In early to mid-game archers are pretty darned good. They start to lose their edge in the 70's unless they spend lots on refines.

Barbs don't really shine, from what I've heard, until late mid-game and end game...at which point they are pretty boss.

So it really depends on whether you are playing for long term or just a fly-by-night player.

I disagree barbs are fine throughout the game, but I somehow never lost to an archer, and my barb is a PVE character. I always mighty swing and flesh ream on them... Though it is duel, archers never really hurt my barb... even with their metal attacks and I have very low M.DEF on my barb (protection necklace/belt and heavy armor). I'm not even 70 yet. Mighty swing and flesh ream have 100% accuracy, so it does help a lot against high DEX opponents.

I even remembered cutting a 5x archer's HP in half when my barb was still 4x with flesh ream, devour and firestorm stacked... was testing the DOTs, it was pretty nasty with stacked DOTs in my opinion. I dish out more damage to them than they do to my barb.

But I do agree that archers are pretty good. They can hurt heavies (unless HP too high) or arcane

    Yulk can be ignored.

Pre-77, for the most part archers will have the upper hand unless you stat extra dex and use bloodbath. Once you can use misties on a barb, you pretty much nullify archer evasion. After that, it's just a matter of getting your HP up to decent extent, which is something you should be capable of in the mid-80s.

Once you have that and a charm, all archers can really do is hope for some high-end crits on their metals against you.

Of course, later on you'll have to deal with things like purge bows and the occasional 5.0 clawcher, but by that point in time you should be skilled enough to know how to work around those for the most part.

Depends alot on levels and the skills of both toons. Till 60 our defenses don't match the archer's offenses, they stun -> slow -> metal attack -> phy attack -> simple arrows to finish it off.

Once we get our TT armors we close in the gap by quite a bit and at 70 we'll have our BB maxed and with mistys we'll not miss anymore. But thats barely the point. The real counter attack is actually running towards them.

I've seen barbs at 70s simply get shot with a metal attack for 1.5k and think they'll lose the match. Or simply use Invoke for no reason whatsoever. Archers aren't elemental, only have a few skills that do metal damage, and they aren't enough to kill a barb. Once the barb runs towards them the archers' p attacks won't even scratch. And if the archer fails to stun the barb again then he'ld be going to town even if the barb is left with 2k hp.

Even if the archer gets a purge bow at 95 he/she wouldn't still be able to make a huge difference unless the bow is heavily refined.

TL;DR version: Archers are p attack based, and ranged p attacks don't bring a barb down after 70. A well-refined bow is the only way to kill a well-geared barb.

I did 2 dual before against archer

1st archer was in a dungeon, close in with tiger form and start flesh reaming till win.

2nd archer.. start running the moment duel start and fly off.. chase him with a my beetle all the way.. and he is acting too much like a mob.. flying and kiting me.. till i accidentally lose him and ended in a draw.

so ya.. archers are okie to me atm..

Fuzzy generally find a mix between violent triumph and/or vac powder+ holy path to get right in their face usually does the trick.

Once you all up in their grill and start swinging away, most don't even get the chance to try and kite.
