Should I start making stuff to increase Blacksmith skill level? How do you increase other manufacturing skills?

You increase your skill by crafting with that skill.

    Blacksmithing you craft weapons

    Tailoring you craft armor

    Apothecary you craft potions

Craftsman you craft ornaments (necklaces and belts)

Once you have crafted enough items to have reached 100% of that skill level you must talk to the elder and choose learn manufacturing skill. It will then allow you to learn the next level of any skills that you are able to upgrade.

For lvl4 of crafting skills (except apothecary) there is a quest you must complete to earn the intermediate skill book that is required in your inventory in order to learn that lvl of the skill. For apothecary you just have to go buy the book from the npc that sells in the outskirts of dreamweaver port.

The quest giver for the lvl4 skills is the elder.

That is going to waste a lot of time and/or money. What little I've observed so far in the manufacturing menus at vendors suggests that lots of ingredients are required for even simple crafting.

How crucial are these skills for a Veno? I almost never use pots, hardly ever buy weapons & armor and never buy ornaments.

They are crucial if you want to make your own gear/remedies. They aren't crucial if you have someone else make them. Where you are now, you upgrade weapons and armors ever so often. When people get to higher levels, specifically at 60, 70, 80, 90, 99, and 100, they tend to start upgrading their gear more as upper levels are granted access to more game content, which is where players want more performance out of their gear. In my own opinion, I'd say leveling your manufacturing skills are not the highest of your priorities, but should be considered. Venos are a very versatile class so you may switch between different sets of gear and you solo things a lot. Having those skills allows you to make your own gear without needing to look for someone else to do it for you.

I started leveling my skills from the get go so it has cost me zero money. I gather everything I see on the ground and store it in my bank. When I start to run out of bank space I take the mats to the different crafters and make stuff until I've used it all up. I have lvl4 of tailor, blacksmith, and apoth. I neglected craftsman a bit so thats only lvl 3 atm. I rarely used the pots and things I made with apoth so that won't be getting leveled anymore. I jus sell all the herbs I gather for profit.
