Protection from Hackers...?

Hellooooo all.

I hear all the time about accounts getting **** into, their gear and everything stolen, blah blah blah, and I'm scared to death of it. (And no, I don't even have good gear, but eventually I will.)

I was just wondering (1.) What are ways an account can get ****, and (2.) how do I protect myself from all these ways? Also, if I protect myself from all these ways, is there a guarantee I won't get **** or is it always still possible?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    You won't get **** if:
    (1) You don't tell people your info;
    (2) You don't tell people your info; and
    (3) You don't tell people your info.

Also it's good if you put up a code to your bank and place your valuables there.
I call it how I see it.

Nine out of ten people who say they got **** gave out their log-in information to the wrong person. As Sacred said, just keep your info to yourself.

This, plus keyloggers may be on your computer and is the other main reason why some people get ****. Keep your anti-spyware program up-to-date and run regular checks.

Also, a little FYI: In every case I've heard of, if you do get **** and you contact a GM over it, you won't get the stuff back that you lost.

    Rule of thumb:

    * Never trust anyone with your log-in info (including PWI itself aka fake GM's etc.)
    * Keep your PC gear in good working order. Within Windows anti-virus/anti-malware with a working firewall can create a layered protection. Update windows to patch-up known exploits. No system is 100% protected EVER, thinking so is just being clueless.
    * Never trust websites with free zhen offers if they are not endorsed by PWI itself.
I speak for myself. My opinions are my own.
Assuming I speak for others is therefor void.

to protect you from keyloggers you may notice a nifty on screen keyboard pops up when you enter your password to log into the game .. click on this to enter your password and keyloggers have nothing to log...

Here's another POI, never respond to phishing emails that "look" weird, or go to a different address other than "perfectworld.com". e.g. perfectworldinternational.com, or, accoutadmin-perfectworld.com. Stuff like that :P

This, plus keyloggers may be on your computer and is the other main reason why some people get ****. Keep your anti-spyware program up-to-date and run regular checks.

If there is a keylogger on your system, you have far more important things to worry about than a silly video game.

Anyone that would go through the trouble of installing a keylogger, monitoring a trojan or sniffing your IP packs wouldn't remotely be interested in your pixels on a video game. They're interested in paypal, ebay, financial accounts and access to them, NOT PWI. A keylogger would most likely (but not necessarily) mean someone with direct physical access to your computer is spying or monitoring you.

Again, very little to worry about PWI concerning greater issues of security.

Do not EVER give out your account name and password. There is no way that someone can log into your PWI account without these. They are not related or tied into your screen name on the forum or to your character name, and if you made them like that, next time, don't.
I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.

Sometimes hacks are hard to prevent and sometimes the damage it tough to deal with.

I was **** once and I lost all my gear, my mount, everything in my banks on all my chars. I think after i totaled it all up i lost about 35-50mil in stuff.

I found out who the hacker was a few days later after he had been harassing me in whipers and that person was banned for a day, then unbanned the next day and when I found out I pretty much went off in WC demanding justice.

Later on that day I got in sorted witha GM and I got my mount back and some mats there were on my banks and called it fair. I couldn't get anything else back considering he had sold it all and got other stuff with it.

But yea. Hacking can be bad..you just got to be careful about it. No way under any circumstances give out your info to anyone, even your closest friends in game cause remember friends come and go and you never know what'll happen if they have it.

Having been an in-game GM for a while, I can verify that every single "****" case I worked on was caused by the victim giving his/her login info to someone else, whether it happened in-game or through a phishing site.

The phishing site might not be that obvious - it could be a PWI related web site that requires a login and the webmaster can see the password...

I'll just send this into overkill and repeat what everyone else says:

Don't give out your information. EVER! Remember, PWE will never ask for your info, and no one else should ever have it. Use password which do that contain dates, names, numbers of significance. Best way to get a password is to make up some crazy sentence in your head, take the first letter of each one and combine them to make your password. For example:

The big blue Assassin stabbed and stabbed the stupid Cleric 89 times. This then becomes TbbAsastsC89t. Difficult for someone to figure out, but easy for you to remember.

WARNING! Do not use this password, or if it is your password, change it now, I just gave it away. b:laugh

Anyways, just as another safe bet, put the safety lock on your bank with a pin so that if you do get ****, anything in your bank or that is equipped cannot be taken out without the pin.

Oh really? How many 105's are there? Oh that's right, none.

You must not realize (or remember) how much EXP is needed to even get to level 105. Getting from level 101 to level 102 is already 200m EXP. With that said, before you even hit level 105, you'd be bored of the game and have re-quit already.

    Edit: Unless you're a GM.
