ok i just got into this clothing thing and the dyeing part stinks.
all i wanted to do is dye my shirt gray and the only colors u can get, that is a sure thing, is black or white.
why can't the game let u get the colors u want and be satisfied with that. instead of making u spend more than u need to.
all i want to do is dye my shirt gray.
is there a way to do it with out taking a gamble other than trying to find it in the market place?

Either gamble with the cash shop or try to find it in a catshop. Making you spend more money than you need to trying to get the right color from the cash shop is the entire point.

yeah it sucks. they are trying white and black in the boutique as they are the most popular judging by market price. if it pays off for them they may add the other colors to the boutique

remember to check out the AH for pigments also

Black and white dyes will only be available for a limited time. I doubt very much they'll make specific colors available through the boutique...

Honestly, I think they would make a lot more revenue by putting all the dyes in the boutique permanently. The only /real/ people who buy pigments from the boutique is people who want to sell them for profit. Yes, people will be buying less of the random pigments and hot colours packs, but if they would take those out and replace them with the actual pigments for 2 gold a dye, and with how much dye it takes to actually dye something, think of the money they would be making on it.
Let's say there's 150k people that actually play this game. (I'm estimating... I have no earthly clue how many people play this game). And out of all those people, only 1/8th of the PWi population buys dyes out of the boutique to sell to players. That's 18,750 people. Let's say they all charge 50 gold every month to get 26 random pigments. That leads to almost 1,000,000 USD. One MILLION dollars a month. I'm not sure how they divide it with taxes and stuff, so we'll just stick with that price.
Now, let's take a situation where they decide to put in all pigments for 2 gold each. 150k players, of course, and let's say about 3/4ths of the players want to dye their clothing with boutique pigments. That's 112,500 people, and we'll say that the average outfit costs 10 pigments to dye. So far that's 1,125,000 dyes sold, and like I said, 2 gold each. That is 2,250,000$ profit.

My math may be wrong, and the numbers will definitely be wrong. But if I hit the ballpark for average numbers, it shows that they'd make more out of selling pigments directly than random pigments.
This of course only works if:
    A. No one other than merchants buy random pigments, save a few 5,000 people.
    B. People actually buy the pigments from the boutique.

I think it'd be worth a shot to test the waters like they did with white/black pigments. Add all the colours into the boutique and see how much of a profit they make from it as compared to random dyes.

Not NEARLY as much as BOI though.

The only thing PWI really has as a gamble would be packs and refining (and some other boutique related stuff).

In BoI it's everywhere. Leveling your mount, upgrading your pets, upgrading you gears, opening a pack reward from a daily event, tons and tons of packs in the CS, hell even the best pets are a gamble (kill a boss for the >1% chance to tame it, open a $0,75 pack for a >1% chance to get a pet).

ive only dyed fash twice, and it was a single-dye job at that (minxxi miniskirts both times) so i'm a little unsure how it works for the other fash that requires alot more dyes, can you mix&match pigments and get a completely custom colour or no? if not, they should do that, then you could just get say 5 black and 5 white for an article that needs 10 to dye and presto u have grey.
