Update question for GMs / Frankie?

I was wondering something.

Everyone was fussing about the single 1-star Dragon Orbs being on sale, but the 10-pack was not. So, you said that the sale would be extended and the 10-packs would go on sale too, next update.

My question is, why does stuff like this have to wait on official Wednesday updates? Could it not be fixed so that you (the GMs) could just change prices in the server at will, any time you needed to?

It seems to me this would make your lives easier, and ours too...

b:thanks

Carnica, I agree with your sentiment that it would make all of our lives easier if we could do this, but making on-the-fly changes like that are simply not possible, which is why bringing down the servers would be necessary for those prices to be changed.

Yeah, but when the goldmane lions went on sale, at the time said. They were able to change the cash shop.

    I blame lazy devs.

Thank you for the quick response, Frankie :)

In your position, I'd ask the devs to let me reboot the server(s) during some "maintenance window" (3 AM or something) - if a reboot is all that is required after you make your pricing changes...

    Something to think about!

I don't understand this to be honest, because there have been times where there wasn't a patch, but sales still started at 1am PST on specific items.

Unless something was coded in on previous patch for said item to change price and go in the sale section on X date..?

The Goldmane sale was set so that when a certain quantity was purchased, it would be removed from the shop.

Its not as if someone is manually flipping a switch to turn the sales on and off (although it would be nice if they could), they have to configure it during maintenance.

This might be something planned from the previous maintenace, so that the price would be reduced at a certain time.

Due to the fact that the item mall is a strictly ingame run service it just isn't possible to adjust things whenever you want without bringing the servers down.

This is why some/most games base their cash shop on an internet browser. for example, you open the mall and an instance of firefox/internet explorer/whatever you use opens ingame and the item mall opens. This way it could be updated whenever PWE wants to by only bringing down the cash shop temporarily.

This only requires purchased items to be moved to a temporary inventory or sent through mail. It would only pose problems with security, randomized colors from fashion, previewing fashion on your character, gold trading, things not running as smoothly aswell as a myriad of other problems which is probably why the developers went with the item mall system we have always used here.
