A Sharding Question

It has two parts:
A) What do yall pros shard with starting from 70?
B) If it's not sapphires, how come? Don't yall need magic defense cuz magic mobs hit yall really REALLY bad.
---btw I shard my cleric with garnets because physical mobs and physical AOEs (eh-ehhm, TT...) hit her really really hard (or used to, anyways o.~). Do yall see my logic heres? IJS

    Usually most of us would shard citrines. Lets compare G7 shards. Citrines give 40 HP while saphires give 33 mdef. With 3 citrines = 120 HP (base) -> 156 HP buffed. 3 Saphs = 1% increase in mag defense. Lets assume you tank a mag atk of 2k so 3 saphs decrease the damage taken by 20. Which would be better - 20 less dmg taken or 156 hp? b:pleased Remember during the later stages of the game the mdef or general def scales very badly against the damage reduction. Mdef is usually gained by ornaments. Hope this helps b:victory

    Yup.. Cybetron hit the nail on the head...

    If you are going to start sharding around 70, citrine is the way to go combined with mdef ornaments. Not sure how prices are on Sanc, but here on RT you can find flawless citrine pretty cheap these days.

    .....and ofcourse once you reach your chosen end-game gear, shard with primeval's if you are lucky enough to lay your hands on em.

    End-game i've seen people sharding armor with +2 defence level gems on my server, these seem pretty good stacked with Nirvana armors
