Wanna Move Forward Pressing UP arrow key

Okay, why are the UP and DOWN arrow keys hardcoded? Is there a way to bypass this? I have played hundreds of games and never once have I used the WASD keys to move. I can bind strafing to the LEFT and RIGHT arrows, but I can't bind FORWARD and BACK to my habitual UP and DOWN arrow keys... this game looks great but if I can't do this it's a deal-breaker and that makes me a saaaaaad panda :(

Any suggestions? (serious ones, like how to edit the .key file in my config settings or something?)

It is because they are used for flying to climb and descend.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

They made it forward and backword movement bound to the WSAD keys because when you are playing, the shortcut keys for attacks are basically RIGHT above those keys. If you play using the arrow keys, you have to have faster fingers, due to having to move the whole way across the keyboard to press a simple attack key.

So far, none of you have had anything constructive to say.

Anyone have anything USEFUL to say? And it shouldn't be a "bannable offense" to customize your control arrangement... that's just ignorant.

It IS a bannable offense, though. You're stuck with the WASD keys.

Actually they've got it so you can bind to ALMOST any key... EXCEPT the key I use.

And it would appear that by changing keys, the same game file would be automatically edited.

Yesterday I entered a very descriptive support ticket regarding this issue, which I consider a serious design flaw.

Almost every other game I play allows for movement using all 4 arrow keys. And regarding flying and ascending and descending, they have figured out OTHER ways to do it instead of hard-coding the arrow keys. After all flying and running move the exact same way (forward, backward, left, right).

I also suggested they separaate strafing and turning left/right. These are not mutually exclusive. We need to be able to do both, not just one or the other.

Which leads me to the "Move Back" function. PWI has it as "turn around and head back". That just doesn't make sense. Just like in real life (and other games), it should cause us to literally "back up". Otherwise there's no way to kite mobs, or cast a spell, back up, cast again, rinse and repeat.

I hope PWI is taking this seriously.

Why would you even want to use the arrows anyways? Your hand would be far from all your hotkeys.

Do you guys only have one hand?

Cuz I'm pretty sure I have two. You're right hand on the arrow keys. You're left hand on the hotkeys duh.

You can move around and still have your hand on the attack buttons. So for classes that CAN move while attacking they can run AND still attack.

Here's a serious suggestion for you. Search before posting. This has been discussed before, more than once.

I used to be an "arrow keys for movement" person myself but over time, I got used to WASD..... why can't you?

Actually, in the games where you use the arrow keys you don't need to rotate the screen. The down arrow makes you walk backwards not turn around and run the opposite direction. There is a camera option in the game that tells the camera to follow the character. So the only time you would need to rotate the camera is if for some reason you want to look behind you then you could just hit the auto run button and then use the mouse. Again not needing to move your left hand away from the attack buttons. It works quite well considering that that's how one of the top MMORPGS out there does it that way and millions of people worldwide play it lol.

But in all honesty, it didn't really take that long to get used to using wasd keys. I only very rarely find myself forgetting and trying to go foward with the arrow keys. It did take getting used to but it's really not a big deal and for this games key setup and camera options it works just fine.

I wasn't really posting as a request to get arrow key movement. Was just pointing out that you wouldnt be moving your hand back and forth on the keyboard. Just your right hand from the arrows to the mouse. Your left hand is still always on your hotkeys.
