Super Walker Advice

NEW THREAD! I have a walk with icicle, roar, tough, and added pierce. I recently acquire a reflect scroll, and I am wondering what I should replace. Someone already said I should replace roar (the aggro), but I just wanted to get a couple more opinions to make sure. And just to make sure.. does reflect actually reduce the amount of damage the pet takes, or just returns damages back to the attacker?
Thanks,
GW

Reflect only returns Melee damage to the attacker; it doesn't reduce damage.
Don't bother putting Reflect on your walker. It only really shines when your pet is tanking bosses, and beyond level 50 or so, most bosses are impossible for a Glacial Walker to tank. Using Reflect on normal monsters is next to useless.0 -
That's interesting. I know quite a few people that use walkers as tanks at all levels....0

reflect does not reduce any dmg taken, its just like our bramble guard, only a little higher reflect dmg at lvl 5.
if you got reflect, you might as well spend the extra cash to make ur walker pro (pro besides herc anyways xD)
i would erase all skills first (except tough) and put: bash, flesh ream, tough (u already have), and reflect.
its not useless. its very nice to have, to be able to tank multiple mobs on ur pet, and u can heal w/o them coming to you (only melee mobs though, like herc), with bosses it reflects a LOT and can really help on dmg output. its your money dont let other people tell u what to do or not. if you wanna use it go for it, thats what those skills are for.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I would go with threaten instead of Ream or keep icicle, but yeah, what Vixter said.0

Yea what Vix said...it's really useful I find for grinding too...
before reflect, I used to be happily healing my walker, and the walker gets aggro of a passing mob without me realising, I heal walker, mob walks over to me, hits me over the head with its claws,

hmmm... wouldn't threaten reduce the effectiveness of reflect? If you reduce the amount of physical attack from the enemy, then you reduce the reflecting damage? Just a thought, I do agree that threaten is a great skill and I do have one in the bank.0

i imagine it would be a trade-off; threaten might allow you to slow down your healing enough to do some DD'ing of your own, or to get your pet healed all the way up. if i had both threaten and reflect, i suspect i'd use reflect all the time and threaten when my pet's HP dropped lower than i was happy with.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -

Of course, I do that too (don't have a Walker, though. I use a Magmite, Walkers didn't exist back then. Still the same thing).
However, Herculeses are used to tank bosses. Most bosses, even if they are much lower level than I am, crush my Magmite in no time at all.
However, Reflect is most useful on bosses. Bosses have a lot of HP so any added damage is great. Bosses dish out a lot of damage --- so reflecting a lot of damage is great. And last but not least, bosses dish out a lot of damage so you aren't casting a lot of DD spells since you're busy healspamming. So, great thing if the boss keeps damaging himself on the reflect. Thanks for the help, and please drop the items over there when you're done, thank you.
Basides, like all things cash, those skills are expensive. All in all, they are best used on a Herc...
Tanking bosses isn't about damage, it's the tanking part that determines success. Reflect doesn't help there, they will still crush the Magmite (or the Walker, they aren't THAT different) in no time at all. Which leaves you with some very expensive skill on a pet that can only tank normal monsters or bosses that have their drops penalized down to nothing --- if you actually wanted the drops from those low level bosses.Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng0 -
So much talk about reflect here, let me share what I learned:
In order for Reflect to be worth a skill slot: it has to do a LOT of dmg. In order for it to do a LOT of dmg, your pet has to be taking a LOT of melee dmg, or it's being used to hold aggro against a lot of mobs. The only pet that seems good enough to make this skill worth more than some common others is the Herc.
A pimped out Walker is a wanna be Herc but will never compare to a Herc. There are plenty of pets that can outdo the Herc at something. I strongly advise not to waste those skills on a dead end pet that will never be best at anything other than interfering with targeting.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -

I thought about threaten thinking precisely of improving a pet's tanking ability but you do bring up a good point. In truth the problem with reflect lies in improving a pet's tanking ability since reflect's damage won't do you any good if the pet goes down. Now, the only effective way i could imagine how to do this would be to go for further rare skills; Bless, Protect and Strong. In the meantime a little extra damage might come in useful so perhaps an elemental bash?0 -
Should mention that reflect on bosses is only really advantageous against [?] bosses. Against regular bosses (FB, BH), player damage will far exceed the little bit that reflect does, so it won't make that big a difference in your kill time or pet aggro.
Against regular mobs, I'm not sure they'll get enough reflect damage to make it better than simply adding an elemental bash to your pet's attack cycle.
Where reflect really shines on regular mobs is in allowing your pet to get aggro from multiple mobs without you having to target and pet-attack each one. Rather than luring one at a time, you'll get lazy and just send your pet into a pack of mobs. Spam heal til you're down to 2-3 mobs, then toss in the occasional nuke while healing your pet as needed. Not the best strategy (insta-luring with a zeal genie and killing one at a time is faster), but certainly handy in emergency situations.0
