Pulling with Herc?

So, I recently got a Herc for my new Veno and just started doing BHs... I soloed BH29 and practiced pulling a lot and I noticed I better not use the Herc bramble buff or it will pull everything. However, I am now in BH39 and people wanted me to cast the bramble skill before pulling... I told them what happened in BH29, they called me fail and kicked me out of squad... O.o So, I'm here to ask - do I need bramble buff for pulling? Or should I just use a fast runner pet for pulling so I don't have to argue with people about Herc buffs?

You can pull with a Herc just remember not to turn reflect on. You can turn on the hercs defense buffs though to help it survive hits better. The herc is not the fastest pet in game for pulling. But with its high health and defense with buffs on. It can take more hits than any other pet for pulling can.

NEVER put bramble on a pet you're using to lure.

Luring works like this: You send in a pet, it goes into the crowd of mobs, all the mobs do damage to the luring pet, your luring pet survives and does damage to ONE mob, you unsummon your pet. Because only ONE mob has damage done to it by you, it will aggro you (since your pet is gone) and run toward you. Since none of the OTHER mobs had any damage taken to you, they don't see the pet anymore and thus will reset to where they originally stood. If you have bramble on, however, all those other mobs (if they use physical attacks) will also come running after you since damage was dealt to them by you.

Personally I use a snow hare for luring because its cute, fast, and I don't care much about its loyalty. I also don't have to reheal or possibly have to revive my tank pet afterwards, which is very important if I'm soloing things.

YES!!! =D I knew having a snow hare would come in handy!

    However..

I have a question, if you are the one tanking with the Herc, does it matter really which one you choose to lure with?

Lol. Whoever kicked you from squad for not brambling herc before pulling is a noob-and-a-half. They did you a favor.

Yeah, that's kinda bass ackwards of them. Certainly if your herc is tanking then you should be brambling AFTER the lure. But during the lure? Well... in 39 you can get away with it in some places. Magic using mobs won't get reflected, so in a few rooms in there you CAN lure with a brambled herc. But why would you want the added risk for no added gain?

But generally you'd pull out a secondary pet for the luring, anyway.

Now - one possibility - if the squad was some huge level above you - then what they probably wanted was a huge fat pile of mobs all in one go. That's not really 'luring', though some people still call it that. (I've been using the term 'dragging' but it hasn't caught on) And if that IS what they want, then a herc with reflect (and use 'follow me' on manual, instead of unsummoning it) is a pretty good way to fetch them.

Tame beast (and earthflame) luring does indeed work.

It's less flexible (and for tame, slower and mana intensive) than pet luring, but if you're feeling lazy it works fine.

You're level 101 and haven't seen it done intentionally without fail?

When I ran TT solo, I'd often put bramble on my herc then pull. I wanted to pull the whole room because its a herc, and he can deal with it. That way archer monsters won't shoot me and kill me when I'm busy trying to resummon him from a normal pull.

I have him go after the ranged monsters first, that way I don't get heal agro when the whole room goes after me. I keep having him change targets while everything attacks him at once, and it normally goes smoothly.

    At OP.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and assume that they didn't want you to buff your herc with reflect before luring, but instead wanted to you to buff the tank with bramble guard, before he had to catch the boss you were luring. Then when you started arguing a completely different topic they kicked you and used an earthflame lure instead. b:victory

It's a very VERY fast pet, which makes it a great lurer. And very low levelled, too - you can use it way before the eldergolth or kowlin.

As a damage pet or tank, not so good.

i agree with every1 here, who ever told u to put bramble on when luring was a noob. and indeed if it was a high lvl say barb/bm they might have wanted a huge mass. but its safer just to put on strong protect when luring. or just use zeal, tame pet (which i use quite often, i used to solo bh29 for a friend and i used it for trick mobs i wanted to take one vs one. ) or just resummon a different pet to lure that works too, get a kowling at 60 with herc money for 1 isnt hard
