When Will GM enforce Game Rules?

I am not sorry about this post. My kids and I play this game and quite frankly I am getting tired of all the foul mouthed, perverted, and socially unacceptable behavior that is being discussed on world chats.

I have heard players talk about oral sex, anal sex, sex with animals and even pedophile comments. The amount of swearing that is going on is unbearable. I have witnessed players claiming to be a GM in world chat. I have seen players FAKE a system message in world chat.

Just because someone pays to play this game doesn't give them the right to abuse world chat or the right to break game rules as follows:

(a) User Content that is unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, suggestive, harassing, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, fraudulent or otherwise objectionable;

(b) Impersonate any person or entity, including any PWE officials, forum leaders, guides, hosts, employees or agents, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;

(h) Impede or disrupt the Service or the normal flow of game play or dialogue in the game or in Interactive Areas on the Site or use vulgar language, abusiveness, use of excessive shouting (ALL CAPS) "spamming" or any other disruptive or detrimental methods in an attempt to disturb other users or PWE employees;

(n) Take any action that disrupts the Service or that negatively affects or may prohibit other users from enjoying the Website, the Games or any other aspect of the Service.

I am tired of some players 'thinking' that they control this game, it is time for the GM crew to put an end to these abusers.

I do not fail by making this post. I am not a no life player. I am tired of the perverts RUINING the game.

IF YOU BREAK THE GAME RULES WHILE I AM ONLINE, YOU WILL GET REPORTED AND PWI WILL DEAL WITH YOUR ABUSE.

No need to be rude about it Sanctam. If you don't want to read posts about this kind of stuff, don't come here.

To the OP, I agree. World Chat does need to be cleaned up, but until the GMs do something about it (which hasn't happened since the first few months of the game), it's just going to get worse. When I look at my chat box and see people talking about pornographic acts, it just makes me shudder. Things like that should just not be broadcast to the world. Thank you for expressing your opinion, and I am behind you 110%!

I wish that KrittyCat and I were game moderators, because then there would be bans handed out for those who abuse game rules.

Oh and Sanctam, (n) Take any action that disrupts the Service or that negatively affects or may prohibit other users from enjoying the Website, the Games or any other aspect of the Service.

I am not prohibiting you from enjoying the website, I am prohibiting you from making posts like this one:

Where you clearly break the forum rules when you replied:

On MY-EN, the GMs there used to monitor WC and mute players from chat for 3 days or so if they abused WC too much or severely. Kinda wish they would do that here, but...no.

For the OP's sake...you need to realize that many of the sex and drug references on WC are just jokes or people being angry and too stupid to reply better. If someone is actually PMing you with cyber sex invites though, that's when you report. Or when people are flooding WC with a bunch of racist remarks.

Also, this reminds me...I haven't said my "vaginas aren't teleportation devices" PSA lately.

that isn't his arguement as such, he is saying that young kids play this game i myself have seen a player that was 10 if you had a child would you want them to be reading sex talk as described above? me i wouldn't i'd be pissed, a muting to players like this for 3 days would be a good start.

    enough said.

If I had a child, they wouldn't be playing this game quite yet at the age of 10. 12 or 13...sure after I have "that talk" with them.

And that is your choice, just like it was the OP's choice whether to speak out or remain silent. So express your opinion, yes, but don't think that parents with no other options won't resort to allowing their children to play games like this. As PWI allows 13+ year olds to play the game (yes, I know the young ones need parental permission), they have essentially taken on the role of a pseudo-guardian, and should be doing their best to protect those players. How much would it cramp your style to have WC monitored a little more closely?

I've played MMORPGs since a young age. ALL of them I have played have had some kind of foul language. (Seriously, not kidding you) I'm 22 now, am I messed up by this? Nope.

(I was a guild leader at 12 in a very popular MMORPG at the time with PvP, you don't think I heard bad language?)

My father had simply told me that's how some adults talk, and to ignore it.

If it really bugs you, maybe take your kids to a kids' game?

Please take screenshots with the abuser's names showing in the chats or world chats, and send them in to customer support in a ticket. They can then research them and take the appropriate actions against them.

Please note that it is against the TOS for kids under 13 to be playing (unless they have permission and set things up with Customer Support) the game.

The rest of this are my personal opinions, being a parent myself, training pandas in the dark arts of the Sith...

Whenever you have any type of game, program, or other open communication system, people who think they are anonymous will start acting like immature, vulgar, whiny, monsters. Many who wouldn't do the same things in real life face to face with someone because they could go to jail, get beat up, or otherwise shunned for such blatant stupidity.

It is a very "use at your own risk" type of thing especially when you let your kids play a game with adults playing it. Those adults have very different morals, viewpoints, and perspectives of what they deem what is appropriate or not in their world.

Like in the real world, when you see someone who obviously can't apply makeup correctly, or their "style" of clothes is tearing out your eyeballs, you just have to ignore it and move on.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

Have to say I like this reply. I do wonder thought what do you find is appropriate action? I have sent in SS and reports but nothing has ever happened. I only wonder due to friends being Blizzard employees and I know how they like to make things work, mainly ignoring it.

It is a cruel world and sadly while I wish these people would be kind to each other it is a fact of life that in the a group or online people lose their social facades and take on a more brutal outlook. I do find it funny though that on a certain site for adults you have less sexual talk than you do on PWI.

I was just thinking we have so many servers that would it not be an idea to make one PG-13, as in a family server. You would enforce the rules harder on there and leave the other servers a lil more relaxed? I mean would that not be a good way to bring in more families?
You would be encouraging parents to bring their children and they would know that, that server alone would be a family one.

Quite frankly, no one's going to do anything about that, because this would mean that they ban the paying majority of players, which in return would cut their income (like in every other mmorpg I played the past 10 years).

I agree tho, something needs to be done about it.
Last time I reported an online community to US authorities, because they wouldn't do anything about the public cybersex and child abuse by pedophiles, I got my account there banned for that xD, of course for other, made up reasons, and I too was one of the people who had spent cash on that website.

So I wonder how they gonna handle it here if you try doing something against it on your own. xD

PS: oh and of course I am expecting all sorts of denials from the GMs now that they would do anything alike xD

I wonder.. GMs should become politicians.. they are just as good in promising and afterwards denying xD

I love darthpanda16 a bit more now, I agree though WC spam with these kind of conversations even as jokes are sometimes offensive/vulgar/or just annoying. From now on, I am going to Screen Shot every one I see that is similar. I recommend others to do the same, hopefully that will help clean up World chat a bit more.

Never do get why we should screen shot, I mean if you actually had a report member for actions against TOS it would be very handy. I mean GM's have chat logs.

Well for now I am going to make a new faction for families. It will make sure TOS is enforced and it is kept to a PG-13.

I understand how hard it is for GM's, my mates being Blizzard employee's means I see most of the emails of a type you get. There are so many people who play that it can be very hard to stop every single idiot. That said I think making a server that is entirely PG13 would be a brilliant idea, you could easily merge two of the servers together. It would be an easier way to get families to trust PWI.

Actually you cannot but you can instead move general chat into say trade option.
What I find annoying with this game is, people will say "oh well if you don't like it, don't use/read/look at it". So what your saying is turn a blind eye to everything because why bother trying to voice our opinions, nothing will change.

Im 21 yo and i tried endless times to report some ppl in my server for their talks, i sent at least 10 tickets, with detailed informations and screenshots.

They insult / talk racist / trashtalk about diseases etc. They even laughed about a guy who died irl. Friend or not friend, a decent society doesnt accept no respect for the deads or no respect for ppl with cancer.

You guys, gms, mods or whatever, you never banned them even for a single day.

You are even worse than them.

No respect for this kind of work. And no respect for you. Not anymore.

I am a Tech Support Panda, not a S.W.A.T.-like GM.

When you send in screenshots, it helps the CS people to match what you show with what they actually said, so when someone tries to deny it (which many do), they can get extra time on their ban. As long as the data matches up on what was reported, people do get banned. They may not get banned the same day you report it (due to the 1-5 business day turn around time), but when evidence is legit, actions are taken.

A PG-13 server, as much as I think that would be cool, would never happen IMHO. There is no way to censor tens of millions of people with less then 200 people.

That is why our awesome community helps with things like this, and reports things.

Think of it like neighborhood watch programs, and even in other similar things in life, people wouldn't get caught unless someone saw them and called the police. There are far more people then police in the real world.

Same kind of thing here. The game is like a public park in real life, and all types of people play in it. Some talk clean, some talk dirty. Only when someone is offended or catches someone, does it get reported. b:shutup

I have two teenagers, and they unfortunately hear far worst things over voice chat on Xbox Live then what most MMOs have in text chat (and they block and mute people constantly). Hearing hateful things in someone's whiny, insecure, ugly voice leaves more of an impression on you then text pixels on a screen, and is easier to deal with (IMHO). b:surrender

If you guys have anymore questions about things like this, please send in a ticket to Customer Support with your comments and suggestions (and sweet, sweet reports), and we will work to take care of things and pass on your feedback! b:victory

I checked in with CS, and they have been issuing bans to the people who have been abusing world chat and other harassment, on the ones that you provided full info on.

Please note, you must include screenshots, names, times, dates with your complaints to speed along the process.

Think of it as giving a description to the police of the person that mugged you. If you just tell them "green shirt, blue pants, smelled bad", that isn't going to help them investigate as well as if you told them what they looked like, how tall they were, what time it was roughly, what scars they have, etc.

Screenshots: i sent many, i just didnt sent them in last 1 or 2 tickets cause i was getting bored of uploading them while gms wouldnt care of them.

Names: i told almost all names in almost every ticket, or just check in screenshots.

Times & Date: screenshots files names shows em, even if sometimes i changed them with the "names" of ppl that should be banned.

I always provided everything. I'm not talking about you personally, darthpanda.

Im talking to the gms who always answered me "yeayea *shush noob* we'll take care of the lil ppl who hurt your heart b:cute"

    And never banned anyone.

    Im sick of this.

btw, im happy too see that a gm finally answered to what i said. thanks.

Okay I will point out there are 11million users on world of (begins with a W and ends with a T) with MANY more servers than you guys have. They have limited GM's, Tech, AS etc. Yes somehow they can handle it so much easier? I have friends who are GM's and each day they set up a specific person to watch the normal chat in cities to make sure no one is being abusive.
If you wanted to make it easier instead of just having report bot or whatever the option is, add in a option in chat to report against TOS.

Oh and about the screen shots, are you kidding me? Give a username and check the chat records, if you don't keep them then I would be greatly surprised as it can be law in some countries. Now I don't mind making your lives easier and taking screen shots etc but if you just added a button ingame to record time/date which would be your on GMT + time instead of say my own, it would help.

Now about the PG 13 server, this one is easy as hell to do! Come on seriously all you do is offer parents to get involved! Offer a work at home option to people who have helped in the past with reports to go to this new server (transfer goods just to be nice and give an incentive). Now say you did this with 20 people who are actively participating in the server, you could easily keep world chat under control but giving certain users the powers to temp mute for hell 10 min or maybe 30 just to get the point across. If they abuse the system them warn them and never let them help PW again.
Take a look at ******** they have agreed to allow users to help the community by becoming "Forum Assistant" who have limited privileges in comparison to their counter parts the "Site Moderator". You could easily apply these to the game as the assistants are like apprentices, they work for free. Well you can pay in zen which would be a nice idea.
You would have your GM's who do the usual which you would have GM Assistant's who look after the world chat, remarks in normal, general harassment that could be quickly sorted by these assistants and then later reviewed by the GM's.

Would work no? I know I went from a specific server to having GM Assistants who could work on that server but also work on all servers.

@Vorhs, looking over all of your tickets, you did not include screenshots with all of your reports. Please try to include more info. One of the reasons we have to have more info is because we do have people reporting people's names that didn't do anything, and are just mad at them for some reason, and their complaint is invalid.

As for "hiring" free people to moderate the game chats, it isn't ever going to happen. They must be employees and be able to be in the office every day. Background checks are done, and security is very important. This is more of a corporate ruling structure for all 3,100+ PW employees (China, USA, and other studios around the world). There are some good ideas there!

The only volunteers we allow are Mods on the forums because it is external from the game servers.

There are tons of shoulda coulda wouldas with trying to curb chats. We do take in all of your feedback and suggestions so improvements can be made in the future. We do appreciate your input! b:victory

@Vorhs - You submitted more tickets then that, some as ALL CAPS wall of texts and with inappropriate language to PWE Staff, but that isn't the point. Please note it is against the ToS and Forum rules to post communications between yourself and PWE employees, as well as to lie about what was told to you by PWE Staff. I know you were joking, but others may not. b:thanks

PWE is not going to send an email back to every person that reports things and to tell you what the punishment was for the perp.

Example: If we banned you for something (temp), and a member of the competing Faction was the one who reported you, would you want PWE to tell them when and what your ban was?

That isn't fair to your faction, or to you, and that could affect Territory Wars and other parts of the gameplay. That kind of information is not ever going to be shared.

Good rule of thumb for everything and everyone though, is to keep reporting!
