Herc or Barb?

Herc or Barb to tank your bosses? I personaly hate hercs, I am a barb of course and it is my job to tank, and it for some reason really ticks me off when some fat yellow sumo dude takes my job :(

N I wanna know what YOU think :D

    If it saves my repairs and does a decent job, let it tank. I'm there to save the squad in case the herc dies or whatever.

    Sadly, even when trying not to, I can and do often steal aggro from hercs.

    Lol i stole agro from an 83 herc with one non-agro skill in tank form with only one hit.....and trust me that guy had been bashing on the boss for quite awhile X3. But seriously if the herc can tank it then let him tank....Now there are certain bosses a herc is never gonna be able to take on....they just lack the hp and skills to do so....But minor bosses hell let em at em my repair bill is that much cheaper X3b:victory

    Probably a biased area to be polling - maybe ask in the veno forums or in GD and you'll get a fairer distribution. That said, I hate the jaundiced marshmallows and gladly show them up any opportunity I get. It's kind of a perverse pleasure, making a veno feel like their $200 sack of lard is wasted cash/coin.

    More to the point though, I share OP's sentiments: tanking is my job, let me do it.

    Posting in the Veno forum might yield biased answers as well. :P

    I don't mind herc tanking but as other barbs have mentioned I often steal aggro from them. It makes the kill kinda messy.

    However, I do appreciate some herc tanking in FCC. ;P

    When you get into TT and FCC the bosses require some different tactics. One of the common ones is the herc tanks boss slowly and the barb tanks the mobs the boss spawns. Then people pitch in DDing the boss in between mob spawns. Nice to have both.

    Also in these areas pets don't suffer damage reduction (is it 80% reduced?) like characters so hercs do a great job tanking because they basically do 5 x the amount of damage and can hold aggro better than normal in these areas.

    As a DDer myself. Todays barbs.... ummm..... b:shockedb:sad Sometimes the entire squad is having to damage modify so much it takes way too long. When the squishy DDers begin to rip aggro I step in and tank by damage. When 3 or 4 people in the squad can rip aggro from a barb it becomes ridiculous.

    However, I prefer a GOOD Barb to tank because then I can DD like crazy without worrying about stealing aggro from a herc. And a Barb can recover aggro before I die unlike a herc. Much more reliable and versatile this way and because people can DD things go alot quicker. No waiting for herc to get a headstart and then worrying about overtaking a herc that can't regain aggro very easily.

    Also depends on squad configuration. If a healer is there I would rather have whomever can hold aggro and survive tank. So I don't have to hold back.

    Some bosses can't be tanked by a herc, mostly because herc isn't affected by most things, like the bless effect from BB, can't be purified, etc.

    I think I picked the wrong answer by mistake.b:surrender Oh well.
    Throughout my gaming experience I did a lot of fbs/bhs/other bosses with a fellow veno with herc. Yes, I'm a barb. Depending on a situation, we would switch tanking. If I really wanted to, I would. But most of the time (when the 2 of us were squading), if it was plausible it was the herc that tanked. Why? Because I could be an extra DDer using my skills (I learnt when to use what in order NOT to steal aggro), because the veno liked doing so, or because of the repair bill. To this day I have herc venos being surprised at how well I work with the barb - herc duo. Once, for comparison, we did some TT runs with the herc tanking and then with me (barb) tanking. OMG!!! Yes, it is my job to tank, but the whole squad enjoyed it more when it was the herc tanking (cleric did not have to heal frantically, it went faster and I did not get half of my equipment destroyed).

    Meh, if herc can tank the bosses, w/e xD. But it won't matter which tanks as long as it gets done. I chose barb btw because not all the bosses the herc can tank.

    I'd be curious to see BM thrown in there.

    Barb by damage and aggro skills

    vs.

    BM by damage

    vs.

    Herc by dmg and aggro skills.

    Some people prefer a BM because it takes the risk out of the barb not spamming aggro enough.

    but BM can't snatch aggro right back when OP'd DDs steal from them. A herc may be able to possibly, but a Barb has a much easier time of it with FR -> instant aggro back on barb. Unless you've got a DD that is intentionally trying to steal aggro the entire time by demon sparking every chance they get (interval fist users, sins, etc). Cases like that I just let em keep the aggro.

    I'll let a Herc tank for me if I know them, But I refuse to let some random Herc veno tank, Seen to many Venos who got a herc from the start fail because they never learnt how to play their char

    But I am biased, I like tanking, It's the entire reason i'm a barb.

    A herc isnt really meant to replace a barb, its meant to replace a barb AND a cleric ijs,
    it makes it so [?] bosses can be tanked easily by a herc and keep aggro, due to its damage not being nerfed,
    but ive found a barb can only take aggro off a herc on [?] bosses by reaming or w/e, wheras a demon sparking bm/archer/sin takes aggro far quicker and more easily cos of the aps from a herc.

    however for bosses, why does a herc veno need a barb or cleric...? just go solo and let the squads spam world chat for a barb for an hour >:O!

    of course id like a barb to tank some things pre 9X on in the game, but end-game there are more options as other classes mature, and a barb's role as the only tank class becomes a lot less dominant.


    tt bosses = herc for most bosses, but barb for some, ergo wurlord, the ape etc although ive seen a bm with like 6k hp tank wurlord 2-2, 2-3 ._.


    but after playing my own barb, and being married to a herc veno, id much rather she tanked all the bosses she can to give me a rest it relaxes my repairs a lot and we dont need to search for a cleric constantly to tt.

    It doesn't matter, as long as either one can tank efficiently...

    BTW, I love how ppl say things like "It is my job..." Chill out, it is just a game

    I'd rather a barb tank in some instances but I don't mind letting veno's tank in FC the Assassin usually takes it aggro and tanks ...and bosses die in like what? 15 seconds....b:laugh
