I'm really interested in this class..i really like it. I'm willing to do my quests and grind for coins even though they quest really slow and even though the repairs are stupid expensive. But is it true if you don't cash shop 4 your barb it makes no sense having one at all? Especially since 5aps fists are available. It's like barbs aren't tanks at all. I'm starting to think I should just stick to my wiz and find a "specific" group of people to quest with since wizzes have a hard time getting squads later on.

PS: yes you are right barbs are a pain due to repair bills0 -
It depends entirely upon your objectives and how you get your enjoyment from the game. I play a barb more than any other character, I enjoy the way it is more than any other class. I don't level fast but I play the way I like to and I find I get on with out any problems. Curiously, I found that some quests were faster on a barb than other classes. For the record, the only cash shopping I have done was for inventory/storage stones and a bit of left over on charms.
At the current time, I can still take my barb on missions, undertaking the traditional role. Later on, as things stand (c.lvl 70), it will likely be different so methods of developing the character further may well need to be sought but that's not an issue right now.
Sure, barbs require dedication but there is still plenty of satisfaction to be had. Not using the CS doesn't mean you or anyone should forget about being a barb.0 -
Barbs are hard. There has been several times then I wanted to quit. But then again..
I rarely use ride pet since my speed without archer buff is 9.8 m/s (aldo I do have 11 m/s ride pet and fly pet 3m/s - bought them with coins) I do a lot of one-man army and that gives rep and coins to pay may repair and save some.
Yes it takes time but barbs are a class that needs patient.
Also I have lot of friend who invites me to join TT's fb's bh's etc.
One of my friends got me a Super Inventory stones so I could start gathering herbs and mats 2-5 lvls. In Arc you should go check wich herbs and mats are most popular that cats buy. Then you can sell your's time to time.
And when I go to BH usually I make wine from mats my self and can ask wine fee and keep ti for my self.
I rarely buy pots, just those that drops from mobs or make some in apothecary. So this skill is important enough.
When you go to TT try to find a sqad that goes for mats. So after this is over you share mats and everyone can do what ever they want with those.
That's how I got my TT green armor from 70-90 lvls. Just made it my self (for that you need tailor and bladmaster skills).
Don't just sell to NPC mats like fur, skin, leather, grees etc. If you really don't want them sell on auction or to cats. Make more money with that.
Also DQ mats - Dragon Quest, if you don't do it your self then find cat's that needs those drops, can get more money from that to.
It is slow, but if you're patient enough and have time you'll get what you want.0 -
I think the people who say you need to cash shop to play a barb are the same people who level with oracles and BHs and never grind and quest. Regular Legendary gear thats kept up to your level, flawless sharded, and refined +2 is fine until end game.
The bigger cash sink with barbs is actually the skills. They can become very expensive per skills (lvl 10 skills sometimes costing around a million coin each) and you have two paths to level, tiger and human. Your performance is often based on having your skills maxed. Other classes you can procrastinate a little more on when you level your skills.
However, with a little grinding and questing and if you avoid power-eveling its no problem. Occasionally I skipped a days BHs to go make sure I had the coin for my current skills before I leveled my barb. Its a little bit harder to keep the cash coming in, though, because of repairs.Seven 100+ characters leveled the hard way. Free to play. Mystic, Psychic, and Wizard left to level. b:victory0 -
If you have determination, self discipline, and motivation you'll be fine. Things will take you longer than people that do cash shop, but you'll feel rewarded when you have it.
Most of all: If people call you fail, or don't want to play with you because your gear isn't greatest or you don't use charms (**** them) keep in mind there are many people that don't and will be more than willing to use you as a tank. It's a game and I'm proud to be a stupid fail demon barb!

My barb just hit 60 last night
I'm loving him as an escape character.
Skills for any class are an issue in the beginning. Mostly for me due to low SP.
I started building him with intentions of tanking, and made him before this insane APS craze, and I don't know if I will ever put fists/claws on him. Besides, axes are sexier anyway. b:pleased9x Veno - Liebe

Well said Steel. There are a great deal of barbs out there that have learned their class, learned their limitations and do a pretty darned good job without cash shopping. Play your class and learn it well. Learn how to play properly within a squad, which generally means communicating and learning the weaknesses and tendencies of your squad mates.
Yes it's an expensive class, but with the right cast of supporting squad members, it's probably the most fun class to play.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Barbs are still fun to play. You don't have to worry about competing with 5aps people for a very long time. You can restat to become a fist barb when you get to 100 or whatever. If you're lvl 6 now, i'm sure that's a long time off. In the mean time, enjoy playing.
My barb, DarthPuggy, is just upgrading his tiger skills only. I'm not upgrading any of his human form skills at all. The endgame dex require for barb is around 60. I have his around 50 right now (lvl 60) and i bought tons of +dex gear. Sometimes I'll get bored and mess around with claw/fist. My point is: it's probably less expensive to just upgrade tiger skills instead of both. You need the tiger skills to tank properly.0 -

The good thing about being a barb, is your ALWAYS wanted in an instance. No matter the instance. For the end-game ones such as 3-3/Nirvana, if your a competent barb and are able to tank "if" needed, willing to make the squads, take that extra step by banking if needed and being leader of the squad, or running chests on the last boss of Nirvana - people are going to love you. Everyone loves a competent barb that will buff on sight as a party member is rezed, and knows their class.
That being sad, being a barb is hard work. It's your job to hold aggro when your in a squad w/ non -int users, unless a veno is tanking. It's your job to debuff when needed, as well as you have to be willing to run into a boss/group of mobs and not worry if you die. A barb in my opinion is the leader of the squad, while the cleric is the player that keeps everyone alive. The DDs are the assistants to make it go by quicker.0
