I have all magic classes but no melees yet lol, I'd like to start one that can be female (because I am female). (: BM or Sin, help me decide!

- I am not interested in PVP at all.
- I only PVE and do lots of instance runs (BHs, FCC, etc).
- I like to be useful in squads, help lower lvl friends and want to be able to solo grind / quest well (non-instance).
- I like to survive most things.
- I don't like wasting too much money on hp/mp food (got used to veno). :x
- I'm a middleclass player: not too poor but not too rich either, I can afford TT stuff, some legendaries and mid shards / refines but no epic stuff like +12, citrine gems or 5aps.

Which class suits me better?

Thanks all. =D

Considering the given criteria you have provided, I would suggest you look into building a BM. (In my personal opinion, sins may cost more if you want a non-squishy build and they are not as good of tanks as BMs, in regards to an all-around tank + AOE + buff skills).

-BM's are useful as tanks, or melee DD depending on how you build and/or use it in instances. BM stuns and HF (Heaven's Flame) are especially useful in FF.
-Usefulness: BM's have buffs, and can be played as tanks so soloing instances (ie. FB) at higher levels is definitely possible. Also, BM's IMHO are one of, if not the best solo-grinders, as they can round up multiple mobs in an area and use their AOE stun + HF and kill mobs in less time than most other classes.
-Again, given a decent build, BM's have reasonably higher HP and def (HA armor) than most other DD classes - so survivability should not be of much issue.
-Aside from repairs (provided if you tanked), I dont think BM costs would be too high regarding HP/MP items.
-Since you will not be PVPing, I assume you will not be TWing either; given that presumption, you probably will not have to invest in GX/deicides/interval gear and other high level equipment - so you should be in good standing, monetary wise.

Disclaimer: The above information was from my own personal observations; I havent played a BM, but I have squaded with several friends who do play BM and I have learned a lot from playing with them.

Happy leveling which ever class you do end up choosing.

    Cheers!

I also started on magic classes--clerics, venos, and wizzies--but I have at least one alt in every class.

Sin and BMs can both be tankers and can both be DDers, but Sins can also be quite squishy. BMs, meanwhile, are the most versatile class build-wise in the game, excepting perhaps Venomancer. There are lots of ways to build a BM... be she a 5-aps fist fiend, or an aoe-awesome axe tank, or a dexterous light-armor swordswoman. I restated my BM 3 times before I settled on a vit-heavy axe build. b:chuckle

As a cleric, I find that while Sins and BMs are both good to have in squad, I definitely prefer BMs for my daily bhes. They're awesome secondary tanks, have good group buffs, and can take a couple hits if they steal aggro (meanwhile, I often feel like I'm babysitting Sins, having to switch to them immediately if they steal lest they be 3-shotted)

So since survival is one of your prereqs, I'd definitely try the BM first. I have both, and my BM is twice the level of my Sin, so that tells you which I prefer. b:chuckle

Then again, you could always roll up one of each. You may be pleasantly surprised about some aspect of Sin (like stealth... lots of fun!) that you didn't anticipate. b:pleased

Great replies! Sins are kinda squishy, you would be chugging pots non-stop. They can kill things fast, but they take a beating doing it. Light armor + Melee = squish! BMs can wear heavy armor and have alot of versatility.
My fav melee is barb. I love having lots of hp and can fight about anything (outside of instances or world bosses) without worrying about dying.
You might consider Veno too. The magic weapons mostly have a 1.25 attack rate, they can wear light armor and they get awesome bonuses while in fox form. Plus you have a pet helping you. Veno make great melee characters.

Thank you everyone, I'll make a BM. ^^ I had one (3str 2dex) but deleted it around lvl18, she died too many times (I'm not used to melee). x.x Now I am prepared with life powders, low lvls will be easy! I wanted to make a LA fox-only Veno, but staring at my fox form for a long time would become boring... b:surrender

Please don't make a 5 APS BM, they are about as squishy as Sin's, Axe BM for stun, tanky build and aoe grinding. ^_^

I won't, because I can't afford it, lol. Even if I was rich, I wouldn't pay that much... I prefer axes anyways, girls look so kick@ss with huge, heavy weapons! b:chuckle I want to do all-weapon build for the fun, but definitely not 5aps.

    BM.

Since you stated you don't want to PvP, then a sin will be basically worthless since they were basically designed for PvP.
You said you wanted to PVE like crazy, then a sin again is basically worthless. Sins are a LA melee class, which as stupid as it may sound is true. BM's use heavy armor. In comparsion to each other the BM wins thanks to its incredible survivability and power.
Useful in squad would be a BM, who can sub-tank, give a awesome +pdef buff that basically everybody loves (especially the weaker clerics...).

Survivability? Shot the sin in the foot and he'll disappear into thin air to cry about it. Shoot a BM in the foot and he'll look at it, laugh, and proceed to beat the living **** outta you.

Along with that, with a BM can run into a crowd of mobs. And come out with 1 hp and all the mobs dead b:victory. (Done this before)

Overall I would suggest a BM. Either axe/sword path which will give you a great amount of HP to work with (at lvl 60 I had somewhere close to 9k hp fully buffed up, and 6-7k unbuffed. But at that time I was sword/pole/axe. So I had a ton of vit for my lvl)

    @Bold: I find that offensive!!!

BM's, even in 5 aps builds, are no-where near as squishy as a 5 aps sin >:(

Seriously, any BM who does the 5 aps build will easily tell you have much easier it is to deal with the mob than it is when doing it as a sin.
Truthfully i've tanked who instances and I have under 5k hp right now because both my head and arm piece have been sold to make coin. so meh :P
