Applications....

First off; No idea which forum this even belongs in. I'm putting it in General since the GM's look here mainly.
Ok, so as many people have seen. New mod's have been appointed to our forum. Good for them.
What I'm curious of is if the GM's, or other Mod's if they know how to, can place up an application for people who may want to help with the forums, apply to become a PWI forum mod (Powers being restricted to the PWI forums only). This would possibly allow more control in the forums, and less social/community backlash because it can be people who have been big hits in the forum that become mods. Along with that, you would also be able to place people into a mod position who, in a loss for better words, just don't give a flying damn what others think about them.
From that you'd have the big social stars who can become mods (less social backlash and more happiness in a sense), and the "No-care" type mods who will shut a thread down if it breaks forum rules.
This might give you, Frankie, a break and allow the mods to gain control of the forums. Which in turn, could possibly be a good thing.
(I guess you could think of the two mod types as "The Priest" and "The Assassin". One class who is loved by all, One class who is hated by all.)
To end this;
/flame shield
/water hose
/fire hydrant
/tsnuami on back order

I want to apply for moderating psychic forum only, can I? b:avoid[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Hypnos: Well that was also a branch idea I was thinking about. Where players could sign up to be selected to be able to mod specific forums that require more people patrolling it than others.
But I don't think there are enough forum topics and sub-forums for that to work out right in balancing issues.0 -
tbh I just want to see what is the avatar of Psychic Moderator b:cry[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Why does this idea seem familiar?
Oh. Wait.
http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=881862An earlier poster was right, at this point the people who would have made good mods and were a good part of the community have left for logical and obvious reasons.
I think this is a forum on the brink of war, and at the moment there is no "right" way to pick a staff team, only a way to try and find the best suited for the job. For that matter, I would probably have official 'auditions' if you were for, for moderating positions.
People who felt they could adequately moderate would send me an application form, very much like they were applying for a job. It's a terribly formal way of doing things and I don't particularly enjoy doing it if I can avoid it, but more often than not it works. People who aren't dedicated enough to fill out that form would not be dedicated enough to do their job properly. Similar it lets you view who is and who is not suitable for a job without having to glance all over a form to check things.
And given the state of this forum right now, I'd probably have myself do some research into the promising applicants' posts to confirm what they say, simply because I wouldn't dare take any chances and would like to try and make sure I made the best possible choice I could have made at this point in time.
This is a very dire situation, don't get me wrong. There's no easy nor right way to pick moderators at this point with a forum in such chaos. But. That is what I would do if it ws up to me.0 -
Well I can't blame you Hypnos. Maybe you can have frankie ask the design team to place up a set of the Moderator icons they use for each class?0

Sorry, Never read that thread before. Nor do I care enough to read the the whole of it. Thanks for the quick quote, but my topic is still like it is.
I placed it where they can have select people and types to choose. This is my idea, not a shared idea.0 -

So what is your idea? I tried to read your posts, but they're all so incoherent.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
any of the current problems can obviously be solved by giving even more novice-at-best mods mod powers, because the problems certainly didn't stem from overzealous use of new mod toys by new mods. clearly you have your thumb on the pulse.
good-cop/bad-cop mods? what good could possibly come from that, really.
What terrible ideas, just terrible.
Leave forum administrating alone, and go work on your warsoul.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

No. No. And....No.
They may be very active on the forums, but they are not suitable for forum moderator status. They have shown in many posts hostility and favoritism towards certain individuals.
To be a successful mod on a forum, one must be diplomatic, fair and neutral on all levels. One must not have a ban-happy trigger finger, nor spout off the mouth at the blink of an eye when someone doesnt agree with their point of view.
Which all three names above have repeatedly done. Over and over and over again.

This thread is a poster child as to why they don't/won't allow members to vote on a mod.
The moderator needs not be a representative of the community or whatever. People seem to think this is a democratic process. No. They don't need to represent other posters, they need to represent the company.0 -

*Sigh* It seems people didn't fully read the post.
To sum it up, Hypnos, RedsRose, and Airyll would actually be good mods; BUT they would fall into the category of "Social happy" type mods.
More or less they would be used as shields. While the "uncaring" type mods do all the dirty work.
Love n' Hate type of mods is the simplest way to put it.
P.S. The mods that fall into the "Social happy" category, would have to only have the power to lock/delete/move threads not the power to ban. The group that is "uncaring" should be allow to access the power to ban, but only for temp bans (3 day max temp ban mainly), so that they will make a point across the boards.0 -

Moderators don't have the power to ban on vBulletin. Only Administrators.0 -

I partly agree. Then they should have brought as mods new ppl that got nothing to do with community or atleast those who i can't get "dirt" on just by clicking the Search button...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

why would a moderator need to represent the company?
moderators exist to make it easier for other people to have useful discussions on the fora --- in theory, anyway. i agree they don't need to represent the community in order to do that; in fact, at times they need to be able to work against individual members of the community. i would agree with Airyll url]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=881862[/url that moderators need to be able to work with the community (in general terms), but that's a different matter.
representing the company, though... if that's really necessary, it would say things about the purpose and nature of these forums that i for one would very strongly disagree with. the company's representative here should be its own product; the game we're all here to talk about. if that's not enough, dragooning the mods will not help.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

I've been on other vBulletin forums. Mods can have access to the ban power, but it's usually via infractions built up, or an admin passing temp ban allowance to moderator ranks.0 -

I stand corrected. They now have the ability to ban.0 -

A moderator only needs to really know what to lock or what to move where, and enforce rules. It's a task even the biggest simpleton can accomplish. They get their directions from an admin/CM and follow it. Voila. That's it.
You're acting as if they should know posters personally like they're your psychiatrist. They do not need in any, way, shape, or form to represent the community. This is not a union. Moderators are contributing time. Time is a donation to the company for helping enforce a company's policy on forum usage. Helping is something that should be "community" based, as in, amongst posters. Sure, it's nice and a bonus if a moderator does that, but your expectations of what a moderator of a company's video game forum entails is way out in left field.
I almost crapped myself laughing a few weeks ago when someone mentioned their civil rights.0 -
