New Race Idea- Plant People

(Everyone interested in new race/class should also check out the Cursed Race thread. Some very talented people are doing a great job at fleshing that concept out.)
PWI needs more tanks and healers. I think most players will agree with this statement. More variety would add to the fun of playing. My idea is for a race of plant people, the Arborians. One class is a heavy melee class called the Treants. The other class are arcane healers either called vinelings or dryads. They would have to be wood element characters.
The Arborians
Treants (Tree people) - Tanks
Armor: Heavy - Weapons: pole-arms.
General skill ideas:
Root: Treants can increase their phy def at the cost of movement speed, like the Solid Shield Genie skill. Tree Form: the Treant transforms into a big tree monster. Speed is reduced. Defense is increased. Damage remains the same. Some skills are only usable in Tree Form.
Crush: the Tree Form Treant grabs an opponent, with their hand, and does DOT (damage over time) but cannot take any other actions until they cancel the skill or enemy dies. Player defense is lower while using this attack.
Poison Resistance: a general resistance to Wood based effects
Wooden Strike: the Tree Form Treant hurls a spear for distance damage.
Absorb Nutrients - Regenerates HP: works faster the slower the Treant moves. Passive skill.
Thorn Skin: enemies take damage when physically attacking Treants who use this skill.
Pollen Eruption: grabs aggro from a crowd of mobs and causes minor debuff due to sinus irritation.
Crumble: attack that weakens enemy defenses, extra damage to Earth mobs.
Wild Growth: active HP regeneration skill that uses Chi. Only works during daytime.
Oak Strike: powerful melee attack
Poison Weapon: self-buff that provides damage over time to physical attacks.
Bark Shield: Tree Form. active skill that increases another party member's defense while lowering Treant's defense.
Cloud of Sharp Leaves: aoe attack that slows opponents and lowers their defense.
Vinelings (Dryads) - Arcane Healers
Armor: Arcane robes - Weapons: standard arcane stuff (wands, patakas, staffs)
Healing spells: uses the regenerative magic of plants to heal instead of the divine magic used by elves. Heal over time based but also has an expensive instant heal.
Strangling Vines: the Vineling can cause vines to grow up from the ground and entangle an enemy causing movement debuff and DoT.
Camouflage: a stealth skill that only works if the Vineling stays absolutely still.
Poisoned Armor: buff that poisons enemies who physically attack player.
Insect Swarm: higher level debuff that causes damage over time.
Pollen Cloud: emits a cloud to surround enemy, causing lower accuracy and slower attack/cast rate. Or Budding: creates illusionary duplicates of Vineling, lowering opponent accuracy due to confusion about which vineling is the real one.
Spirit Mend: Vineling Revive skill.
Splinter Strike: physical ranged attack.
Burning Sap: slows target movement speed. Wood based damage.
Thorn Sword: buff that adds Wood damage to melee attacks. For self and party member.
Morning Dew: buff that delays the effects of magical attacks on self or party member for several seconds.
Fiberous Skin: buff that deflects some damage done to self or party member back to attacker.
Dark Heart of the Woods: Area debuff bubble that lowers enemy attack level and enemy defense. Drains both MP and Chi.
Rain of Spikes: more powerful Wood based damage spell.
Gift of Life: aoe healing spell that does a small amount of healing to everything in range, including mobs. Fast casting time and low MP.
Both classes might gain additional bonuses during daylight hours of game.
Aerogear could be riding on a leaf or using puffball-like wings. or those spinning seedpods or flower petals. They might be clumsy fliers as Metal is not their best environment.
Backstory: They could be a break away faction of Wraith or a force sent by the gods to assist the people against the Wraiths. A primeval force of Nature's living essence sent to repel the forces of the Wraith. The Arborians don't need their own starting point. They aren't an established culture of people like the Humans, Elves, Tideborn, or Untamed. They could easily start out in the City of Plume since the elves are great naturalists or the City of the Lost since it's so wild.
Appearance: They should both look generally humanoid. Their look is more wild and less refined. Maybe with leafy hair. Vinelings could have options for mossy hair or small leafs or vines or flowers. Treants could have bark-looking skin, some could have a pine needle look while others have broad leaves and maybe even cactus. Treants could look like big tree monsters when in Tree Form. Ideally, male or female could play either class. This could create the female tank some players have been asking for. Treants in humanoid form are only as big as Barbs, so they can still wear most fashions. They could simply just look like normal people but have leaves or needles or something for ears and greenish or brownish or grayish skin.

I guess you don't like sins.0 -
But then the Tree race would be the new sins xD[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

I don't understand how a healer and a tank would be the "new sins". That healer's camouflage skill is nothing compared to the sin's stealth skills. It would only work on mobs. It's meant to help low level squishy Vinelings survive. That skill probably becomes useless as they get to higher levels. The Tree Form of the Treants turns them into a big wooden monster, like the dryads or weezleboms. Anyone would have to be pretty stupid not to notice them. Neither class is a LA DD like the sins.0 -
Plant people? That's a very... interesting idea o.o0

we don't need another race... TB's have already taken over the world! and plants? really?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Thankiez to Dorset for the sig!

Healers and Tanks are the two most important characters in any party and I feel more variety would add to the enjoyment of playing. It's much harder to do any dungeon run without them. These classes are not over-powered. In fact, I tried to make them as balanced as possible so they could be challenging yet fun to play. Of course, whether or not the devs are inspired by these suggestions is another matter entirely. It is just an idea in a forum and I think it's pretty cool.0 -

So far that's the best race suggestion of the last weeks (that has been posted).
And thanks for mentioning the Cursed
The skills overall are pretty nice, some of them remind me of a certain other MMO though (and not only the MMO but also the strategy game) xD
Camouflage for example. Shadowmeld is such a nice skill =DBoth classes might gain additional bonuses during daylight hours of game.
That doesn't fit into the game though. The other races also have no boni at day/night times.0 -
If someone throws at plant at your face, you die, fun. It's not my job to shut you down on a suggestion. It's a pleasure, though.0

New race would be really exciting only if developers expand the map to give it a start City. I luv map expansions :P[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

clerics and barbs would have no place in pwi anymore, bms can tank aswell, psy's can save squad in emergencies, so why do we need more?b:cute would be cool to walk with leaves as ears and tree branches as hair and apples sprouting from our armpitsb:chuckle0

I guess we need sort kind of example how they looks like, so people not feel funnyb:surrender[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Armpit apples? Yummy!b:chuckle
These aren't meant to replace Barbs or Clerics. Did Sins and Psychics replace BMs and Wizards? These just offer more options, creates variety that adds to the fun of playing.
I copied "Dryads" search from Google, here's the image results page.
http://www.google.com/images?q=dryads&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=NpljTJOvNsK88gbrn-n9CQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CC0QsAQwAA&biw=1148&bih=654
I hope I'm not breaking any copyright laws by posting them as part of a results page. The Vinelings look like that.
Google "Treant" search:
http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&biw=1148&bih=654&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=treant&aq=f&aqi=g2&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
Of course, the Treants only look like big tree monsters when in Tree Form, otherwise they pretty much look like humans with leafy or piney ears and they can wear fashions just like the Barbs can. I'd like both classes to be available to male or female characters.0 -
Now i like these b:laugh
I seen some pretty good ideas on suggestion & fanatic forum, wish there a game with all of those races b:laugh
Maybe you can give something for their weapon instead the usual ones (i know people might complains of exclusive class weapon. Let's hope the dev can make weapon use able by any class )
Because seeing a wood people fight with axe is funny for me . . it usually for chop lumber.
Hmm maybe they can use boomerang (no ammo ranged ha ha archer will complains), whips (maybe from roots), giant tonfa, lance, wooden flute, for now these what i can think . .
I know some of the weapon said above may need dex but that because i think new classes have to be unique on status usage compared to older class. Like a ranged weapon that need magic not dex or melee weapon that need magic. (if i say vit how many hp would that class have ?)
Birds like to make their nest on wood, maybe these wood people able to call these birds as companion.
And i can't imagine the looks of bambo people . .[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Actually, I think it would be cool if the Arborian Treants specialized in pole-arms like spears and pikes and clubs. I don't see why they would need special weapons only they could use. The Tideborn have a very different culture that was separated from the rest of the world for a long time and they developed special weapons no one else had any experience with. The Arborians are just tree people, they hardly even have a culture or society. They exist to be guardians of the natural world which the Wraiths are threatening. Besides, it's just simpler if they use the existing weapon structures. But, I'm serious about the Treants specializing in pole-arms. Pole-arms are weapons mounted on long shafts of wood. You need good dex to use whips and neither of these classes need much dex. The Treants have a skill where they throw a spear, it could be a boomerang instead but it's not really a weapon that the player equips. They're a melee class and the other's an arcane class. Ranged weapons just don't work with those.
You have some cool ideas, they just don't fit with this concept.0 -

How about a race of pygmy jungle elves that use boomerangs, like an archer class. But, they can fight while mounted, with lance, and become tanks when fighting from a mount?0 -

Wow... scary.
As for OP, I feel that the Arboride family are enough of trees (put some kind of guardian spirit instead?)... and poleblades I don't really think it would fit. Probably another type of weapon would do.
Dryads is a nice idea. Ones a bit like Poison Ivy. That said, venomancers already have wood-related skills... But I see your suggestion brings more varied ones.Maintenance time. Please choose a line:
- When is it over? OMG I need my fix!! *super spazzing*
- Fix the damn bugs, dammit! I'm so angry! I'll quit!!
- New codes out there? I like free stuff~ *wink*
- When will we get new content? QQ
- Will we get sales? I got a ton of gold to spend.

Usually these threads aren't even worth a facepalm...
Threads like these, however probably impossible to implement, show some creativity.

nice and creative b:victory theres always gonna be that negative person saying something but the point is the idea and it was cool.
More to the game would be nice for those who just like to play for the content and i play all classes its good to try a different class out once in awhile to keep from capping out or being burnt out of the game.
love the idea b:victory0 -
the thread title made me lol, but this is actually one of the most creative yet realistic possible class addition that i've read on this subforum. plus you get cool points for laying out the skill requirements. i think that the devs should consider this0
