I have just leveled a Dark Wanderer up to the same level as my other pets because of its reputation as being 1 of the best DD pets in the game, after finally getting him leveled up to lvl70 i did some testing against 3 different mobs to see how his attacks stacked up against my other pets.

My Eldergoth has the highest base (1355) and bash (2475) attack of all my pets while Dark Wanderer does base (1224) and bash (2085), both have maxed bars with Exp-2450/2450 so i was wandering is Dark considered the best because of the Attk-0.80/sec compared to Eldergoth at 0.50/sec?

p.s. for some reason my eldergoth has lvl5 bash while all my other pets can only learn up to lvl4 bash.

you want to calculate damage per second, rather than damage per hit, yes. multiply that out based on attacks per second and seconds between bashes, and your wanderer might look rather better.

newly tamed pets might indeed have default skills of a level higher than you could teach them at their "character" level. this is in fact common enough that some people make decisions as to which pet to tame based partly on what skill levels they bring, not just what the skills are. occasionally it's the only major difference between two pets, even --- compare the eldergoth marksman and sharpshooter.
    [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.

As LenieClarke said, the DPS of the DW is much higher than the Eldergoth, but it's really only evident during boss fights. Pet skills take the same amount of time to cast/hit, so with the Eldergoth's much higher patk, the bash skill would hit for much higher.

Say the mob you're hitting takes 7 seconds to die with both you and your pet hitting (one cast each of Venomous, Ironwood, and Lucky). The Eldergoth does 2475+(7-1.5)*1355*0.5 = 6201 damage, while the DW does 2085+(7-1.5)*1224*0.8 = 7471 damage. It's still an appreciably higher amount, but it's really just one normal hit, and if the pet runs for a little longer or your skills take the rest of the mob's HP before your pet does (like you have -chan gear), you won't really notice a difference. In a longer fight though, the DW would do a lot more than the Eldergoth.

Sorry, just in a mathy mood, 'cause I'm procrastinating on a lab report b:surrender
