Nirvana Armor Set Questions

Hello everyone. I have a few questions about the nirvana sets. I tried the search tool, but ended up with a cesspool of topics concerning runs, QQs and a few that didn't quite answer my questions fully.

1. Can you mix and match pieces from the light and dark set and still receive the bonuses?

For example, can I still get a + 5 attack lvl if I had one light and one dark armor piece on?

2. Does the light set offer a better defense value than the dark set?

The light set gives a higher numerical value for defense, while the dark set offers it based on a few more additional % bonus stats. When I compared the light and dark pants piece using PW Calculator, the light piece had a 1% more defense than the dark piece. Even after I applied a few defense debuff skills, the defense value that was displayed was the same % when comparing both light and dark. In PVE, you rarely find a boss that does more than 2 different skills of defense decrease for the same type of defense (like either just phys. or magic only). In PVP, you're likely to be dead by the time 3 or more of the same defense debuff hits you. So would it be safe to say that the light set is more favorable (ignoring the aesthetics of the armor)?

Thank you.

No, the set bonus is for two, five or six pieces of armor. You can have two Lunar Nirvana and two TT Nirvana pieces to get the set bonus for each. But one piece of each does not give you any bonus.

As for your second question, I'll let someone else answer that.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

    Yes.

I believe Asterelle worked it out in a similar thread. Unless you have highly refined ornaments (+9 or better?) you will get more defense out of the Lunar set.

Thank you Val for the verification, I was afraid this might be true since I've made the TT99 pants a while ago. Now I really regret having made it. I forgot to ask you this the other week during our nirvana run - how often do you usurp aggro from a fist bm that have similar claw/fist refines due to your sage fire buff and HA build?

It's tough to gauge since I mostly do Nirvana these days and there's the constant aggro resetting and seals to mess things up. My usual crew has two BMs, both with superior weaponry and I'm very grateful that we have a good cleric to keep me healed while I'm holding on to aggro.

I'd like to find out how well I compare to a BM with equivalent weapon, though I'd need a more controlled enviornment than Nirvana to make a valid test. My gut instinct is that it would be very close. I know that I out aggro BMs with lesser refined weapons.

Does that mean that I still have a chance of getting TT99 set? b:chuckle

If you have full TT99 set on Sanct with +5 refines or better you are a CSer. No matter what you say.

If you were to mix and match sets use TT for wrists and boots. Those sacrifice the least amount of defense to have an extra +4% defense buff.
