Joining or starting a roleplay faction?

Are there any active RP factions left on Dreamweaver? Would anyone be willing to turn their faction over to a new leader for such a purpose? Is anyone interested in joining an all-new roleplay faction?

I just created an alt on Dreamweaver with the intention of joining one of the 3 or so RP factions, but it looks as if they've all died. :( if you're interested please drop me a message here or in game (Queen_Natla).

Cheers,
Jacqueline Natla,
Goddess, Former Queen of Atlantis

I remember in my first days of PWI, on Sanctuary server, I got my first faction invite from a very nice guy (don't ask me his name or the faction, who remembers that after a year and a half and only about 3 days in the faction??). All of a sudden, in faction chat, people were addressing the leader as "My Queen" and talking all weird and I was like WTF? Someone explained to me that they were a roleplaying faction. Uhhh... what? Isn't PWI ALREADY an MMORPG? Awhile later I asked a game-related question in faction chat and was told to take it private, that faction chat was for RP only.... umm.. okay, weirdos, thanks, I'll find a new faction that actually wants to play the game rather than talk all fruity and act weird. Have fun, kiddies, this grown up isn't into silly things like that, and, thankfully, none of the other factions I've been in are into that, either b:laugh

Excuse me for offending you. As a professional writer, actual written roleplaying is an important part of the game for me. There's really no need to insult something that you don't care for, though.

Roleplaying is not a 'kiddie' thing, it is a technique and style of writing. When you read the newspaper, or read an article about how to lose weight, that is a certain style of writing. Roleplaying means you take on the personality of a fictional character (in MMORPGs, usually one that you create), and you show that through your actions in-game or in the chat, where appropriate.

There are many online internet games that cater to the roleplaying gamers, and calling everyone who roleplays a 'kiddie' is potentially insulting anyone that writes at all on the internet. There are different levels of roleplaying writing...some people know how to create a mature environment for it, others are slighlty less mindful and, indeed, do a lesser form of 'childish roleplaying'. However, the roleplaying Queen_Natla is talking about I suspect is probably the former, not the latter.

Also, an MMORPG is an RPG by definition, but that isn't the kind of roleplaying Queen_Natla is referring to either. (Not that I suspect at least). Running around with a character in a game killing mobs, leveling up, getting weapons, and finishing quests isn't the creative writing type of roleplaying. The roleplaying we're talking about involves using writing to express emotions/actions/and thoughts about your character's personality, life, relationships, and everyday events. You can grind through the game killing monsters and finishing every quest to level 100 without ever roleplaying in the sense of creative writing.

Justed wanted to say there is a difference between 'roleplaying a character and grinding to level 100' and 'roleplaying a character using creative writing'. Are there 'kiddie' kinds of roleplaying? Yes. Does that make the entire world of roleplaying a 'kiddie' thing? That would be a poor reason to say yes.

Well spoken. I was looking for people to do the creative writing with in-game, but since there seem to be no RP factions left in DW, I moved to Sanctuary. :)

Well, if may say so myself, I did once write a short... ummm... in-game roleplay in-character sort of article. Wasn't much response to it. However, I do appreciate an idea. Sounds fun. I'll try to spread fun around. :)

Oh jeez, I call lots of people "kiddies" and I didn't mean to offend. I'm an old lady, most of you are kiddies to me. And from the little bit of RP I've seen in PWI, it was childish and seemingly pointless. I don't generally go looking for people to offend and if I've done it here, I owe you an apology. To people who aren't "into" that kind of thing in any form, it seems really kind of weird, okay? I would rather be my real self than pretend to be some fictional character regardless of "writing style" or whatever. And I think the majority of people out there would rather see the real person behind the character than someone making more out of the game than there really is.

There are perhaps other games better suited to this type of thing. A creative writer could find much better outlets than PWI to express themselves in an intelligent manner. I think it would go largely unappreciated here, that's all. I'm fairly well-known to be a forum... lady of the night? I assume any other word I would use would be censored out b:laugh It is a form of creative writing at times and a way to express myself without flooding faction chat with a bunch of blahblahblah nonsense.

Anyway, I hope you find what you're looking for and get some pleasure out of it. I did not intend to deny you that. I was merely expressing my own opinion in that RP can be seen as childish and silly in some ways and is not usually the way of more hard-core gamers I have met. My one encounter with that one RP faction has been my only one since starting PWI over a year and a half ago. Also, I used to RP myself in Vampire: The Masquerade, many, many moons ago. I in no way meant to imply that ALL RP'ers are kids or stupid or childish - that's just all I've come across in PWI.

    Good luck to you.

I would be interested in joining one. I've been off server for awhile due to some stuff that went down IRL but I'm going to get back on. If you're still interested in one just hit me up with what server you want to be on. b:pleased

I do have to agree roleplaying here in PWI doesn't seem as active or popular compared to other games, and there definitely are much better places one could go to participate in that kind of stuff other than PWI. ^^

PWI community is pretty friendly though, and so that's good enough for me. =)

RP cam be really fun. I use to do S20 a LOT (For all who do not know what s20 is its a fight stlye.) on chatrooms and other kinds. But I probly will not talk about the other kinds of RP that I do. But I love to write my self. I do alot in english. Im working on a book to be true. And I find RP to be fun in away. Cus you kind of have to think about what you want "Your" person to belike. So you kind of have to really think about it alot. And in away RP in a mmorpg kind of gives the game a story in some ways. So it makes it more fun if you like to read and stuff. But then there are people who just rather play the game... What gets boring some times Like I am right now stuck on my 2ed alt... But anyways just wanted to point that out. And sorry for my fail spelling, kind of putting this down really fast. Lawl.

I joined SanctumRP on Sanctuary, since it seemed to be the only active RP guild on PWI.

I'm also starting a Red Cliff/HOTK RP forum/guild once the closed beta comes out. Get a head start on things. :)
