i read so much about players ticking off other players by stealing aggro from them.
i solo most of this game but i am slowly turning to the helping side seeing how i am getting more squad invites to do the same quest which makes it much more easy to do. plus i am meeting nice players along the way.
i don't want to "steal aggro" from them, please let me know how players are doing this so i don't do it by mistake.
plus what does aggro mean?

I shall try to put this in terms that a mainly solo veno can understand.
This game works generally with 3 main roles: tank, healer, damage dealer
A tanks job is to hold "aggro", a healers job is to mainly heal the tank (while healing other squad members as necessary), and damage dealers deal lots of damage to the target.
Easiest way to put it is that the person who "has aggro" is the person/pet who is being attacked.
In the case of a venomancer that solos, your pet is your tank and holds aggro so that you do not get hit, allowing you to deal damage and heal it.
If you hit whatever your pet is attacking too hard, you will steal aggro from it - and the boss/mob will begin to attack you.
venos in squad that use their pet to deal damage should turn off their pets "aggro" skill such as bash (right click on the skill to make the skill become inactive). that way your pet will run less chance to steal aggro from the tank.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Aggro means aggression.
For example, when you send your pet to hit something, it currently is taking aggro from
the monster. If you use a spell and the monster turns to start hitting you, you have just
stolen aggro.
Aggro can be stolen in numerous ways.
1. Player 1 and Player 2 are hitting a monster at the same speed. Player 1 hits a little
harder than Player 2.Player 2 uses spark eruption and hits harder than Player 1. Player 2
has stolen aggro because the player hits harder than Player 1 in the same amount of time.
2. Player 1 is an assassin, Player 2 is a fist/claw blademaster. Daggers hit 1.25 times a
second while fists hit 1.43 times a second. Player 1 hits higher than Player 2, but Player 2
will keep aggro because the player is hitting at a faster rate, even though player 2 is
hitting lower.
3. This one you should already know, heal aggro. Player 1 is any class, Player 2 is a cleric.
Player 1 runs close to a monster, so it starts running to attack the player. Player 2 heals
Player 1 before player 1 attacks the monster. Player 2 has now stolen aggro, and is
in a bit of trouble.0 -

i see how that could mess up the system a crew has while fighting.
funny thing is that my attack is double my pet and i never steal aggro from it.
i guess the mob dies before it comes for me.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Stealing aggro is something everyone wants you to do.
You will only make friends by stealing aggro.
Stealing aggro proves how awesome you areOn indefinite hiatus0 -
Aggro= How pissed the monster is at you...
And generally unless you are: Tanking, saving the cleric/Tabber/Member;
Stealing aggro is not something you want to do...
and in conventional manner; The more damage you inflict, the more that monster wants to put you 6 feet under.0 -

thats because veno pets and barbarians have "aggro" skills which make the mobs want to attack us more than they want to attack other people. The mobs/bosses still want to attack the other people who have hit him or are healing someone that hits him though, but as long as the hatred generated by those aggro skills is higher than the hatred generated by damage and heals, the tank will hold aggro.
Heals have weak aggro
Attacks have stronger aggro
Aggro skills have even stronger aggro
extremely high damage has even more aggro than aggro skills.
Heres a common scenario on why its bad to "steal aggro":
A squad is fighting a boss and the barbarian is flesh reaming his furry butt off to hold aggro and keep everyone safe. A damage dealer with a huge e-peen decides to try to steal aggro from the barb by sparking as much as they can to deal as much damage as possible. Eventually, even though the barbarian is using his aggro skill, the hatred (aggro) generated by the damage dealer with the huge e-peen will overcome the amount of hatred (aggro) generated by the barbarian using flesh ream, and the boss will turn around to attack the damage dealer instead of the barbarian. The cleric freaks out and stops healing the barbarian to try to save the damage dealer from dying, but is too late and the damage dealer dies. Now the aggro is back on the barbarian because he now has the most hatred (aggro) again. The cleric decides to revive the damage dealer because he/she needs the kill also so. Meanwhile the barbarians health is dropping from not getting heals. Instead of continuing to heal the barb after reviving the damage dealer, the cleric decides they need to fully heal the damage dealer and buff them too. By this time the barb may be dead before the cleric realizes what is going on. If the barb is now dead, the cleric thinks OMG OMG OMG I need to rez the barb quick. So she does this instead of healing the damage dealers that are still alive. One by one while the cleric tries to revive the barb and heal/buff him, the damage dealers bite the dust - starting with whoever was doing the most damage. DD 1 dies, DD 2 dies, DD 3 dies, DD 4 Dies all while the cleric is trying to revive the barb. Next in line? The cleric.
Moral of the story? If someone steals aggro intentionally - OFW - they don't get rezzed.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Aggro isn't determined by damage alone. For more details on aggro see the Aggro entry in the PWI wiki.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
