Okay i search the forums on the cat shop scams but did not a thread on the one i encountered. Im just wondering if this is bannable (if so Im sending the GMs a few screenshots)

Found a guy today selling yiyuan stones for 9800 coin and buy them for 14800 coin. I was smart enough NOT to buy from him. Instead I tried to sell him the ones i had in my bag anyways. When I place them in, everything looked normal. Then when I confimed the sale, I got a message saying 'sevice unavaible.' Obviously this is an attempt to get people to buy his extreemly over priced stones, to try and make a 'profit' by selling them back to him.

Im just wondering if this lowlife scammer can be ban before he can profit from his lies.

Heh I had the same issue with that on my sever too. I Reported it and sent a ticket but the player is still there of course after some one bought her tokens for 114k she put up a "normal" shop. Still think she deserves to get banned.. but not sure if they ban it. I hope it helps a bit.

Helpful hint: if somebody is buying an item for more then they're selling, they are at their computer 24/7 while that shop is up. Why?

You can't sell the item back to the player because they don't have the money on hand to buy it with. Technically, this isn't a scam, this is in place because it means people can AFK catshop and not have to worry about ending up with negative coins or some stupid **** like that.

It becomes a scam when this person is watching their cat shop and the instant they have enough money to potentially "buy" the item that people try and sell them, they leave shop, put the money in the bank so they are down to 0 coin once again, and then set up their shop again, meaning players will buy their items but cannot sell them back to the player.

Scam as it is, use your common sense. If somebody is selling an item for 9k and buying it back for 100k, it's probably a scam and to be perfectly honest... well if you were dumb enough to fall for it, it's your own fault.

Alts exist for a reason. You didn't ever consider these people probably had alts that buy their item from their shop, meaning they no longer have the money on the account cat shopping, then put that money in the bank on their alt?

    Tsk tsk.

That doesn't change the fact that you cannot set up a shop with less cash than the items you are trying to buy. the coin total turns red and you can't set up the shop. once you have she shop up, there is not a way to get rid of the coins you currently have that isn't through the sale of items. you can't trade once you are in catshop mode.

EDIT: I just went and tested. You CAN NOT Trade OR drop coins when you are in catshop mode. And since you cannot open a catshop that would create a negative coin balance, how would someone pull this off? They must be taking advantage of some bug to do it, who knows what it is though.

    Stuff

I did say that was a very, very basic example, didn't I? Merely showing you how it's potentially possible for people to set up this kind of scam, not exactly how it was done.

(Partly because the GMs would run in here and remove my post if I did state exactly how it'd done. Telling people how to abuse the game is a no-no. It's basic common sense.)
    It's basic math skills.

And, again, it's also basic common sense that stops you falling for this kind of easy to spot scam. If you fall for a scam like this, frankly it's your own fault and I have no sympathy for you.

By all means, report the scammer, but don't complain because you couldn't be bothered to sit and ask yourself "Is this guy seriously going to sell tokens at 10k and then buy them back at 500k...?"

Still trying to figure out how you set this up....

    scam_shop9164.jpg

So far none of the theories have worked.

Note, this was set to sell at 75k ea and set to buy at 250k ea. The 'Done' button will not highlight to click as long as the coin purchase number is red.

Most scams work by estimulating the victim's greed. It really comes down to basic common sense to figure out that if a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Now, take this scam as an example, someone is selling something at a lower price than they're buying. It is obvious something is wrong here. What do people buying think? That the guy who set up shop made a mistake? And what's their answer to that? Let's fleece this dumb **** before he realizes what he's done? LOL Come to me with an honest explanation for why a decent guy would try to buy from this shop and i'll have some simpathy for the so called "victims" of this scam...

Now, there are scams that truly abuse other players. I get especially mad at the people selling pet collars or quest aero at huge mark ups in noob towns, since new players have no way of knowing what the real value of this items is. Yes, the scam does rely on the ignorance of the target but in this instance is abusing llegitimate intentions.

Buyer beware. Back when CS was a common activity there were people who would sell the stones at a bargain trying to slip a higher priced one on the idea people would not verify the price on every single stone. It unfortunately made it a common thing for many people to price check every single item they were buying. And this is what you're suposed to do irl, so maybe scams do teach you valuable lessons. Are people running scams scum? Yes, but it is often the case that it's scum that fall for them. The scam the OP is describing falls in this category, it encourages you to take advantage of someone else to make a profit. No inocent explanation for this, people falling for this are greedy, abusive and, most of all, dumb...
