hi everyone :]
i want to try out a foxform veno. from what ive read so far, a fox can only fight with a magic weapon. a lot of players use the lvl22 golden magic sword requireing 66 int, because the damage is relatively high in the face of the rather moderate int req.
i thought, damage would increase significantly if int was raised to 100++, in order to wear a strong magic sword.. then again, meeting the armor's str/dex reqs will cost a lot of stats as well and eventually there would none be left for con...
related to the weapon issue is the armor, here's what goes through my mind:
using a robe would mean a lot of int and hardly any str/agi (stats would be: int for armor req, rest con). it would give me the possibility though to use a magic sword with a decent dmg. plus i had a high mag res. the cons: physical defense is practically not there.
a light armor would cost a lot less str, but at the same time more agi, which on the other hand is not all that bad since (i think) more agi raises your hitchance and this is actually on of the foxes problems.
a heavy armor would mean a decent physical defense. since the fox mostly takes part in close combat i'd guess this is the armor of choice.
so, to sum up:
- how should i set my stat points?
- which weapon should i wear? barehand, golden lvl22 sword, high int req sword, ...?
- which armor?
thanks for your replies =]

3: Heavy Armor
High phys defense, high magic defense, low hp.
STR: (Enough to wear heavy armor 3-4 grades lower than you - equates to (level - 10 or 20) * 2.5 +2)
AGI: (Enough to wear heavy armor 3-4 grades lower than you)
MAG (Your level x3)
VIT: 3 (Or however many points are left over.)
Which armor is right for me?
Any of these builds are viable with a caster class, and all of them can wear robes as well. If you wish to go purely fox form, you can choose the heavy armor build or light armor build and scrap int to use a lower grade weapon so that you can either keep current with your heavy armor requirements, add to str for additional damage, or add to con for survivability. Honestly though, I would not recommend scrapping your magic tree in favor of fighting only in fox form, as limiting yourself to pure melee physical damage screws you against ranged classes.
Of course, I'm not saying a heavy armor melee fox would be terrible. You would have insanely high pdef in fox form, your hp would be much higher than a heavy armor/robe mix, and your skills should be enough to at least prevent any pure melee character from killing you. Attack damage is weak unless you scrap your int in favor of str, in which case you'd have to use weapons that are a few grades lower than your current level as well as ruin your pet heal. Heavy armor foxes typically get 66 int for the beast class fb19 (id19?) level 22 gold magic sword, or 90 int for the fb29 level 30 starsealer.
Personal recommendation/experience:
I play a light armor fox. Robes simply die far too quickly to anything physical. Heavy armor by itself suffers the same problem except to magical, unless you add a **** ton to con and scrap int. A popular choice now seems to be the robe / low grade heavy armor mix which affords mildly better defenses than light armor at equivalent stat costs, although of course the critical hit percent is lower. Light armor doesn't afford spectacular defenses, with damage reductions ranging from 45%-55%, with physical damage reduction topping off at about 65% in fox form. Having never played a robe/heavy armor mix, I cannot say for sure what the damage reductions are, but as the flat numbers are higher, we can assume it adds another 5% or so to each category.

I'd recommend that you go for either Arcane Armour or Light Armour untill level 80+.
This is because starting with heavy armour is a road to pain. Your HP is very very low ( you can afford only 3 or 5 Vit) so you have to rely on your armour. Refines and high lvl shards however come in at higher levels because not only are they expensive but because it is not worth refining low level gear (because you level up quite fast). Also, you have to wear lower level armour than your actual level.
For example, I restated my second Venomancer from Light Armour to Heavy at lvl 70. She has to wear lvl 60s Heavy Armour (because of lack of str/dex) and the TT60 weapon (because of lack of mag) but her physical defence is still insane (12k with fox form, cleric buff and BM buff) and her physical attack is as high as a lvl70 Light Armour fox because you have more Str points than LAs.
Her HP is still low but I'm working on it. I have to say that I restatted early because I was impatient.b:chuckle
Rei's Heavy Armour guide is wonderful. Read it once but leave the restatting for later levels. Weapons, stats, everything is explained there.[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

I dont really understand why ppl continue to make new threads about the heavy build when theres a sticky at the top about it. If they've got any questions about it, it should be posted in the sticky.>.<0
