact same "rules" as you, as has my (evil) girlfriend. Sometimes it's just one person, other times it's groups. Sometimes the threats are vague, other times they are specific. Sometimes the complainer gives up in frustration quickly, other times it can drag on hilariously for days.

But in the end merchanting is a free-for-all, and those who use bully tactics are flat out losers who can't compete with those of us who are making the big profits.

I say that because in every single case where somebody has tried to bully me or my girlfriend in a market they've either lost, or we else found a better market and left them with the wimpy one.

My advice is to get as many laughs out of the whole thing as you can and don't feel even the slightest bit apologetic for giving your customers a better deal than your competition. Frankly, the only real danger you should even consider is that you might get emotional about wanting to beat the bully, and thus be tempted to try to fight for something that's actually not that valuable.

    - EDIT -

Actually, I should elaborate on not getting emotional, because it's pretty important.

Let's say you set up your shop and 5 minutes later somebody has parked their Nein Beast on it. You move, they move. Clearly they're just blocking you from selling, which is a problem because the spot you've chosen is usually the best spot for the item you're selling.

    What do you do?

If you get emotional, you're hooped, because what can you do to stop them? Nothing. You'll just get frustrated and angry and that's exactly what they're trying to accomplish.

So instead, laugh it off and try something else. For example, try a game of merchant "peek-a-boo!". Instead of setting up in the same spot, start setting up in less-than-optimal spots you're curious about trying. You'll gain knowledge about whether or not those spots are as good/bad as you think, while simultaneously forcing your competitor to spend time hunting for you.

Often times you can find magical spots that somehow manage to attract customers and avoid the notice of competitors. For example, on Lost City I found a spot that allowed me to siphon the majority of Tiger Packs sales without any of the usual Pack-cabal noticing, and thus I had the lowest prices without their knowledge. It took them 2 days to notice.

Another tactic is to see if you can entice them into a bidding war. The goal is to let them have the lowest price, but so low that they sell out far quicker than they can re-stock. Once they sell out, you sell at the price you wanted. If you time things right you end up making far more money than your competitor does.

One time I had a competitor who would set up right on top of me, under-cutting me by 1 coin. They would check back every 10 minutes or so and find me, then do it again.

So I moved to a much less effective spot and slashed my prices. They followed and again under-cut me by 1 coin. I slashed my prices again, and they immediately followed. I tried to make it look like I was annoyed and really trying to get away, but in fact I wasn't, because this was after Packs had left the cash-shop and I had already sold about half of mine and was looking for something to invest in. I was baiting him, and he was too busy emotionally getting a kick out of "harassing" me to notice.

Anyway, I put my prices to at-cost and waited. He under-cut me by 1 coin, and I bought him out, then immediately moved back to my original location and set-up at my original prices. I never saw him again.

competition is part of merchanting +1

also, covering the other shop with your mount, sending guildies to have a chat would be, irl, very mob like gesture, it would be like hiring mafia goons to bash the other shop cuz they have lower prices than you.. which is illegal, immoral and not very smart.

wait, so now you're telling me, that if I wanna buy mats, I'll have to run all over the place just to compare prices? instead of going to the wine merchant? where all the mats are being sold?
or if I want to buy fash, I can't just go to the corner anymore oposite of the banker?
or if I want to buy tokens, I can't just go to the banker/all those other npc's there to look for the cheapest tokens?

b:bye ur giving 1 the merchants a hard time like that and 2 ur giving the buyers a hard time.
If I want to buy mats, I don't wanna run all over the place just to look where the hell all the matt-sellers are.

If you want to merchant you'll have to deal with people who want to sell the same. Deal with it b:bye

Yeah rule one was stupid and not very well thought out, OP just want's the game his way so he can profit. Having similar items in the same location makes them easier to find should someone decide they need it(like a grocery store). Unless of course you want to sell TT mat's at north bank instead of at the Forges.

uum, considering the next posts and this...
it's not the OP that suggests/wants those rules..
he is just asking if those are considered rules by the community...

Oh well, then I don't think so. Most people that I know just set up shop to sell, not have equality and kindness around fellow sellers. You'd want whomever comes up to you to buy your stuff and not some other persons you don't know so you get the coins and not them.

I'm laugh about some people who selling packs. They really think that 1k less price will help. Few same "clever" people crush prices, as result they all getting less profit with same speed of sale.

Why these rules? I don't understand the whole meaning of wanting to have these!

I think the only ''unfair'' thing is blocking someone from clicking on your shop by being on his head.

There's only one thing that bugs me and that is another catshop setting their shop right on top on mine so people can't click my shop. Had that happened to me when I was selling nix/sofs and one of the catshop told me that it was his spot and I should move. I didn't so he started doing everything he could to harass me. I originally only planned to stay there until my SoF/Nix feathers sold out but I decided to stay longer just to **** him off and started buying/selling sof/nix like he was doing. He gave up on harassing me and I moved back to my usual spot. b:pleased

Set up your cat shop at your own risk! b:shocked

You are not required to sell, nor are people required to buy. Anyone can sell/buy wherever they want so If you don't like where you are move somewhere else or wait if they do.

Or you can put your items to sell in the Auction House.

Thanks for the comments guys. Some very useful advice there. Thanks to warren too, as I got into merchanting because of you.

Since I do not clarify enough on my post, few people are bound to be confused. For the record, those steps were what happened to me in chronological order. I do not mind in the least if you sell lower than me near my shop, just as long as you don't block my shop. Keep following me around for the sole purpose of making my shop unclickable. Although I am lenient towards harsh language as long as you are aware that I am not a minor.

A ticket has been sent and hoping Michael_Dark's dire premonition in my previous thread proves false.
