Ok, heres what gone down.

After this weeks patch, i've noticed there has been far more lag spikes then before.
Not only that, but I have been disconnecting quite alot ingame (4 times today), asking a couple of freinds, they have all been disconnecting too.

This isn't normal in my opinion, since my computer runs the game at a good FPS.
Anybody else here been getting these Lag Spikes/DC's?

There is a possibility it's just your server.
I've been fine all night so far.

There was a point earlier today when the forums were slower than a week in the jail and half the servers had 3000ms pings.

It's fine now but it was a bit wacko jacko earlier.

    Regards.

It's most likely a problem with a routing point between you and the servers. Especially if you are a long ways from where the servers are. (i.e. Server is in California and you are way over in England or Germany.)

Yes, this is most likely the case. Anytime I am experiencing heavy lag or disconnects, I can run visual IP trace and see that there is a slowdown with one or more routers between myself and the PWI servers. ((% of the time it has nothing to do with PWI at all. One one rare occasion it was a problem with the IP that PWI is connected to and they announced it immediately that they were having an issue. (It was a DDNS attack if I remember correctly.)

For the technicaly inclined, open a Dos box and type in "tracert pwiserver address".

    Server Addresses:
    Archosaur (PvE) West	29000:pwiwest4.perfectworld.com
    Harshlands (PvP) East	29000:pwieast1.perfectworld.com
    Dreamweaver (PvE) East	29000:pwieast2.perfectworld.com
    Lost City (PvP) West	29000:pwigc3.perfectworld.com
    Sanctuary (PvE) West	29000:pwigc2.perfectworld.com
    Heavens Tear (PvE) West	29000:pwigc4.perfectworld.com
    Raging Tide (PvE) East	29000:pwieast3.perfectworld.com

29000 is the port used, you can just use "pwiwest4.perfectworld.com" for Archosaur for example.

For those not technically inclined... use VisualRoute.

It's truly amazing the number of people that blame PWI or the servers when, in fact, the problem has nothing to do with them at all.

Did you 2 even read my post? I rarely d/c on the same internet connection before the update. It happens maybe once or twice a month with hrs a day of playing. But I was kicked off 3 times within half a hr last night.

Then again, updates happen almost every week and network problems happen several times a year.

well unless the servers decided to take a move, im starting to dc a little more too. Before, DC was a fairytale, something that happened to others and never to me. Nowadays (last 3 months) DCing and lag spikes have become too common

I disconnected over 10 times last night in under a 30 minute period.... It could have been my internet connection but I doubt it. I will however look into it.

Note the first 2 posts above me. And no, I wasn't suggesting that it's some "plot". Yeah "PWE is d/c us on purpose so they can make more money", lolwut?

I'm suggesting that there might've been some setting or hardware changed on the servers, or maybe it could be the patch itself. There have been patches in the past that caused some player's game to crash more often while do nothing to other players. Same could happen where the patch affects how the game connects to the internet on some computer.

I have more lag spikes....DC'ing not so much....

But tbh I would rather DC then deal with the lag spikes b:sad

the memory leak is back again. unless you have a good comp after being logged in for a while the game will crash due to it eating up all your resources.

btw 8gb of memory makes it take a really long time to crash so you can either wait another 6 months for the leak to get fixed again or upgrade your comp.

Just because the connection between your computer and the wall is the same, it DOES NOT mean that your connection between the wall and PWI is the same. In fact, the direction your route takes changes regularly. Depending on your location there can be a LOT of hops between you and PWI. EACH hop is a potential problem that could randomly happen to your connection. I've seen the entire east coast of the US drops before because of a router in Atlanta falling over, being re-routed through Dallas and having that overload as well.

Just to make it perfectly clear.

YOU DO NOT HAVE A DIRECT CONNECTION FROM YOUR WALL TO PWI.

A lot can happen between you and the servers, and it usually does, especially if you're far away.

Yes, cannot forget about the memory leak. It's especially bad right after updates. I always make a habit of hard booting my computer after an update, before I play.

For those that don't know bout hard booting....

    1. Shut down computer.
    2. Remove power. (on laptops, remember to remove the battery.)
    3. Press and hold the power button for a period of time. (Desktops about 20 seconds is fine, Laptops I recommend a full minute.)
    3. Restore power.
    4 Boot up computer.
    5. Go make coffee. Give your system 5 minutes to fully boot. (Longer for older systems.)

Something that seems to help a little, occasionally, (usually after I've closed the client), I run a dosbox command. I've set up a desktop shortcut for it. the command string is "%windir%/system32/rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks" (without quotes of course) This clears out dll's and executables in memory that are no longer being used.
