How do you feed a pet?

I cant figure it out. Trainer gave Pure Water but I don't know how to use it.

    When the pet is active, just use it like a potion. You can also drag it onto a hotkey bar, like a potion. I just hit "the key" when the pet icon turns green; it's still a slight waste of water, but an easy rule.
