Yup, those packs bring out the gambling addict in me and always leave me with devastating and disappointing results. PWI have managed to get about $700-800 out of me from these packs since they came out and after last night, when I spent $100 just to get Tokens and Plat.Charms I finally decided enough was enough. I got my scissors out and cut my card, removed the card ID from paypal and now PWI can't use my "ohh just one more pack" addiction to get money from me. b:bye PWE's cheap and desperate marketing technique has left me wondering if I actually still want to play this game.

Am I the only one that had this problem?

Packs keep coming back, so something makes me think you're not the only person who's dumped massive amounts of real money into them. Rest easy with that tidbit of information... until your bill comes in the mail.

No. I myself haven't bought any packs yet, but I know that merchants sell hundreds of packs each day per server. Combine that with the amount of packs that are bought directly and I think you know what I mean.

I would find it much worse if they would use the "pay us 25$ per month cos else your damage will suck your xp will suck your defence will suck, short: you will suck untill you pay us 25$ a month" strategy.b:surrender
Its usally called Premium Membership and costs more monthly fees then a p2p mmo which mostly offers more content, better graphics and support.
In this game i could charge only 10 gold every 2 month and still save up alot to get all the gears at some point while still spending way less then for a p2p. I find that is quite fair.
Regarding the best of the best gears: Even in p2p games there is gear for which you need to play 1-3 years to get it and have to be very dedicated to it.

I learned my lesson. Never got anything but tokens, so now if I buy them I just take the tokens and store them up for my Warsoul :D

Oh and anybody who has any extra tokens I'll take them >_>

I don't know, I admit I feel kinda guilty sometimes.

For example, I know that Cube boxes are worth exactly 100k, since the Gold ones pay 1 million 10% of the time and the Platinum ones pay 5 million 2% of the time. Yet the Gold sells for 200k and the Platinum 400k.

Why? Because people have an irrational gambling addiction.

So yeah, I'm feeding their addiction and taking their money from them because they can't think rationally. Their inability to control their emotions is what makes for a profitable business transaction for me. But then I remember that this is just a video game and my guilt complex goes *poof!*, because every penny that goes into the game is already money that's been spent on entertainment alone.

I spent around 500$ when Anni packs first came out. Out of 600-700 packs i never got anything but tokens a few best of luck and a charm. I haven't charged irl money for any type of packs since than which I'm very happy for. Just a crappy way of wasting irl money on over priced tokens. If i want something from packs i just buy the item from another player.

People that get rare items are either incredibly lucky or they already opened thousands of packs in my experience b:surrender.

I think if i actually got something nice back than from all the Anni packs i probably be torturing my credit cards still and buying more. You need to at least get something half decent out of 200-300 packs to keep the interest up. If you always only get tokens, than you will stop buying them. Just looking at packs will end up in a financial disaster for majority of PWIs players b:cry

    no more packs (tokens yay)
no more gambling for a good skill on token-skills (turn 6mil coin into a skill worth 1mil GZ)
no more opening cube stuff thinigies (1coin always anyways)
no more jolly packs or similar stuff (already learned my lesson here and bought as many as i could afford, sold them unopened, they were always gone by the night)
unfortunally i spend all the munies on number 2 and a nirvana key for 3 mil (accident)

i further noticed people rarely buy gambling-**** at *day* times
but in (my) nighty-sleepy-time they are all gone by the next morning...

Works for almost every item. My timezone is GMT +2. If I set up my shop at 10:00 when I wake up and go check it at 24:00, almost nothing has sold. When I go to sleep and wake up, I might have sold everything.

You do realize that every pack that's created in the game was paid for by $1 somebody paid to PWE at some point? So yes it's happening in RL, and yes they've gotten a bunch of game addicts and gambling addicts enslaved to the game.

Unfortunate but true. UO had a skill-based system and was only moderately successful. It was quickly eclipsed by EQ which had a level-based system, and was wildly successful. W** also has a level-based system and is wildly successful. The leveling is what gets you addicted. "Just one more % exp." "I gotta hear that ding." "Next level I can use that neat new skill/equipment!" A friend and I were lamenting the dearth of casual MMORPGs - ones where you can play just a few hours a week without "falling behind" all your friends who play more often. Nearly all the games that are out now are designed to appeal to the worst parts of human nature, because that's what keeps people playing and the money rolling in.

Anyhow, to the OP: Congratulations on breaking the cycle.

when i was playing the pw-my server, i have tried many of different types of packs, only to get mirage stones and lvl 7 shards. i learned my lesson over there.

although i have not spent anywhere near as much as the OP did on packs, i have not yet opened 1 pack here. though it does make me wonder what my chances are, but im usualy not a lucky person, so id rather save my IRL money with the chance of possibly being poor-er in game lol.

Given that I knew the odds from the start, I never wished to gamble (I am not fond of it IRL anyway). I am glad I did not.

It's not even about luck (unless you hit the jackpot on your first tries), it would depend on the number of packs you would buy and open... (thus how much you directly or indirectly spend). It's quite insane when you think of it.

    Take care.

Ever since I came back from my break, I never spent money for gold and never opened a pack again. lol. During my break, I pretty much learned my lesson - I could of bought many goods irl, I kinda regret it now. :(

Just looked at this, and did a facepalm really. Look, I'm all for hobbies. I myself love to read, and spend a couple bucks on the books I like. However; spending nearly a grand on THIS game in particular, tells me that this isnt a hobby. It stops being a hobby where you spend your paychecks.

I dont know about YOU, but for people actually living on their own, I dont know anyone who can blow a grand like THAT. I'm not attacking anyone here, It's their money and they can use it how they want. Still, I feel that spending that kind of money is a bit extreme, Thats my opinion though and anyones entitled to their own.

I just hope people realize that hobbies arent worth going in the pit for. :)

I've spent around $700 on this game buying token packs. I've gotten 3 best tokens and a savant stone. I see the same people winning over and over. I'm starting to think its rigged. like maybe if u write them a complaining letter they turn off any luck you u might have. It's easy to do this game is just a spread sheet.
after winning those items the game forgot to give me a tt80 mold after i decomposed my tt70. i wrote a letter to the GM's that was not complementary because this was more than enough errors with real monies involved.(never did get a responce from the gm's on any ticket) After this I've tried to buy 100's token packs and got 0 nothing zilch.

I'm doing the same thing and PWI will no longer be on my list to spend money with.

One person I know has spent $50 and 3 months later there still buying packs in-game from selling items they have won. seems a little unfair don't it. Yesterday they bought 30 packs in-game and won 5 lunar items and announced 2 best luck tokens. How the hell is that fair to any of us. Duke isn't encouraging me to buy packs, just pissing me off at how rigged the luck in this game is.

all I'm after is a champ scroll and a lunar cape i could care less about tokens. and after spending this kind of cash they should just give me the damn items already.
