Air Pet

Hi,
Just took to the air tonight and soon realized the Sky's can be a dangerous place if one is not paying attention.
I quickly tamed a Wasp Hivewarder as it was fairly easy and convenient at the time. I am curious what some of the popular aerial pets people are using?
My land pet is a Glacial. Poor fellow is overworked and underpaid. Was thinking maybe there might be some situations coming up where it would be more practical to use an air based pet on land. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance,
32 Veno

The petite sawfly, foxwings, and the rare piggy are the most popular that I have seen other venos use as their flying pet.
Other than that, the blazing phoenix >.<
For me, I used a sawfly or the skatefish, and then changed it to the foxwing, and then changed it to the fowl. I don't level up my flying pets so that's why I keep switching. For best "free" dps pet, I would stick with the sawfly or the skatefish.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thank you so much ForsakenX for the sig b:cute0 -
i use a skatefish; it's supposedly pretty similar to the sawfly. plus it looks better.
i tend to use the skatefish as a lurer on land mobs whenever it needs leveling up and my other pets don't. works well on flat land, but it runs into silly trouible whenever it must climb a hill. land-based pets can do that; flying pets get stuck in mid-air for no good reason. still, it's better than no lurer, and fairly fast too.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Heaven's Tear alts: KenLubin, Sou_Hon, JudyCaraco --- level 5x chars.0 -
Thanks for the awesome info. Almost forgot about the leveling up part. That alone is good enough reason to use it on land.

Piggy's the best air tank, but you really don't need an air tank.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Before the fishies, the best air pet (besides the phoenix) was the sawfly. It was great for grinding with its high attack and pretty decent at pvp. However, I now hear many people going for a skatefish. Then again, I wouldnt know, I abandoned both my magmite and sawfly in my 60s/70s a year ago.I was early taught to work as well as play,

Sawfly has equal or slightly better stats as a same level skatefish, and a near identical growth chart. Sawfly comes with bash and toxic mist, skatefish comes with lightning bolt, slow and fireball. I think the bash gives the sawfly a slight DPS advantage on most mobs.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

As a hint, I rarely use the Sawfly "on land" as it doesn't follow terrain and tends to get stuck in the ground. I do, however, level it on land monsters by staying in the air myself and just sending it down.
Unless I have air monsters to kill. My fly was very busy today, killed tons of Carrion Vultures, got no fungus at all. Died once, which means I probably didn't even get experience. To bad the fly already had her exp bar filled a long time ago :-( So, full day wasted.
Air pet can also be useful if you're going for land monsters that aren't very Venomancer-friendly. Like in a swamp (although that can cause problems for air pets as well, but at least they won't randomly unsummon, dumping the aggro on you), or when there's simply not enough space to maneuver.
Last but not least, I tend to summon the fly before descending to a "mine", if there's a monster nearby that might walk into aggro range while I'm harvesting.Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng0 -

When you say free pet I'm assuming you mean one I can tame? Do you or anyone else recall the area where these three may be found?
Thank you again for the support.0 -
Before I got a nix, I loved my windwalking piggy. I had an elysium fowl with some nice skill upgrades but I still found the piggy to be a more well rounded air pet. Definitely invest time or coin in getting a windwalking piggy.
If legendary pet boxes do go on sale again, I'd say get a herc first, and if you can then get a nix. You'll never use another air pet again if you have a nix, they have uber DPS and really good defense to boot. I remember grinding on lvl 90+ mobs when my nix was only lvl 60 without a problem, what other pet could do that?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Sawflies (level 8) are by Bamboo Village. Some fly low enough to be tamed without being able to fly.
Skatefish (level 22) are northeast of Raging Tide.
There are various foxwings, ranging from level 34 to 60. The lowest I think are over Hidden Orchid. The highest are all over the place.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Thanks Dreamweaver for all your input. Last night I purchased a level 34 foxwing off the auction house fairly cheap. While I was out and about running some quest I stumbled on the Sawflies and tamed one(level8) like you said. Not sure now if I want to raise the Sawfly to maturity or just go with the Foxwing. What do you suggest?
Thanks again,

I'm Mayfly... Dreamweaver is my server.
On the one hand, the sawfly has the highest attack of any air pet other than the phoenix. On the other hand, there aren't that many air quests, and any pet near your level will work well enough. It's up to you whether you want to take the trouble of leveling up the sawfly (if you are going to PK, I'd recommend leveling it and putting flesh ream on it, until you are able to afford a phoenix.)
If you decide to level it, you can do it fairly quickly on the level 100 stauch worms over White Sands Beach (near Raging Tide), but they give no drops, and virtually no XP to you. Or you can level it the normal way, earning coin and XP by grinding on air and land mobs with it. This takes more time.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Hi Mayfly....I don't even know what server I'm own. When I created my character I don't recall seeing a server choice. Just accepted most of the defaults, less a few minor character customizations.
I've tried PK on other rpg's game gone past and came to find out it's not really my play style in a rpg. Prefer the challenge of getting that boss at the end of a dungeon or instance over PK'ng with uber toon that dropped a 1k dollars on his/her character. I like to leave the PK'ng to a good fps where everyone is on a more equal footing and skill is more involved then size of the wallet.
Looks like I'll just stick with mr. foxwing based on your gracious input.
Thanks again,

Hi, I'm a lvl 66 Veno and my air-pet has always been a Foxwing. I, eventually, graduated to a Foxwing Supreme. Was well worth it. I'm not saying Sawflies aren't good...just never liked their looks. Foxy does pretty good. It is good to have an air-pet when you have beasts that like to stand in 5 inches of water and your land or water pet won't work. Also works well when the beasts are on very steep hillsides.0

Yes, "free pet" means that it can be tamed by normal means. (non-free pets are the Hercules and the Phoenix, which are cash-shop items)
The Petite Sawfly may be found near City of the Plume. It starts at level 8, so you will have to grind it on some low-level mobs for a while.
The Skatefish is found in the Tideborn islands, though I'm not sure exactly where. I think they start at level 22.
Foxwings come in several different varieties, of different levels. The lowest level is the Pinnaer Foxwing, at level 34. I remember that some are found in the eastern part of the Valley of the Hidden Orchid. Just fly east from Heaven's Tear, and you'll see them. They're hanging out with some red and black Pterosaurs.
I don't know where the Windwalking Piggy is, but it's a rare pet, meaning that it only spawns once every 12 hours. You may have to camp at the spawn site if you want a chance to catch it. It may be easier to buy it off of someone else.Director and Webmistress of Faction Tramonto0 -
Skatefish is north-east of Raging Tide. Piggy's by Wellspring; check pwdatabase for exact spawn site.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Hi all. For my low lvl veno I prefer a skatefish for it's nice looking.
But can I tame one from earth like sawfly, or must tame sawfly for tame skatefish? Are there some skatefishes flying rather low?
PS Sorry if some mistakes, english is not my native language. ,,,^o_o^,,,0 -
All the wild skatefish I've seen were high flyers. You won't be able to reach them from the ground, unlike sawflies. You'll have to buy an egg, or wait until you can fly to tame one.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

guys, theres a way to get skatefishes without flying...without an air pet too...if you find one of the mushroom up high and youre able to climb on it climb up it then see if any cloudskates that youre able to hit with with a spell...(warning...high attack so be careful)then try to lower its hp as low as you can they try to live while taming it XD
and wheres the spawn site of the piggy? o.o0 -
