At least people are willing to put their name forth. Regardless of whether or not you perceive them to be a joke, the simple fact that there are applicants shows that some people do care enough about the wellbeing of the community to at least try.

Me is sure Fuzzy and all the other applicants will be flamed soon enough if they do open any sort of opinion poll, but thats ok. A mod needs a thick skin anyway.

This post just inspired me to consider applying...

Personally I think a few/most skipped this line here:

    3. Moderating is a fairly thankless job; if you're doing it to be loved, you're in for a rude awakening.

how come you never talked like a hamsta wannabe when you posted on boozin?

boozin was the bm (and a self admitted fail one) that Fuzzy played before the Raging Tide server went live. It is true he did not speak in the same vernacular as Fuzzy, but simply speaking in the 3rd person does not make for "a hamsta wannabe". Much like the game itself, Fuzzy post for enjoyment. Me has simply chosen to do so in a creative way since bringing Fuzzy to life on the first day of Raging Tides.

Fuzzy is sure that in every post, what me actually trying to communicate is never lost. The method me choose to say it in matters not as long as Fuzzy say what me mean, and mean what me say. Agreed?

btw, interesting you even remember any posts by that character. b:victory

Or they just want to inflate their ego.

I'm not making generalizations about all applicants but it would be naive for you to claim that every applicant wants to better the community. It shouldn't escape you that at least a few of them want the job because they think it makes them cool.

Fuzzy think a mod's job is to facilitate discussion on the board through enforcement of the policy set in place by the company. If thats what you mean by "represent" then ok, me agree. However, it not their place to ever speak on behalf of the company, that supposed to be the realm of the CM & GM's.

100% agree thou, it not be needed for a mod to be a representative of the community either. They simply need to be even-handed, unbias, and fair when applying the terms set forth by the company to EACH and EVERY member who chooses to post.

A mod should not be bound by the marketing/strategic/whatever the company wants, nor by some sense of loyalty or obligation to the community at large. Their only master need be the terms and conditions by which people who post have agreed to abide by. (And lets face it, they are pretty easy to follow if you even have a modicum of common sense and intelligence.)

    b:bye

Fuzzy for mod-dom. Barbs need representation around here, and come to think to think of it, so do fish.

Making the applications public is such a bad idea. I can see it now... Frankie announces his choice, people hate it, criticize the new mod's application letter by letter, and then link to a dozen other people they think would have been better for the job.

Also, why only add one more mod to the bunch? What's the harm in letting a few more people join the team if they're qualified and happy to do it? It wouldn't hurt to have TOO MANY mods.

I wouldn't say the idea in itself is so bad. We do need more moderators on this forum, and this is a way to get them. People can PM frankie about their concerns about specific mods and their arguments against them, so that's allowing us to have a voice in the decision. Regardless of who's chosen, there's going to be dissent, but that's the way it goes. You can't please everybody. But at least this way, you can say we had a voice in the whole process.

That being said, I'm generally against mod applications as well. I find that it attracts way too many attention seeking people who just do the job to be praised and sucked up to. These people generally get bored within the first few months and then they slack off, maybe abuse things and then they leave with a bad impression on everybody.

Best people I'd say are still the ones you scout yourself.

Lively debate within the forum should be fostered and encouraged and thus great care must be taken when moving or merging or closing a thread. There are some "touchy" subjects that the community wants to talk about and careful consideration must be given to these before being moderated harshly.

Trolling and flaming be a whole different ball game.

Perhaps not every applicant has the wellbeing of the community in mind, but me can only speak for Fuzzy when me say he does.

I for one would like in game "Game Sages" for all time zones and servers. They could help moderate the forums and help with in game problems. Certainly would be a help to the GM's and the mod's.
