Where can I find/buy Hay and train low level pets?

A quest was given near the start of the game to increase a pet slot. I am lvl 26 now but still haven't found any Hay (need 20). I suppose I'll need at least one pet for land, water and air so 3 slots should be minimum. A little help please.

Also I guess I'll have some trouble in training petite saw fly (lvl 8) because low lvl monsters arent giving pet experience and saw fly is not surviving attacks of monsters around my level. Or would you suggest another air pet?

Which water pet would you suggest?

As for air pets, wait until lv. 22 for a Cloud Skatefish. I personally prefer it over the Sawfly because of its looks but if you're sticking with the Sawfly, go to the tideborn area. Outside the City of Raging Tides, there are [?] (or lv. 100) mobs with 100 HP and with a flying mount, you'll be able to level fast.

Although you'll be needing a flying mount for it which doesn't come to venos until lv. 30. Most (or all) of the air quests don't start until the lv. 30s anyways so don't worry about using the sawfly.

Water pets are replaceable. Just tame whatever water pet that's in your level range until lv. 80 or 85 when you can get the Celestial or Asgard Plumpfish.

    Hope that helps.

    Hay.

Your sawfly should be getting max XP per kill (15) if it's loyal (loyalty 501+) and you're killing mobs its level or higher.

The monsters listed in Hay page given in the above post are not dropping hay. I've wasted a lot of time on the level 8 turtle.

    Help!

Level 8 turtles have the lowest drop rate of anything that drops hay, plus you're 20 levels over them, which decreases the drop rate. You're better off going to Silver Poll and working on the antelope pups at level 28 (assuming your avatar is reasonably current.)

Ok. Thanx. Will try that. I was actually trying to quickly train a low level pet while I was at it.

But doesn't the drop rate increase when I kill monsters 13 level above me? I killed a bunch of level 42 monsters at level 29 but didn't get much from them so I went back to normal adventuring. It was taking more time and giving even less gold.

I'm not sure if it will still work at your level, but I recommend the Rhinodrakes outside of West archosaur. They don't drop too often like the Abyssal, but it might drop more due to your level but idk.

    Good luck hay grinding ^^

Edit: Rhinodrakes are in the 20's, so you should be O.K with drop rate.

To get hay, go to Silver Pool and kill antelopes there. That's the best hay farm spot.

3 days have passed and I got only 9 Hay from Antilop Pups. Terrible drop rate. A quest given at level 7 shouldn't be that hard at level 30. I got so frustrated that I lost interest and actually died of boredom twice loosing xp I gained from killing these pups.

Is there really no better monster to get it from?

Antelope is the easiest to kill with high chance to drop hay . .
And seriously you killing them for 72 hour (3 days) and only get 9 hay ?
WOW b:shocked i am speechless . . because i have hundred after a few day.

That quest is not a must to do, that's why.
Later on you will get many quest that so hard to do even after you 20+ lv higher . .

that does seem like an awfully low drop rate for hay from antelopes, but i'm not calling anything impossible. i've just started killing chislers (seaview and giant) for fruit; i'm more than 10 levels lower than them, and they're dropping NOTHING so far. very frustrating.

but the mechrabs are very cute, around angler's village. will have to get me one, some day when i can tame them and have space.

I was grinding for hay this morning, and they seemed to drop with a 10% rate or so, which is what a database said. I had spurts of one or two pups dropping at a time and then a lot of nothing in between. One even dropped three. If your avatar is current, then you just have to be patient (I'm the exact same level). It took me about 3 hours to get all 20, but I'm cheap and meditated a lot to recover MP. If you're really frustrated, you can always buy the last few that you need, but they're insanely overpriced from what I've seen.

Edit: Opps, I thought Verminatrix is the OP. >_<

    Verminatrix IS the OP.

I wasted another full hour at the Antelope Pup but not a SINGLE hay drop.

Killed a few Kun Kun when got bored. A level 100 monster with 100 HP, immune to all but physical and no XP or drops. Whats it about?

He's a quest. Allegedly he stole (and ate?) someone's shoes of invulnerability. He REALLY annoys mages :)

As for the hay - sorry, but I think it's just bad luck. PWIs randomness seems very... bursty, for want of a better word. I got none for hours also, and then suddenly three dropped in a row.

One in ten is about right as the average, but you'll have to kill a couple hundred to actually GET that average.

Mantou quest, it made to make newbie scarred because it was lv 100 mob.
Btw not immune to physical but immune to magic.

Its bursty alright. I gave up on Hay and went to kill 40 Rhinodrake Megalith for DG. First 5 RMs dropped 3 HAYS and then last 35 dropped NONE!

Still short of 8 Hays. Too expensive to buy. I am NOT getting Phoenix, thats for SURE!

I've found that the rhinos outside Archosaur's west gate have a reasonable hay drop. I got my 20 hays for my higher lvl veno like that, and it was not that horrible.

Whilst not particularly germane to the discussion - the nix will eat any of the 'hay' foods, not just hay itself. And some of the hay foods drop a heck of a lot more often (and from higher level mobs) than hay does.

Try Abyssal Mystery. Its a lv34 blue fish in the river south of Arch. I always had no problems getting hay from those and used them to help farm hay for a couple of lower level venos in my faction.

64 veno? Sorry, you outleveled everything that drops hay. Highest is the Abyssal Mystery (level 34) which also has best drop rate.
