consequences for failing to refine

i know mostly what happens when you fail to refine a piece of equipment. the first time a tried to refine some thing, i failed. it also took away the blue text bonus.
so can some pro plz tell me what does it do to the bonus when you fail? there are item addons, like + Str or Dex. what about the unique addons like Sacrificial Strike.

    The only thing refining does it +1, +2, +3, and so on (until +12), in which for weapons, it'll increase the attack; for armors, it'll increase the +HP and for ornaments it will increase +def, depending on which ornament you're using (someone correct me if I'm wrong lol). If you fail a refine it'll reset it to +0. It won't remove any of the other stat addons though, like the +str, +dex, etc.
