How do you split stacked items?

Say i bought 20 pots, 10 for me and 10 for a friend, i wanna split 10 for each, but they're stacked. How do i split them?

    hold down the alt key. click and drag a pile you want to split to an empty slot on your inventory or safe (if the items are stacked there) and a box will come up asking you the amount you wish to split off
