Barbarian Gear Progression for levels 30-70

I'm now to PWI and playing my first character (barbarian).

I've seen a lot of discussion about high level gear where people are crafting their equipment (molds, refining, shards, etc.). I've also seen comments that low level/mid level gear does not matter because one passes through those levels so quickly. However, I'm not leveling up all that fast. I'm a causal gamer and have progressed to level 34 in about 7 weeks. At the rate I play, it will be a long time before I have to think about end game gear. I'm having fun and learning how to play my character.

I'd like to make the most out of whatever level I'm at.
With that in mind, what do you recommend I do for gear?

Should I just trade up to a better gear from NPC's as each gear becomes available?
Just use quest rewards and mob drops?
Are there specific stuff I should be looking for at CAT shops and the AH?

What's a cheap (no cash shopping)/slow leveling barbarian suppose to do?

Quest rewards are usually pretty good up to the 60's. Even at lvl 70 I used quest reward pants. also check ah regularly for gear with good adds, such as hp, vit, str, dex, accuracy, phys damage. Lower lvl gear in ah will be pretty sparse, so feel free to fill in with mob drops. You could also work on crafting, or gather mats and let somone craft for you, as crafted items have a chance for adds and extra quality (two and three star items).

Also, leveling gets faster when u start to get bh daily quest and don't forget to at least do your crazy stone daily while its cheap at lower lvls.

Honestly until about lvl 60 or 70 just shard your best stuff with whatever shards u find. About 60 check ah for average common citrines, beautiful in 70's, flawless in 80's etc...

Onaments, get either magic or phys defence, avoid evasion orns unless they have killer stats.

Refine starting around 60 but just to +1 or so, that's cheap and easy. You can start refining more when your gear begins to gain value, such as molds or tt gear.

Its not a bad idea to craft your own gear at the tailors etc right from the get-go. If memory serves Fuzzy right, the mats the drop to enable you to level each crafting skill become fewer and farther between as you grow in level.

It seems that if you ignore crafting anything until level 40+, the stuff to make level 2 tailor skill will be harder to get your paws on. You can always buy from other people but the drop rate decreases. So get on them skills early. More often than not the armour and weapons and ornaments you craft will be pretty decent to use at the lower levels.

btw: not sure if the change in drop rate actually is effected by level, but it SURE seemed that way to Fuzzy.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain it is. At 7x I needed compound oil for crafting, and went to Dawn's Cry Isle to grind on those spiders and mantises for them... wasn't fun at all. I'd be getting hardly any drops while the 5x questers seemed to be getting lots of them b:surrender The majority of the oils I ended up with were ones that the other people didn't bother to pick up b:thanks

PS: Your posts are always entertaining to read, Fuzzy b:laugh

Yes, there is a tiered level range that effects drop rates. The closer to the mobs level, the the higher the drop rate. Also, higher lever mobs in general have lower drop rates just to **** us higher level players.

Oh well, you can check out the drop rate formula here.
