Hi everyone,

I'm a new venomancer and pet food is quite expensive for me. A friend told me I could equip a tome so my pet wouldn't go hungry anymore. Is this true and where can I get such a tome? Which one would be the cheapest to obtain?

Thank you in advance for your help~!

Yes and no, The tome will prevent the pet from getting hungry over time, but if it dies you'll still need food to recover lost loyalty. The cheapest tome will most likely be a Christmas Tome.they usually sell for right around a million coins.

I've been wondering about that, too :-)

Still, why do you think food is expensive? All you need is "Pure Water" --- the other stuff is just a waste. You got 200 of these from one of the early quests, and these should last quite a while. They cost 52 gold a piece and last for something like 5 minutes or so --- by the time the 200 initial waters are gone, getting 52 gold from monster drops doesn't take anywhere near 5 minutes.

In fact, I find it a convenient rule to feed the pet to max once, and then just feed it whenever the icon turns green. It's a slight waste of water, but the color change is easier to spot than any timer. Again, water is incredibly cheap once you get past the early levels using your 200 water.

Remember to stuff your pet away when you don't need it.
Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng

Keep in mind though that a herc and a nix can only be fed specific things which can range in price from 5k-20k each. Though, since the OP is a new veno she probably doesn't have this problem. lol

Pet food quickly gets cheaper. One of the early quests gives you a lot of pure water which helps a ton at the level you get it. By the time it runs out you'll be around level 20 and more able to afford it. For me, after I burned through the free water I spent what was a lot of money to me buying water again around level 20. After that the expense never even made a difference to me.

After I got a tome though, my feeding habits changed. Rather than carry hundreds of pure waters, I simply carried a smaller number of sesame oils, and still do to feed my non legendary pets when they die.

Anyways, a level 1 tome will run you 3 tome fragments and 4 tome pages which at current prices would be about 1.8 million (4 gold+240k at dw prices). A christmas tome used to go for 1 million, I'm not sure what they go for anymore since I doubt very many enter the server these days.

Christmas tomes have gotten pretty cheap - so that's likely your best bet. I was seeing them 600k or so for a while, but I haven't looked recently.

When using a tome it's often easy to forget what a nightmare it was to continuously feed your pets... IMO a tome is one of the most important things every veno should get regardless of wether you're using legendary pets or not. Christmas tome is likely your best bet, the cash shop tome being absurdly expensive for it's limited duration. If you're going to use zhen for one thing at al this should be it.

I agree with you completely. As far as the fun I had playing the game goes, I got far more enjoyment out of a tome than out of a legendary pet even. I didn't get my tome until the low-mid 60's, had I known what a difference it would make, I probably would have bought the gold to get one much earlier. It really does change things for a veno.

I bought a tome shortly before the recent update. And at the time I didn't know it stopped hunger. I thought it was a bug lol. It was a Red Lotus..I think 3mil.

Ah I like having my pet out without worrying about feeding it every 5 minutes.

Thank you all for your wonderful feedback~! You've been very helpful. I indeed don't have a legendary pet but I intend to obtain one someday (one can dream...) so the food costs would go through the roof. I really like having my pet out even when I'm just lingering but of course budget-wise that's not very smart. I'll try to learn to stow it away when I''m not using it. I'm glad food costs aren't that bad. I don't mind feeding my pet to increase loyalty, just find it slightly annoying to keep an eye on the timer at all times. I know...bit of random whining because feeding the little critter is the least I can do...

Thanks once more for the nice feedback ^__^ friendly community~

I bought my Christmas Tome for 720k which wasn't a bad deal. I would of course like one of those Vit + Mag ones but I don't have enough money for those ones. And really, +1 Crit rate isn't bad. :)

FYI I dont know if there's other ways to get the Christmas tomb but they do come from the level 80 supply stash which is why you need someone to sell you one. Because I'm mainly a support char I didnt need my tomb, which only gives 1% crit and nothing else, so I palmed it off on my veno. A perfect iron hammer costs 5 gold, which at current HL prices is about 2mill. Maybe ask in faction if some 80+ is not planning on getting their supply stash because I know among my friends many havent because the cost for that tomb aint worth it. Then try and buy a cheap hammer for them to open it for you, but obviously make sure you trust them very much.

(I wont go on about how i had no money when I saw a perfect iron hammer for sale for 750k in arch a couple days ago dammit)
