Ok so i have a lvl 20 tideborn Phsychic (yes i am a noob, thank you, u dont need to tell me), and i also have a lvl 14 human blademaster. today i found myself torn between two weapons that my blademaster can use. one was an axe, one was a pole weapon. i then realized that tideborns never have to deal with this because we only have a small handfull of weapons. Other mage classes can use Wands OR magic swords, whereas we can only use soulspheres. i think that if tideborns are limited to weapons specific to their race, they ought to have more then what they do. i think we should have to choose between faster attacks, or stronger attacks, like with my blademaster as previously mentioned. just a thought.

all magical classes except psy can choose between wand pataka magicsword and glaive but in practice some of the weapons are prefered by some classes for various reasons so in general the sideeffects of the weapons support the different class builds so wizards tend to use magic swords clerics prefer glaives and venos are in favour of patakas. So it is true that for some reasons a player can decide to switch to another weapontype supporting the personal build. On the other hand the psychics soulspheres are well suited to the class so the lower variety of weapons is no real disadvantage here because they contain the sideeffects you might want anyway. While magic weapons only differ in terms of dmg range ( wide range vs small range and high cap low cap dmg ) physical weapons work somehow different.

There are some differences you should be aware of:

    1) there are no requirements for magic weapons that force you to use a specific weapon to be able to perform a skill a cleric can execute for instance plumshot with a glaive or with a wand as well ( even if some skills require you to have ANY type of magical weapon equipped to be able to be used )

    2) all magical weapons have the same attack speed because casting refers to channeling time cast time and cooldown time of the classes skills and not to attack rate of the weapon whereas physical weapons do attack rates are different. Normally you can either pick weapons with higher dmg/lower attack rate like swords, poles, or weapons with faster attack rate but lower dmg per hit ( DPH) like fist

    3) all weapons have statpoint requirements and lvl requirements to be able to be worn by the player magic weapons require mag physical weapons str and dex

    4) some physical classes skills require specific weapons to be used to perform skills of the class for instance Heaven's Flame requires Axes Archer needs either Bow/Slingshot/Crossbow to be able to use skills sins only when they wear daggers

    5) -interval gear influences the attack rate of a physical weapon directly - chan gear reduces only the channeling time fo a players skill

Having said all that i hope you got an idea of how weapons in pwi work. For more detailled information check the sticky guide in the BM Forum there you'll find all the possible weaponpath builds. Also always keep in mind that there are always different daggers / soulforces of the same lvl with different sidestats if you consider there are Molds TT Lunar ....

well thats all well and good for the psychics but a friend of mine who plays agrees with the whole tideborn weapon thing but he has an assassin. he thinks they ought to be able to weild whatever weapon they want to while still being able to do their skills like every other meelee class
