Which veno is right for me?

Ok! So now that i've gotten to 7x and doing nothing but finding my gear and sharding it to death; i've decided to make an alt to play on those days where i feel like a little break from my cleric, but still want to spend some time online. I want to try something a bit different from cleric, as i want to see what its like to not be a squish bucket, but im not a fan of hand to hand combat...which rules out almost every other classXD

Like i said i dont want my alto to be squishey, so i was thinking like LA or HA veno. But alas, after talking to some venos online they say that AA is the only real way to go....T.T

As far as i read the HA veno is really expensive to do and the LA isn't very popular either. Could anyone give me some advice on a nice DURABLE veno build. I'm really kind of wanting to try out HA veno, as i could totally deal with hand to hand combat if i was a fox while doing it! Lol. Im not looking to be a pvp goddess or anything special, so if i can make a decent HA build, but never be in the top ranks, i would be more than fine with that.
Yeah my sig doesn't match my name...i would say im being all clever and trying to confuse people...but im really just too lazy to make a new one

Unless you have a Love Up and Down tome or similar which you can put on a newbie veno, the heavy build is impractical as a leveling build. That's not to say it won't work - it will. But you will waste so much time and money looking for and buying +stat gear that it will probably suck all the fun out of playing the toon.

The light build is a pretty good compromise at low and mid levels. Arcane doesn't start to outshine it until you start sharding gear up the wazoo, which generally isn't until the 90s, maybe the 80s if you're rich. But you will have to deal with the lower pet heals and general gimpiness overall - being able to both melee and cast means you're a jack of all trades, master of none. If you're not into meleeing, I'm not sure there's much advantage to it.

Since your main is a cleric, you're probably hyper-aware of how aggro works. I'd suggest just starting with a vanilla arcane build. At low and mid levels, the pet is like a cleric's dream tank. It does exactly what you tell it to do. So you should have no problems having it keep aggro off you.

Uhm the pet only does what you tell it to do.... when it on Manual. Sometimes ... they go running off randomly after mobs that respawned in the same spot as one they just killed. Its weird, I think its a glitch, it does'nt happen often but it does. So be wary or running your pet on manual. I always suggest Venos train themselves to run the pet like another, simpler character.

As for the gear-basing. At high levels I see Venos of all three builds that own, and I mean seriously own. But for lower levels I would suggest an arcane build, most of us that are other builds started out as arcane. Or you could be silly like me and mess up. I have been HA/LA since level 17, and its been hard on me. A lot a lot of messing up and feeling like I was behind other Venos my level. Its really not easy to gear an LA/HA Venomancer, especially at lower levels where you don't have access to a lot of the stat-adding goodness of higher end gear. My advice is to ... read the guides in this forum for the builds, and decide for yourself what you want to do. Becuase ultimately, it comes down to how YOU want to play. Each build is different and is played differently.

HA and LA builds r just fine if played right BUT it is some expensive builds. I didn't study LA much, but i can imagin that it got the same problem as HA. The problem is that 5 stat points per lvl won't be enough for u to have equal lvl weapon and armore. I got a 23 veno and i am already unable to equip the HA armor fitting my lvl, while holding a weapon fitting my lvl.

So i would not recommend HA or LA build if it is just to fool around on, and while u try to equip ur cleric =/. We talk stat gear and high lvl tomes.

But if u still wanna be a caster, just a bit stronger than most casters when it comes to taking hits, then maybe u should try a veno vit build. U lose alot of ur already weak mag dmg, ur heal power go down too, but u will hold more hp. Also takign on p.def gear will help ur survival.

That or say **** up to date gear, and either walk around in low lvl HA armor or with a low weapon (compared to ur lvl) on a HA veno (i guess same with LA)

LA has just barely enough stat points for both up to date armor and weapon (1 str 1 dex/level for armor, 3 mag/level for weapon.) It's HA that's always scratching to find -req and +stat gear to be able to equip close to own level weapon and armor.

i'm currently an arcane veno and i find i'm not that squishy since usually the pet takes most of the damage, however the LA build is fun because of the extra critical hits you get eventually with the dex requirements for the armour. :) HA veno is something i'm going to try but doesn't really seem all that practical for the class in theory. anyhow...that's just my opinion.:)

I use the vit/arcane build, the extra vit allows me to socket my gear with mainly garnets, giving me durable p.def in foxform.
I was light armored up till about lvl 75.
Like others before me have said, find out what you're really searching for and use the guides to help you pick. You asked for durable, but you'll want a fast leveller if you're thinking of heavy armor in the later levels. Light armor might be your thing there.

    Good luck deciding. :)
