Hi
its late im tired and my eyes hurt, so i apologize if i skipped the formula for calculating the success rate of the Soul of Silence skill in one of the stickies... b:beatup

Heres my question formulated in a sentence:

How can I calculate the success rate for silencing a target with Soul of Silence, which is determined by my Soulforce?

(like for eg the success rate for a lvl 70 psy with 8500 soulforce :) )
thx in advance b:thanks

ok i asked around.. a lvl 70's psychic's chance to successfully cast soul of silence is under 6% 8[ so i guess that aint something you can rely on when pking :/

No, Soul of Silence isn't really all that reliable...ever.

It's more of an "Oh, that's cool that it happened to kick in, I get a free hit" kind of thing, usually.

Though I think it's been previously determined that a full +12 Psy at level 100 would have enough Soulforce to give it roughly a 30-40% chance, which is pretty legit.

I main a 97 Psy named /\bra. The forums don't like his name.
So I post on my Barb.

Yeah, I have 10k soulforce and barely have a 6% chance to silence them with it on.

It's cool for barbs or BMs when they tank, since they are gonna get hit a lot, so it triggers more often for them. But for anyone else, it's really not reliable.

First If you mean tank boss it doesn t work on them
Second it s annoying thing to see the mob run away of you when you are a melee class ijs...

doesnt it also cost mana? at least that's what the description says, I must admit that I never checked my mana pool...

btw I think that it would activate in fb19 bosses.. but whatever XD

I have 15062 Soulforce and 9.04% chance of silence.

    Assuming 15000 = 9%, .01% chance of silence would equal 15.5 soulforce.

    15000/15.5 = 967.74

    967.74 x .01 = 9.67% chance of stun.

Not exact, but a rough estimate at least. From that...Seems like 16.6 Soulforce = .01% chance of silence.

Max soulforce possible (for a level 100) is like 55250, so about an even 33% chance.

If LONGKNIFE, (one of the five 100+ Psychics in Harshlands) only has a 9% chance....It might be just me, but it's honestly not worth relying on. You may get lucky, and it actually stick...but I'd rather not take the chance.

if you feel like spending ten grand refining your gear to +12, it could possibly maybe slightly kinda almost be actually worth it....with a part chance of raining meatballs.

(9.1k, and 5% chance to stick.)

    This formulas should be right:
To calculate your chance to trigger SoS: Chance to silence [%] = Soulforce x 3/5000
To calculate the Soulforce needed for a given chance to trigger SoS: Soulforce = Chance to silence [%] x 5000/3

You are right if you say you can't rely on this skill, but this skill can save your life in critical situations. If you are ganked by several mobs it triggers very often so you have more time to react (since it is a passive skill, it doesn't consume time). In instances like frostcovered city or rainbow gamma/delta you can increase the survivability of your cleric or mage. And in TW it can be nice at the catapult puller too b:bye

I've never really noticed how much MP it drains, but, I'd guess not that much, since whenever I cast it on a tank and the effect takes place, their bar doesn't go down much.

Nah you guys need to PK more, then you'll appreciate it.

Think about it: APS sins and BMs. They're super suceptible to getting hit with silence, especially since most just keep on meleeing you even when you have Psy will on. Saves me from them all the time. It's also a lot nicer when you've got the Sage/demon version of it: increased duration or increased chance of silence.

Plus I mean, a Psy with 33% silence chance would be absolutely sick.

I think he was talking about soul of silence

And Soul of Silence only consume MP upon trigger silence effect which is ~8% chance for me

It only consume ~300mp which is totally worth it and not that much of an mp consumption

yup, i was talking about SoS.
indeed, 300 is not a mp cost for me
but i've seen it cast on sins/bm pullers.. and 300mp is not exactly nothing for them xD

Always useful in TW though, where everyone's typically charmed. The barb I'm squaded with absolutely loves the two buffs.

I have 37,799 SoulForce and the Silence is 22.68%. I can tell you that in PvP, that is awesome vs 5aps sins and bms. Basically, they're getting silenced nearly every second so I have a chance to get out of stun and fight back.
