Odd Ping Issues

Lately I have noticed that my ping tends to sit around 1k, sometimes lower if i am lucky. Yet when I am standing in the middle of West Arch or in Center of arch next to the Bounty Hunter, my ping is somewhere around 500. And when I go to fight something in a bh or just mobs in general, my ping kicks up to over 2k.

My highest ping was 14k and lately it has gotten to the point where i die almost constantly from freezing and taking aggro from the tank and dying.

Does anyone have advice for me on what to do? Or do others have similar issues?

Also, my internet connection is wireless hooked up to cable.

    You can try hitting F9 (Best Performance mode). It will help you a bit, but the populated areas (west arch, center arch) will always be very taxing to your computer.

    You can also try shutting down programs that might be taking some of your system resources such as IM's, Internet browsers, etc.

    Restart your computer. Check how much ram you have, and then if ram is low thats part of it, check your speed of your connection. But you should try to wire into your router or modem for best performance

    Try playing on a wired connection and see if that helps. If it doesn, then something might be interfering with the wireless connection, the router might not be handling the transmissions well, or the network chipset on your PC might be having problems, or needs a firmware or driver update.
    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    Darth i like you all but you kinda just said the same thing as me about a wired connection. i just said if that wasnt it it was his connection speeed

    You can also run a few traceroutes to our server IPs, and see what pings you get on each hop across the internet.

    Thank you all for the tips, I shall try them all out. =) And my computer is a laptop so it cannot hook up to a plug in internet, at least that is what my dad told me. =/

    It can you just need a Cat-5 cable. they are fairly expensive.. Or you could just unplug your desktop and plug it into your laptops internet port

    Hey man, do you share your internet connection with anyone? I share the internet connection with my sister and I lag badly (3k to 6k ping) whenever she downloads anything. It's not because we have a slow internet connection speed, but because she has this program that takes away or rather, force all the download speed to her, which left me with almost nothing b:angry

    So maybe you have to upgrade your internet plan or something?

    Also, you actually Can connect your laptop to a modem, to have a stable and constant internet speed. I think it's through the use of an Ethernet Cable. You should find the port (where you plug in the ethernet cable) behind or on the left side of your laptop. If you can't find an ethernet port in your laptop, you can always purchase one, that can be connected to your laptop with USB. It looks like a thumbdrive to be precise, but the end has an ethernet port for you to connect the cable.

    But to have a wired connection, you definitely have to be close to the modem/router. Which actually beats the purpose of having a laptop, well, it's suppose to be portable in the sense.

    If she be downloading using a torrent program, make a deal with her to limit her download speed and in return you won't download junk 24/7 @ full speed as well. (you both be using the same connection so what you do can slow her connection down as well.)

    My dad and I share the internet and he basically only uses it for email and things like that. The other day he unplugged our internet box for about an hour and plugged it back in and my ping has yet to get over 800. :) Tends to stay around smooth.
