I'm sure Theleas Carr will be here soon enough with SanctumRP which is and RP guild.
And honestly they're the only one I've seen active on the server.

SanctumRP. I've joined recently myself (as in, last night) . It does seem to be the only rp around that I've seen, and rp can be frustrating when you can only type about one sentence of text, but they've a forum as well. They're a bit "dramatic" with their storylines but I guess that's how rp is these days. They're also a very nice group of people, which is a good thing! Give them a look and give a hello to me (Navalli) ingame as I'm always game to rp.

as the people posting before me already stated PWI is a really bad place for roleplay. I figured the following reasons:

- the lore is relatively unknown to most players, usually only a few veterans know parts of it
You can in fact read parts of the lore, which is ancient chinese based, on the PW website. However it is very difficult to easily get more informantion and if you do you will find out the makers of PWI changed things mainly in a way that gives them the most money by addapting to players wishes. Another aspect is that in the game you get a lot of senceless quest descriptions and it is hard to find a red storyline. The only thing I can recall is the long and annoying chrono quest chain lightening up the past of the perfect world, but it all is unspectacular presented wall of text and repeating stupid quests for many days that make you want to skip reading and just go on with it...

- the game is extremely high fantasy, most RP players won't be able to settle down here
The devs don't care if their latest outfit, mount/aero or weapon fits into the rest. They just want bigger, shinier, more expensive and so on. And the players want it too so it's kind of an agreement from both sides.

- the community is rather young and many ppl I spoke with have PW as their first MMO ever
I'm not saying young people never show interest in RP or suck at it. But I am saying first time players unguided by an experienced RP community (such as at wow where there were already exp RP players in a wide scale from older games such as DAofC or Ultima from the start) are very unlikely to develop a sudden interest in RP out of nowhere. Here you will rather find a game that works like highly popular internet sites such as facebook do: Find people, make friends, keep in contact no matter where in the world you life and just have fun with another.
Also there is no acceptance for playing a character. People always speak like they would iRL and ask a lot about what you are doing or tell what they do. To my annoyance many also mistake PWI for a finding your partner agency... anyway if you can motivate yourself to play a role inbetween a bunch of lol'ing leetnamed kids swearing at you as soon as you try to RP - I can not.

- there are not many emotes or ways to interact with others, NPCs or environment
I know it sounds silly but it is very hard to interact with this game. It looks very pretty but so does a world made of paper. The NPCs look all the same and except for Duke Blake (who seems to be the favourite of most ppl) they are not moving or doing anything. You won't find patrolling guards, no one seems to have something better to do but waiting for players 24/7. As for interacting between people it is reduced to sweet hugs but only male can carry female and there is no such thing as a friendship hug. Moreover most emotes look completely stupid and many situations are simply not covered by them. Now would you like to try describing what you do using * at Archosaur? No one would notice between all the chat rushing by... I know it's not the best excuse for not being able to RP because there is some roleplay going on on much simpler games, even browser games, but I believe all the mentioned points together strongly prevent RP from setting a foot into the perfect world.

WoW also has RP specific realms and from what I hear about them (never bothered to roll a toon on one) they take RPing quite seriously. It could probably help PWI expand its RP community by opening a RP dedicated server, but its anyone's guess as to how well that would work.

The fact that PWI charges to use its World Chat probably discourages a lot of RPers too.

even paying for world chat is quite enough spam.. just guess what would happen if it was free..
