Would 4 garnet gems be better than 4 jade of steady defense? J/w, been trying to figure this out for the longest time ;O.

Oh, and would a cleric benefit from a piece of gear slotted with 4 +2 def shards? 8% phy damage reduction sounds nice b:dirty

There's too much to calculate really

how much initial pDEF you have

how much enemy is hitting for

how much % redux you have aside from the jades

generally jades are pretty nice if you've got more % reductions to add onto it

because 8% damage redux ain't that great alone

Actually, I thought the citrine/jade argument was determined by your max hp. Look at your max hp; if citrine gem gives more than 2% of that, use gem, otherwise use jade.

That being said, jade is probably going into end game gear. Citrine gems are only more efffective if your hp never goes above 5750. If it goes higher, (and it better), then use jade of steady defense.

I didn't really look into how much p def you need for jade to be better than garnet gem, but I wouldn't be surprised if jade comes out on top again.

Def gem doesnt have anything to do with your max hp... its 1% less dmg you take for every def lvl, so it matters on what the person is hitting you for, if he hits me for 1000 and I put 10 def +1 gems, he will hit me for 900 instead, thats 10% less dmg... as far as vit stones go, its all about class... I dont the exact numbers, but I tihnk a barb get 20hp per vit = prim stone-200hp, where as cleric get 10hp per vit = prim stone-100hp so a g11 critine would be better with 115hp

Except that the vit stones would also boost your phys/mag def and HP recovery rate as a trade-off for the 15 HP they'd lose to a Citrine gem on a caster.

Of course, with end-game gears that's moot since you'd use refines for HP and Def level shards for damage reduction since jades would affect all incoming damage sources (with the notable exception of Damage over Time attacks), so a simple garnet or sapphire wouldn't be able to match it as well. Especially once you stacked a large number of them.
