Hey everyone :) I was wondering if either a Shaodu Cub or a Dark Wanderer would be better at holding agro (arcane build veno) at later lvls for quests/grinding and possibly instances? And what about a wolf? Would any of these pets be better if I upgraded their skills at the Zoologist? Theres no way for me to get a herc so that option is out for me. Thanks for your responses!

BTW: I'm only really wanting one ground pet if at all possible.

Wanderer has killer damage per second stats, but iirc the cub makes for a better tank because of survivability.

In my opinion, keep the Dark Wanderer (it rips quest mobs to shreds with its high damage) and if you can't get a Shadou Cub, get a Glacial Walker (also has high damage, decent defenses). Wolves have pretty high attack yet low defenses so I'd stick with the Dark Wanderer.

So I'd say keep the Dark Wanderer levelled and get a Glacial Walker. Although there are alternatives like the Eldergoth Marksman (ranged puller/tank, etc.).

If you're only going to get one land pet (which i do consider a sane choice) i would recommend the Wanderer because of it's high damage output. It should be able to handle most odd tanking jobs such as minibosses since the actual need for a tanking pet is sometimes overrated although one of these should come useful as a back up. Do add Bash to the Wanderer and try keeping up to level. Also level up your pet res, with only one pet it should come in handy to do so.

@EsdianK; There's really no need to replace a Walker's icicle, you can also add Bash if you want- If i'm not mistaken the Walker comes with three skills and all pets can get four- I would rather recommend you to invest on keeping it leveled, although Bash is usually a can't go wrong addition to any pet.

    To OP:
Hm id say Wanderer too for the same reasons stated here. It has a very high attack and decent def and hp. Id get a Tanker, DD and puller pet as soon as you can so you can level them with your Quest mobs...i so regret beeing lazy because now i have to level 3 new pets by 10-50 levels, keeps me busy since weeks.b:chuckle

    To Esdian:
On a Walker id defnitly add Bash, but i wont let it forget Icicle if you dont need the slot.
I wouldnt level Icicle i tried letting my walker tank with useing only Iciclylv2 and then with just useing Bash lv2 against a lv 66 Archer (hes lv 63). To make a long story short Bash>Icicle. :(
Then again if you have Icicle, Roar and Bash the Walker can hold aggro very well.

Flesh Ream is also a nice skill to add. If you feel that having an elemental bash and a normal bash at the same time is a waste, teach it Flesh. It generates great aggro (more than Bash but the major drawback is that it can't be spammed due to the longer cooldown) and the bleeding effect comes in handy.

    EDIT:
On a side note, don't forget that elemental bashes will help you against elemental mobs. Venomancers deal only Wood elemental damage so a fire element bash would come in very very handy against a metal mob (wood is weak against metal) or a water element bash against a fire one etc.

In my opinion, I'd give the normal Bash to the tank pet along with Flesh Ream and Roar (the last spot should be Tough) If it's a Shaodu Cub you'd have to choose between flesh and roar because removing Pounce woulld be silly.
To the DD pet I'd give an Elemental Bash, Howl (decrease target's magic defence), Flesh Ream again and the last one either Shriek, Threaten or another elemental bash (of different element)..

I've been meaning to re-test now that my pets can have level 5 versions of the skills. But in the previous aggro tests I did, aside from the differences in damage, all pet skills generated pretty much the same amount of aggro at the same level.

Hmm, I can see two contradictory lines of thinking on this:

    • Give your pet the fire elemental bash. You do less damage against wood mobs, so the pet can help make up for that by doing more damage.
    • Give your pet the poison (wood) elemental bash. Earth mobs are weak to wood damage, and so you are much more likely to pull aggro off your pet when fighting earth mobs. By giving your pet a wood damage bash, they will also do more damage against earth mobs, thus reducing your chances of stealing aggro.

I suppose you could give your pet both...

I see. Thank you for the info b:victory A lot of people have been saying that so I ended up believing the same because of its bleed effect and also because I was never good in maths in order to do the calculations.
Either way I think Flesh is a nice skill to have.

I'm not sure what exactly you meant about the contradictory parts b:surrender but a pet with two different elemental bashes sounds nice, I like playing with the elements b:laugh

I purchased a Bash Scroll and wanted to let me scorpion I first got with it... but I have not been able to figure out how to learn it. I went to pet trainer in Lost City and tried with zoologist and have not figured it out. Anyone out there know what I am doing wrong?

If you already have "bash" on the pet then you don't by a "bash" scroll. The bash scroll only teaches the 1st level of bash. To raise the skill in any skill you already have, you purchase same scroll (I don't remember the name but it costs 200K).

Also, you have to have the pet summoned.
