Here's a nice little request that doesn't have anything to do with TT/TW/DQ/etc., for once. I realize I might be jumping the gun a little bit here, but I thought I should give them ample time to consider it...

GMs and other various staff: Please enable the "snowmen event" for most/all of December. If possible, include all the "card" functionality from 2008 along with it.



For the unaware / the newbies: "the snowmen" are harmless mobs that would appear in the major cities (Etherblade, Lost, Plume and Arch). They each died in one hit and dropped useful items... primarily chi stones (Wuhsing Stone being the most common) but also Celestones (including Mirages), Dice Tickets and "cards" which could be turned in for various rewards. They were immune to elemental damage, but any character could equip a lv1 bow to take them down easily.

In 2008, the snowmen appeared for most of December. There was also a quest which would give you a "snowball launcher" (a free all-class Slingshot weapon complete with "snowball" ammo) which aided in the snowman killing. Finally, there were various "xmas cards" which could be traded between players and exchanged for various rewards, including money items, apothecary powders, charms, mysterious chips, and more... the highest prize being a Christmas Tome (+1% crit) if you had all the cards.

The event was not perfect. Some complained that the snowmen caused lag. Others were annoyed that material spawns would give out "chocolate ingredients" instead of actual mats (the chocolate ingredients were used to make various buffing items). Personally, I remember making a thread expressing disappointment that the number of Mirage Celestones dropped devalued them - but that was back when you could sell Mirages to other players for 30k each. XD Ah, those were the days.

Basically, while not perfect, this was a fun and charming little event that anyone could take part in and benefit from... without needing to spend money, without needing to farm super-gear or get lucky with packs. If we were to see it again, I would consider it a beautiful rarity.

Last year (2009), the snowmen barely appeared at all. Throughout most of December they were gone. At one point (shortly before Christmas IIRC) a GM finally turned them on, but they only stayed for about two days. As far as I know none of the other event functionality (the cards, the snowball launcher, the chocolates etc.) were enabled. It was, at best, an afterthought.

So I'm making this thread in hopes that the PWI team will repeat the events of 2008, not 2009. I'm sure not everyone likes the idea, but I know that I'm also not the only one who wants the snowmen back. I mean, come on... FREE CHI STONES. They're a lot more relevant now that we have genies, too (we didn't have them in 2008).

    From what I understand the christmas event was broken, and they acidentally triggered it somehow.

    Kinda like sometimes how a teleporter will get boxed in because of the old races they had before PWI existed.

    They also didn't bring back the Valentine's Day event this year. I think they're pretty much done with stuff like that.

    Yes! I was here for last years and really enjoyed it! I didn't see the year before so was pretty happy with last years and am hoping for them to come back!

    I say yes to snowmen (2008) as well, Back in '08 I was too new to the game to really understand the value of the event so I didn't make proper use of it, having it again would be really fun.

    Snowman '08 was probably the best event PWI has had.
    I liked valentines '09 and chinese new year '09 as well.

    At least now we have more weekly events like Tiger, CoA, Jungle Ruins, and Tourney.

    Maybe the Arch invasion should be semi regular as well.

    The snowman events were pretty fun. They also dropped a lot of chi stones. The snow in Archosaur was pretty nice too. I agree, bring the snowmen back please. b:cute

    The Valentine's event was a miserable failure, though (to say nothing of the Duke Rose exploit accompanying it).

    Also I find it hard to believe it was an accident when the GM proudly sent out a chatstring saying something to the effect of "Merry Christmas everyo- OSHT SNOWMEN". I have a screenshot of this somewhere if you want it. XD

    I would support this. :P Even if I did chicken out about an hour in when they started **** my charm. XD

    As I said above, Valentine's was pretty fail IMO (couldn't get to the roses, etc.). New Years' was okay though.

    Most of the weekly events are too competitive for my tastes. The only regular event I ever do anymore is the race, and occasionally Dragon Temple on my sin to snatch up a few chests. When we have double drops, I'll be doing a little CoA as well. But Tiger just bores me, Jungle Ruins is a lagball and doesn't fit the game engine, and Tourney..... lol. Take one look at my gear and you'll see why I'm not gonna bother.

    YES!

    The snowmen of 2008, fantastic Event (even if it did lag the cities!) I totally enjoyed it and wish I had kept all the chi stones back then >.<

    I recall finding a few snowmen spawn areas, being told by others 'Hey! This is MY spot so you KSing MY snowmen!' .......


    I recall searching high and low for the missing cards I needed to complete the clips......


    I recall equipping a bow for the first time and being jealous of the 'faster firing' archers!.....(didn't know about dex back then and that was why (cringes))....


    All in all, I vote a big yes on the Return of the Snowmen!



    Or could it be tweaked to become 'Revenge of the Snowmen...?


    Make them fire back!

    I kept a stack of 1000 Wuhsings all year afterward, just in case I wanted to fast-fly. Then when they appeared in 2009, I dumped them all into my genie and began killing snowmen again. I only got 150 or so before the snowmen were gone again. >_<

    I was thinking about that - has the population grown too large now? Maybe what we need is more areas for the snowmen to spawn in. Tiderage, Dreamweaver and Thousand Streams are all good ideas IMO. And if more are needed... I'd say have them spread further out from the cities.

    But even if they returned with just the same number from 2008, I'd be happy. :P

    actually i remeber them doin the snowman event last year. they added a little twist i think by making it a PQ type event...not 100% sure though but it was pretty wild. but yea i loved the snowmen in 08' i lvled like 8 chars to lvl 12-15 in like 30 mins off those things XD i vote a big yes to this frankie and kanto this was srsly the biggest success event wise in PWI history(other than the lag but eh we will live)....and yes make them shoot back....BUT WITH 15 MINS BUFFS :O that would be so mad hardcore XD

    I remember these, wow I feel so old now! I vote a complete yes to the snowman event. Back in 2008 please, but yeah... Try to bring back the Valentine event too please :D I know it would so many of us happy.. It will actually bring back some of the game like it once was for a short period. I know it would sure make me happy >.<

    Snowmen should only return if the new class comes out first. I'm epically tired of leveling characters the normal way... And by the normal way, I mean 3x80+ chars before FF, before BH, when gold was 100-150k... And as evidenced by this character, not leveling a character the hard way in no way makes you less of a threat. b:victory

    I assume I have 1-3 months to stockpile a bunch of leveling goodies for the Earthguard.

    The snowmen were so much fun, I hope they will bring them back this year. One of the things I think PW needs more of are these kinds of whimsical quests that are best when offered as a spontanious surprise in game.

    These kinds of quests break not only the monotony of grinding or harvesting, but they also tend to lift up the players spirits. Those good spirits lasted for some time after last years event and I hope they can offer the snowmen or some other sort of unexpected surprise treat.

    I would like it if the sling didnt have a 24Hour time or something like that. Last year the sling expired and I still have like 5k snowballs left.

    Frankie can't tell us plans for future events until told to without getting fired, though -.-.

    But on topic: yes, I would love a repeat of 2008, from city snowmen to the quest to kill snowmen outside of the cities (the ones that DO hit back, mind you), to the Santa quests to put gifts down chimney's to get an xmas stocking.

    The Snowmen event was the only event worth a damn in the history of PWI thus far. If not for all the free chi stones and mirages I got, but all the epic luls from going out grinding with the snowball slingshot on 8x-9x mobs. xD

    I would REALLY enjoy the snowmen, 'cause my genie is almost dead out of chi. The drops were cool, ofc if you were fast enough to hit the snowmen before all of those ranged classes...b:surrender

    I like the atmosphere or winter and X-mas in PWI, makes me feel cozy.

    The snowman event was great, despite the lag and the wish that they would **** (a toggle for their voices, please?)... Was just really fun and gave a lot of great items. I just wish that I hadn't been such a noob when it came around in 2008 xP

    The snowmen and snowball launcher were there in 2009, and for at least four days (probably longer, a week, with them vanishing then coming back for a few more days IIRC), however the Christmas Trees were not initially there, so you couldn't turn in the cards. The Christmas Trees were later accidentally enabled very briefly (two days?), so only those who hadn't trashed the cards and had somehow collected whole sets (very difficult) could use them.

    This event was before my time since i only started around the beginning of this year, but it sounds like a heap of fun :) Also the chi stone drops would be great for me atm, my poor genie's getting hungry. b:laugh

    Please bring it back so i can experience it b:thanks b:cute. Btw, 1 hit snowmen? Sounds like a good way to level up a pet too :P Though knowing my luck they'll probably turn it on in the 2 weeks i'll be away on holidays without a computer lol.
