Pole Weapon Build

Pole hammer nd pole axe are both from the hammer branch. The pole weapons are poleblade, pike, nd club.

If you want to go pure spear, go for it, I know an old friend friend that is pure spear. A simple built BM as 5 STR, 2 DEX, 3 VIT every 2 levels can have as much VIT as a barb. Unlike other weapons, if you were pure VIT on axe, you will have a little problem with accuracy, swords might not be able to use latest heavy armor unless you have STR additions in your cape, ring and tome. And ofc fists won't have enough for heavy armor. Spears can get the most VIT while decent enough accuracy

On another thing, you can still attack at range as a BM (I learned this) which makes kiters stop kiting you for good. Which takes spear / sword combo.
