I was hunting neach arch and my pet was at 550+ loyalty. Then not five min later it was at 250 and it never got close to dieing. Then later on it went from 250 ish to 50 in about 5 min again. Is anyone else having this problem?

if you dont have a tome then you have to feed pets every 5 mins or so

I understand that, but why would it lose 250ish loyalty in 5 min.

The hungrier your pet is, the more loyalty it loses every 5 min it goes without being fed. You can tell how hungry it is by the color of its picture (in the circle next to its hp bar).

The most loss I measured was 100 per 5 min at dark-red. But I didn't have the patience to sit there and let it starve for longer so it's conceivable that there's a color below dark red where it loses 200 loyalty a pop.

Go to the pet manager and buy as much pure water as you can. Feed this water to your pet until it reaches full loyalty. Just double-click the water in order to feed.

Once your pet has been fed to max loyalty, you will notice that every five minutes its avatar will turn green. Whenever this happens, you need to feed it another water.

Also, put your pet away whenever you are not using it, especially if you go away from the computer. This way, it will not get hungry, so it will not lose loyalty.

Or just buy a few sesame oils, 10 at max. Each gives 100 loyalty so it'll bring your pet back up to 999 in no-time.

Yeah, if you're trying to recover a lot of loyalty all at once, the oils are better. But for regular feeding, pure water is the way to go, as it saves money.

If you pay attention to what your pet's information bar tells you, then you would see that at each stage of hunger on your pet it has different information. When you pet reaches a stage that isnt green or better yet blue, then it is hungry. If it is hungry hovering your mouse over the yellow or red image will show that the pet will lose loyalty until it is full again. You should NEVER NEVER NEVER let your pet get hungry. It's irresponsible. Feed you pet til its full and then feed it every five minutes while it's summoned.

Do as the earlier posters have said and buy tons of waters and just feed those once you get the loyalty back up to 501+.

And if you have trouble affording that all the time (although being a veno this should not be an issue) then invest in a tome. Then you will only need to feed your pet to get its loyalty up if it dies and to make it full the first time. Then it will never be hungry again.
